- Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas... a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers.
Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster.
On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets.
Those RPG elements like body type, fighting styles and dating girls was actually mind blowing in a GTA game. Still one of the most feature packed game in the series imo

Not to mention, it also had casinos/gambling which took GTA v half a decade to add in the game after it came out. Same thing with hydraulics, bouncing cars, lowriders etc. Even GTA V did not add this into the game until like half a decade after it come out. Same thing with nitrous boost for your car which was in GTA SA but not in GTA V. There's was also the driving skill, flying skill etc. Which I liked but sometimes disliked either way I like RPG elements like that. There was also different shooting styles, you could shoot like a gangster, cop, military etc. depending on skill and experience. And at first when GTA v released, the GTA SA barber shop and hair system was a bit better in some ways,
GTA SA also first introduced tattoo systems as well as barber shop. Also first introduced the jetpack and Hydra jump jet.
GTA SA also had properties and houses you could buy, which I don't remember GTA v v having when it came out, and I haven't played in a while but I think singleplayer STILL does not have that.
I remember when GTA v first came out and many kids who only played GTA 4 were like "wow! They added soooo many new features in GTA V! We can customize our car, do haircuts & tattoos, tons of clothes systems, fly planes, etc."......
......And I would have to remind them, that ALLLL those "new" features are actually old features that already existed in GTA SA, but for some reason Rockstar removed them for GTA 4.
This is the reason GTA IV had a lot of hate when it came out, and the reason GTA SA sold more copies than any other game in history, not even GTA 4 beat it's record, and it took a while for GTA V to come beat the record of GTA SA for most sold game worldwide. It was in 2011 that it's record was beaten I believe.
You know what the *_CRAZIEST_* thing about GTA SA? It was the MOST SOLD video game in the world in 2008 AND 2009.......which is funny since GTA 4 released 2008, whereas GTA SA released in 2004. Yet more people bought GTA SA in 2008 & 2009 than they did GTA 4.
Don't get me wrong GTA 4 was amazing, but despite the physics, graphics and fun story, it was a total DOWNGRADE compared to GTA SA, that's why GTA 4 was extremely hated when it came out despite everyone loving the new rage engine physics, graphics and story, it just REMOVED Alllllll the content & features we had already in GTA SA. - this is the reason GTA SA was the most sold game of all time for a long long long time, and even sold more copies in the year 2008 & 2009 than GTA 4 did despite GTA 4 releasing in 2008.
To this day, GTA SA is the most sold GTA behind only GTA V. GTA 4 never caught up. And it's crazy too, because GTA SA got even more popular in 2008-2011 which was supposed to be the GTA 4 era, but never the less most people chose to buy and play GTA SA. In GTA 4 once you finished the story there was literally nothing to do but drive around and try to survive 6 stars, which got old quick.
This is why GTA SA is the GOAT for me, and why is was disappointed with GTA 4 & 5 when they came out, they had less stuff to do, less features, despite having only better graphics & physics (although GTA v driving physics are kid tbh).
GTA SA was an absolute worldwide phenomenon......I wish these kids knew just how legendary and hosted it was and still is.....GTA SA was soooo ahead of it's time for a 2004 game. Sorry my comment was ridiculously long, I just love this game.

it was awesome time when i got this for xmas present,
was so fun to explore city at first time.
I remember some random gaming related TV show was on like stupidly early back in 2003/4 and yes I would get up at like 5:30/6am to watch it because of San Andreas. My first glimpse was this exact trailer and I only caught it because I’d fallen asleep and left my TV turned on and on the correct channel.

Look how beautiful CJ’s default gangsta walk was @0:07. Rockstar cut so many good features from this game. CJ’s green hoodie had a white undershirt coming out of it, that was cut. Ryder’s hairstyle and San Andreas hat was cut as well. Rockstar continues to cut the best features from their games. Thank God, for modders.
