I upgraded from the 13 Pro Max to the 16 pro max because I got hacked. What huge difference USB Type c makes. So much easier to get video and pictures off my phone now.
After watching about 50 videos on the iPhone 16 you are the only person who has discovered the same frustration of trying to put a clamp/grip on this new iphone 16. Its so frustrating as like you said triggers the camera button that we did not need. How much you want to bet they will remove this for the 17. What clamp are you using at 5:58 min mark? Does it do the job? Cheers and a new subscriber.
Guys i'm trying to use my iphone 16 pro to film behind the scenes for an in-studio photoshoot... i'd like to utilize the slow motion too... The day is approaching fast. any advice to keep the quality when it comes to uploading video to a website??
Think I'm going to stay with my 15Pro. PetaPixel did a test in video with the new ultra wide angle sensor on the 16Pro. At 400% compared to the 15Pro there was no major difference. Hope we get that bigger main sensor next year.
Answers to your questions. 1: The 13 mm and 120 mm cameras sensors aren’t fast enough for 120 fps. 2: They will not allow you to slow down 60 fps to 24 fps as it will look like crap as the numbers are too far from adding up.
Thank makes sense but when I shoot at 60 frames per second on any other camera and then want to slow it down for a 24 frames per second timeline. I just do a 40% slow down and it looks great.
Already disabled the camera control button. It gets in the way more than it helps. You can disable the button. However, even with it disabled, when you have apps open, if you have a clamp pressing the button, it will not let you close those apps, including camera app.
yes, big difference. it has Pro res and LOG footage capacities, significantly faster, and longer battery life. i definitely would consider upgrading. plus the other camera focal lengths (12mm, 85mm, etc.) are so much better, especially in lowlight!
I had a feeling the shutter button would mess up grips but I think a quick solution will be to switch to Magsafe style grips that don't need to clamp the sides.
I’ve shot web series on my iPhones, starting with a 7, and no one has complained about quality. There is very little reason to use anything else for videography.
Just bought iPhone 16 pro … immediately I see issue with video .. when moving from 0.5 ultra wide to 1X the video lens immediately switches with a very very noticeable.. I have seen several other iPhones including my old 11, wife’s 14 … also some friends’ iPhones 15 pro models … none of them have any flickering shift of 0.5 video when zoomed into regular 1X … this is simply so frustrating and unacceptable… I am totally perplexed… pls help if anyone else have experienced this or knows a solution … thanks so much in advance !!
videos like this make me question my whole career in videography and just make me anxious and depressed. Last week I got called out by a client for using my camera and not the new tech on his mind, the iphone. after a while in the reunion he pointed out that he has a cinematography camera on his pocket and ive never heard from him again. Clients on this lowbudget area im still in belive they can do it themselves and then never bother to do it. ive had a rough time saving up to 11k for a fullframe camera rig ( yes I need low light capabilities for me in ortder to get more jobs as in a nightlife is the company I work for the most) but then im just wondering If I was just being a clown for actually buying all this gear and making all this sacrifices to be able to have more capabilities. ive been stuck for 2 months now thinking if I should continue or quit this as anyone with a granny phone believes that they can make it themselves and that makes them never contract anyone. I already lost an oportunity to record some footage for a big company commercial and my next opportunity would be on November. what should I do? should I change my 2018 samsung phone and get this granny phone or should I get the rig of my dreams but be obsolete in a few years by a phone?
good luck shooting a live event with a phone especially in lower light. Phone cameras are pretty good at getting fast footage for fast posting but real cameras give you control. The issue you may be facing is being a one man show who deals with low budget shoots. I work in event marketing with huge brands and big budgets. When they hire a camera guy, they dont hire one guy. They hire a guy who has a team even though I can give them the same result all by myself. They want a team where one guy does only photography, one guy runs the gimbal with a Sony FX3 on it, one guy directs and looks at a monitor and maybe one guy doing audio. They will spend more money on that than on one guy who can do it cheaper. You are probably dealing with people who have a phone and dont want to spend any money but cant quite do a good job on their own with their phone. I wouldn't deal with these clueless brokies. Id go squeeze my way into marketing agencies who have real budgets and real clients. Then Id have a team so that I dont have to worry about being the only person juggling everything. Its perspective at teh end. They think the team is better instead of some one guy who is cheaper. They have the money and it's more important to them that thier big client gets nice result than to cut budget corners. When you deal with big brand clients, nothing can go wrong. No excuses or the agency loses the client and millions in revenue each year. The one day projects cost half a million to put together.
@ThatGuyOverThereWeird im the co-owner of a branding company. We are small, and we only get clients when I search for the hard. The area im in charge of is social media and commercials. I hire complete crews ( casa productoras[i dont know the translation])for these short commercials, but the budget will most of the time not be enough, so because i studied cinematography, I help with doing all chores needed to fill positions to make it all possible. We do all this, but we are still very small and barely make it through each months payments. That's why I do videography side jobs outside the company. I want the now memed fx3 to be able to take on night events and maybe become a b camera for our own events. But at the end its all too risky
Either you quit your job or get better at selling clients on the services you provide. Either you’re above that client who wants things done with an iPhone or you adapt to what some people might want and get that money.
I hear you, and I’ve been there too. Focusing on client deliverables is key, and in today’s market, where most content is for web and social, high-quality imagery often underperforms in short form. I recently had a shoot with terrible lighting, but the iPhone saved the day, and the client was thrilled with the results. Maybe consider a stepping stone camera-I built most of my career off an A7III and a Mavic 2 Pro. For a long-term career in videography, you’ll need to specialize-whether it’s social media, weddings, commercials, films, etc.
Ya the camera button wasn't very well thought out for it's use case. It's not useful and it needs to be disabled if your'e gonna use it with a case and other accessories. And not being able to shoot 4k120 in ultra wide is a pretty big disappointment.
Duuude You're in Houston? 😂 Just started following you and found this out. I shoot for years and also train out here. (Jiu jitsu, capoeira & breakin) Been in Houston for 4 years now. 😎🍻
Stop calling the iPhone not a “real” camera. It’s a tool that happens to have a capable camera. A true artist will see this and nothing less and say “let’s create” because It’s a canvas that does things conveniently for the user work. This is as real as anything else without the housing of a “ traditional camera”. We are approaching new horizons when it comes to cinematography due to this “camera” that happens to be a phone as well. In 2024: this is what a cinema camera needs at its core. 1. 4k resolution and above. 2. Intraframe encoding [RAW & RGB]. 3. High dynamic range. [Must record logarithmic. 4. Wide color gamut. From 10bit [1 Billion colors]. 5. Removable lenses. This is a camera if those would weld it as such. If you see it as an investment, you can added a lens and have depth control. You can grade it with an industry suited codec. If anything, this will be the future of film making. The technology alone for it is its biggest advantage. I would even take the claim further and say that this challenges us as filmmakers to be greater. If you can make amazing work on a phone, you can do this with any camera. Fundamentals don’t change in this art form. Just effort and technique. And while I’m on that point, they are opportunities even for you to improve with your color conversion because this is not a good example of log nor color potential. Your mid tones and high tones are shattered here. Darkness doesn’t equal to depth in color. It’s the dance between light and darkness that makes such depth we call in 2024 “ cinematic” . That alone is not Enough ingredients that will be needed to call a piece in its totality, cinematic. It’s an art form, not just a “look”.
The mics are better, the audio mix is sick. Better battery. All the camera improvements, better heat dissipation. Apple intelligence later is just the icing on the cake. Def worth an upgrade.
4K120 and better wide angle is a must for me so upgrading from my 14pro
From a 14 I can definitely see that as an upgrade.
I upgraded from the 13 Pro Max to the 16 pro max because I got hacked. What huge difference USB Type c makes. So much easier to get video and pictures off my phone now.
Dang the clamp example is so spot on. I’m glad I took mine back and bought a camera
I use the DJI mobile 6; do you think the magnetic clamp might be a problem?
Stumbled across your video. I like your energy and how you talk! Good video

