I tested video with the ultrawide a good amount in lowlight and the 16 Pro definitely didn't look any better than the 15 Pro. I was pleasantly surprised when I tested in full light though, as the ultrawide is a noticeable jump in detail.

Without any additional lenses attached. I do love the film quality of he 15 pro max. I have yet to try a lot of video on the 16 pro max since I just got it last Friday.

I am starting to get curious now. Which blockbusters are recorded with an iPhone? And if a film maker decided to make a cinema movie with the iPhone, was that because it was the best camera available or did some sponsor money from Apple made that possible?
Oscar winning director Steven Soderberg filmed "Unsane" on an iphone (starring Claire Foy). Sean Baker filmed "Tangerine" on an iphone (on netflix). That's off the top of my head, i'm sure there are tons more. Also, "Searching for Sugar Man" was the first movie partly shot with an iPhone to win an Oscar. PS just read an article from 2019 about Soderberg begging Apple to improve the dynamic range of the iphone camera...I guess they listened.
@@CatacombMan Just looked it up and "unsane" is a movie with a budget of only 1.5 million and "Tangerine" is a movie that had a budget far less then that with only 100k. 1.5 million is less than a lot of TV shows per episode. Breaking Bad had 3 million budget per episode. Using an iPhone is not a typical way to film cinema movies. Also, when you look up the movie "unsane" on RUclips, most of the video's that you see are about the iPhone used and not about the movie itself, which shows what a rare exception this movie is. I understand that an iPhone 16 Pro is something else then an iPhone 7 but still, it is not the typical camera that blockbusters are filmed on. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to say that an iPhone is a bad device. I ordered one myself, but even I would not record something serious on an iPhone probably.
Its likely Apple sponsored films if it was shot on an iphone. There are many reasons why Hollywood uses expensive cinema cameras because of image quality, choices of lenses and dynamic range.
If monetization is important to you, keep on mind that there are a lot of influencers on social media who make a full time living with an iPhone. The production value is terrible, but they still manage to get rich and famous.

@@whoismatt Thanks for reply 😃....gud to know 👍🏻.... considering investing in Iphone 16 pro 🤩....do you have the DJI Osmo Mobile gimbal ?? Want to know if it works with Iphone 16 pro.
One thing no one’s talking about is the fact that a camera is generally one of the cheapest line items on a movie. When you factor in lights, talent, crew, locations, post production, etc, renting a Red or Arri isn’t a big deal. Another thing no one’s talking about is the physical limitations of shooting on a phone. This also applies to dslrs and smaller cinema cameras. The handheld look of a big, heavy camera is much more pleasing than the jittery look of a lightweight device that shakes violently every time the operator’s heart beats. The difference with a lightweight cinema camera is that you can easily rig it to be heavier. Not nearly as easy with an iPhone. That brings me to my last point: rigging. It is SUCH a pain in the ass to properly rig an iPhone. It’s great that you can just pick it up and go, but once you add in wireless monitoring, external media, additional on-camera monitor, wireless audio feed, etc, it quickly becomes an unwieldy monster. I like the idea of an iPhone as a crash or dash cam, and it is cool that you can get good enough quality to shoot a whole movie with it. My worry is that producers will see videos like this and think “Oh wow! iPhones are so easy to shoot with” only for the camera crew to suffer (totally not speaking from experience here… 😏)
If you add all that stuff, sure it becomes unwieldy. So, just put the iPhone on a gimbal, and you’re good to go. If you have all the money for that additional stuff, and a camera crew, then bless you; us low budget people need flexibility and convenience.
@@londontaxifilms7313 I’m not worried about you low budget people. I’m worried about medium to high budget productions trying to shoehorn iPhones into productions where they don’t belong

Hello! I was considering buying the ultra wide lens for my iPhone 15 Pro Max but now that the iPhone 16 Pro Max features a 48MP ultra wide lens, I’m unsure if its quality is better than what I could achieve with the external lens. Since I plan to film during both day and night, I’m looking for opinions on whether the EXTERNAL ultra wide lens with the iPhone 15 Pro Max is better than the new iPhone 16 Pro Max’s 48MP ultra wide lens. Which lens will offer better quality video? Thank you very much in advance!
Vivo X100 Ultra does 4K 120 on two of the lenses with a larger sensor. if Vivo incorporates some type of Vivo Log in the future phones, it will beat Apple in video quality.

