amazing video and brilliant phone holder bro, can I ask what this phone holder brand is or else if you could share link of that would be awesome please?
Why do all reviewers forget to talk about the front facing camera? It is important. I guess because it continues to not be good, no one wants to talk about lol😂
Great video! Can you share the products/links to your setup for recording on iPhone? The rig, hard drive , mic, tripod, etc. Everything seen at the 12:20 mark of the video.
native iPhone camera uses 422 HQ...not 4444, secondly, Apple's LUT is to transform from Rec2020/Apple Log to either Linear Color or Rec709, it is not supposed to make your image "look good", its meant to transform it from one color space to the other, purely technical, not creative. They published a white paper, where they outlined exactly what Apple Log is and is not. Lastly, the correct way to use this footage is to use Color Management, it is more accurate than using a LUT. Davinci Resolve already has this built in. You can also use BM Camera Display LUT to add Apple's LUT There are three stages of Color work 1. Transform from the color space of the camera into another color space either an intermediate or delivery format like rec709 (This is where you use Davinci Resolve or other color grading software) 2. Correct any errors in the footage like exposure or white balance, etc (Also in Davinci) 3. Then you can apply a creative look on top of the correct image. (This is where you would use a LUT)
I actually upgraded my phone from the XS Max to the 15 Pro Max. Mainly because the iOS will eventually be out of date where I can't update to the newest software anymore. I absolutely love my new phone. I'm gonna make it last as long as I can.
I'm always amazed at how Apple can innovate in some ways, while simultaneously crippling their ecosystem in tons of other ways. I have lost SO MANY clips just because of how unreliable they are in even slightly moderate heat. Also worst file management system of any phone out there. On virtually any android system you can just copy footage as if it were a hard drive. Apple makes it take tons of extra steps even if you are just copying to an SSD. It also fails constantly if you are not on mac. (Sometimes even if you are). Using iPhones has caused kore headaches in my data management process than any other phone I have ever used. But the camera quality is undeniably good. The log footage on the 15pro cameras has blown me away. Absolutely stunning for a phot camera.
Great video, i think they can be better if the background score is reduced when the voice over is on. Voice over is not very audible with the loud background music.
OK, I have only tried shooting in 422 ProRes HLG, and with a Samsung T7 SSD 4TB drive, I get occasional stuttering, or dropping of frames on playback in some recordings, and not on others. What am I doing wrong or is my 15PM 1TB a lemon? Any ideas welcome.
Great video man. I actually found the Lightroom mobile was able to give me a really natural looking color grade on the LOG footage. Would not be a feasible option for a ton of clips but if you shoot something and want make it look nice immediately to share - it was actually impressive.
I tried that option too. But i couldn't get LUT support to work but i got it to work with some presets. just needed to make a few changes to the presets to get the contrast and saturation back.
@@bwashmedia Yeah, should have clarified that I didn't use LUTS - that would have been amazing - but a preset at about 50% plus adjusting the exposure/contrast, and I was able to make the footage look very natural and balanced. Again - don't see it as a end-all solution - or even for large amounts of footage - but for a few clips here and there - it can work.
Dunno but all graded Log footage gets this reddish tone to it, magenta touch, no matter which YT video I watch. Is that a new...look? Don't like it really.. I've tried to use iPhone as a web camera and the only way to avoid this was to apply Ecamm Live's camera editing features.
I'm quite surprised that Apple is still new to USB-C cable. Several other phone brands like Samsung, already has it for so many years now. Another one, Is it really necessary to use screen protection and a case for the iPhone 15?, with all of its advertised protection?. Lastly, the iPhone 15 Pro Max almost cost roughly around $1199, i mean, what are the major upgrades?. What's the main point and purpose to switch from iPhone 14 Pro Max to iPhone 15 Pro Max?. Or what's the major difference between iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro Max?. Besides the Titanium feature. ❤. 💀
Great video but I looked at the Video Description and couldn’t see the current mobile filmmaker setup you show on the video. Can you provide which products you are using? Thanks
Nice vid Brandon but man, the fully rigged up iPhone just looks kinda dumb. That's the whole point of phone video, that you whip it out of your pocket and start filming. I don't even like rigging my mirrorless cameras never mind my iPhone.
Great video! You mentioned the HDMI clean feed in the blackmagic app, but I can't get it to work on the iphone 15 pro. I think it's not working at the moment. Works in filmic pro just fine. Can you run a test and see if it's working for you? Thanks!
@@bwashmedia Thanks for the update. You had a good suggestion to keep uninstalling and reinstalling, but so far haven't had it working at all. Working perfectly in filmic pro, but clearly a bug blackmagic needs to fix. The sound is always outputting over hdmi, but no picture.
It looked like you had an external drive AND a microphone hooked up at the same time. How'd you do that? Most people putting up videos say you can't seem to do both at once...
The mic is hooked through a rode wireless tx. He’s recording audio externally through the rode wireless mics. Using the rode microphone to 3.5mm jack to the TX. So instead of using a lav mic you can use that mic
STOP calling the %x Camera Lens a zoom lens. It is NOT a Zoom lens. It is a TELEPHOTO lens. It should be called a 5X TELEPHOTO lens If you use zoom it is a digital zoom and loss of resolution. .

The Black Magic app supports luts. You can either add before or after your footage. It has a tab where you import the luts then it will stay within the app.
I did have a minor issue when using the Blackmagic app but wasn’t sure what the issue was but it did stop rolling. I’m hoping to see a black magic app update soon then I’ll do an update video.
Nice review as always, is the lens flare or glare issue any better, the flare at night with night time video from nearby street lights is more than the samsung phone, anybody else notice this issue.
I'm a strong Samsung but a friend of mine likes the Google Pix. The thing is you can do so mich more with the phone and of course, the camera. Like I said I love your work and been following for a while so I see what good work looks like but the iPhone e is no match for an android
This is my first video of yours I have watched, nicely done and thank you. What I am struggling with is given that, iPhones, iPads, Apple monitors, TVs can all show HDR, thus you can edit in an HDR workflow, why one would spend all this energy getting a phone or camera that can record so much better only to downgrade to crappy Rec.709. This is all the more mind blowing when RUclips and Vimeo can stream HDR content. I'm hobbyist, rubbish at that but love this hobby.
For me HDR is only great if the screen you are playing it back on is HDR. Most people still don’t have HDR screens so it’s hard for me to go all in on HDR. But soon I thinks HDR will be the standard.
Hi new sub here, I'm glad I found your channel, thanks for all of your coverage on the iphone 15 Pro Max. How is the macro performance? As far as I can tell, no creators have a video on anything in regard to macro photography. I'm switching from Android to iPhone and one thing I can't stand on my note 20 ultra is the macro performance. I use my phones quite a bit to document small things like serial numbers and listed specifications on devices, I wonder how the iPhone handels the small stuff.
The telephoto isn’t going to give you it because the minumum focus distance is longer (just physics and optics) but the RAW photos have incredible sharpness with each lens, and the ultrawide has great close up performance.
Great video - thanks. What is the hand held device you are using e.g. at 7.15 which clips to the iPhone for better “camera like” ergonomics (looks like it has an S on the back …it looks great ….do you have a link?….many thanks - Peter
Nice review, but why do so any of you reviewers keep referring to "X" in relation to a lens? It stands for TIMES - like in a multiplication. It is in fact 5 times magnification as opposed to 1 times, as in the standard lens. It's getting to be as annoying as the term "Cinematic"...🙂