If I'm primarily focused on the camera, which variant is better: the iPhone 16 Pro or the 16 Pro Max?
Think I'm going to stay with my 15Pro. PetaPixel did a test in video with the new ultra wide angle sensor on the 16Pro. At 400% compared to the 15Pro there was no major difference. Hope we get that bigger main sensor next year.
@magic2253711
What would you suggest for a 13pro max owner; worth the upgrade to 16pro? 🤔
You can tell a world of difference between using the wide angle and the 24mm (48mp) lens on the 15 pro though. At least, that’s what i’ve found.
I never had a iphone, and I'm interested in purchasing the 16 pro max strictly for video.
quick question, HDR on or off for video?

Now I wonder if my Beast Grip will work on the 16 Pro or Max?
Absolute master of a video! Thank you so much!

Yup exact same experience. I hope they can fix this with an update.
I make films as well I have 13pro is it a good idea for myself to upgrade to 16pro?big differences? Thanks! Great video

@@iamcharleskrause i made the leap and got it! Phone is great. Thanks for the advice
How much memory do you guys recommend for ProRes Log shooting mainly 4k 24fps? Or are you all going with 256 gb and using external SSD?
Great Video!
I bet if you put a little ledge on the top edge your mag grip, it wouldn't slide down
🔥🔥🔥🔥
You can't use tele nor super wide lenses for 120fps because the main sensor is only Sony stacked CMOS image sensor.
I had a feeling the shutter button would mess up grips but I think a quick solution will be to switch to Magsafe style grips that don't need to clamp the sides.
where is the link for the iPhone grip?
Is this an iPhone pro or Pro Max?
I was using a pro
they only added the faster sensor readout on the main sensor...that is why you can only shoot 120fps on the main sensor.
To shoot in log you said you'd need a seperate hard drive. What if I bought the 1tb iphone 16 pro max??
If you want to shoot at 4k at 60fps or 120fps in pro res log you have to use an external harddrive
What about studio mics 😮

I had the same issue and Apple gave me a replacement
Can you record 4k 120 at cinematic mode? Or it s just for prores or normal video?
Nope only in “ProRes, video, and slow motion” modes.
I'm not upgrading. I would have if the sensor would have been larger in the 16 pro.
HDR on or off for video
Did you use the blackmagic app or the 16 pro native app?
Mostly the native app as it’s the app used most of the time.
@@bwashmedia Thanks for the reply, I appreciate you Champ!!!