Ya....they're using a crazy massive DOF lens adaptor though so it's not EXACTLY that representative of a real use case for consumers. Still cool to see though.
@@cweb1988 Yeah, I figured they'd use a DOF adaptor, probably with a converter to a PL mount and a super expensive anamorphic lens. But they would have used this gear anyway, but we can still see what the iPhone can achieve as the body.
It has happened before with Unsane, Tangerine, & High Flying Bird. But really intrigued to see how this will look since the new upgrades of the 15 pro max will probs make this film LOOK like a film. Compared to previous films shot with an Iphone 5s, 6s, and 8 Plus
The fact that 120fps is only available for the main sensor is a HUGE BUMMER. I had a lot of plans for capturing unique shots with the Ultra Wide in 120fps. I‘m guessing it’s a hardware limitation, but are we sure that this isn’t something that can be foregone with the Black Magic App or something similar? Just like the hard drive issue.
@@whoismattThat is definitely a dealbreaker. That was literally the only reason I waited for the 16 Pro. The UltraWide has such a tiny minimum focusing distance thanks to the small sensor that you can get extremely unique shots with it that you aren’t able to get on anything with a larger sensor. Especially for small animals and wildlife. I understand that this a very niche use case and won’t matter to 99% of buyers but to me being able to capture these shots in 120fps and a great codec would’ve been literally a game changer. Oh well. I’ll save a few bucks with the 15 Pro and hope that the 17 Pro will finally give me that and more.
I've shot LOG on my LGv60 4 years ago, and it was far from the first android to support it. Then I shot log again with xiaomi mi 11 ultra just a couple of years later. Great footage, too. "samsung and and google" are really not "vast majority of android phones", unless you can only count to three - "1 apple sheep, 2 apple sheep, 3 app...zzzzz...."....
@@whoismatt @whoismatt that's true, however your statement is still untrue. You forgot sony Xperia line as well. 4k 120....across ALL lenses...for what, second, third generation now? Ofc with LOG and even proprietary Sony film simulations. I'm sure Apple will allow you to film 120 across all lenses in about 5, 6 years...you know, when they "get it just right". As with so so many other features that Apple copied over the years, Android phones have had LOG capabilities way way.....WAY.... before apple phones. And many still do. Also I'm pretty sure a filmmaker will install something like Filmic pro on their s24U. Somewhat agree iphone is still king of the phone video, but you really should try something like Vivos or Xiaomis of this world, I think you'll have a hard time going back to your favourite one trick pony tech company. Image quality, including video, on a 1-inch sensor is something different to what you're used to I'd wager. International phones (mind you these are widely available across the world, such as here in Europe) are fairly easily obtainable and imported to the US as well - and the 5g bands should work perfectly. You will lose the green bubble tho...or was it yellow, I forget, becuase nobody really gives a damn here.

Compared to previous films shot with an Iphone 5s, 6s, and 8 Plus
tangerine was shot with iphone..
audio mix is not that good ngl
Hi
Sounds like you were doing a Podcast in a bathroom.
Tried using other lenses with 4K 120 in the Blackmagic camera app and nope, doesn’t work. :(
@@whoismattThat is definitely a dealbreaker.
❤
You're a filmmaker? What's wrong with bein a regular doctor
its decent but still looks like a phone on video so still cant make the switch
That is IPhone 16 Pro max not IPhone 16 Pro. There is a big difference between the two.
They have identical camera features
I m just here to say this is stupid and it is only for views. And YOU know it
I've shot LOG on my LGv60 4 years ago, and it was far from the first android to support it. Then I shot log again with xiaomi mi 11 ultra just a couple of years later. Great footage, too.
"samsung and and google" are really not "vast majority of android phones", unless you can only count to three - "1 apple sheep, 2 apple sheep, 3 app...zzzzz...."....
LG stopped making phones years ago and Xiaomi are difficult to get in the USA.
These android had codec like ProRes?
@@dennyyohanes8677 no, androids support hevc 265 - you know, the codec the reviewer is pining for in this very video?
A phone review? Please. Stick with what you know. Your claim about us watching movies filmed on an iPhone is a disingenuous stretch, at best. Maybe Matt's realized that phone videos get more clicks than camera videos? It's a shame, because I really like this channel, but much more of this, and I'll take a pass. Maybe he should stop being so defensive about the comments and give his viewers what they want.
Thanks for your feedback
Not only was it raining at their wedding the guy they PAID all this money to was filming it all with just his PHONE! 😂 I'm kidding the visual at 4:34 just forced me to leave this comment 🤣 hahaha great review bro!
The reason the 5X look the same because it is the same lens. There was no update to the 5X lens on the 16 pro. Also I would like to see a movie shot on the 15 pro max or 16 pro pro max. Without any additional lenses attached. I do love the film quality of he 15 pro max. I have yet to try a lot of video on the 16 pro max since I just got it last Friday.
I just got my 16pro, but made the mistake of going 128gb since that was free for me but then again can’t complain about free, I’ll attach an ssd and try it out
