Dearest Ana, I have been judged all my life for being “too sensitive” by my family to the point that I just want to run away from them forever. They criticize me for my wants and needs and sap me of my last bit of energy. All I ever hear from them is “you shouldn’t do that, you shouldn’t feel that way, etc.” I feel small and inadequate and I don’t fit in. Watching your video I calmed down and am going to use some of your suggestions to go on. Thank you sweet sweet Ana. ❤
It's always so emotionally challenging when our family/friends don't support us for who we are... Sending love and calming thoughts your way, my friend ❤️
If I click on something disturbing to me, such as animal cruelity, I must immediately click off, turn off, quit reading, etc. It's hard to explain, but it can "stay" with me for days clouding my well-being and causing sadness. My mind does not want to turn off at night either. Sometimes I recite poems, scriptures or songs to myself and it helps. Thanks for being so open with your feelings. It has helped me and I'm sure many others.
I so much liked to see you are knitting. There is nothing that calms me more in the evening and (why not ) some days in the morning while having my coffee. I watch your videos with great comfort. Thank you!
I really appreciate your willingness to talk about the darker topics of transience and death. It's pretty uncommon for people to speak of it openly and without negativity. I also find a lot of comfort in knowing that life isn't forever. It's calming when I am feeling completely overwhelmed, especially with the state of the world we live in. I won't be here in 100 years, what a relief! 😅
I know! The thought of my own finiteness is also very comforting to me, although my stubborn physical being is often horrified 😅 I'm so glad to meet a lot of understanding and resonance with what I say about darker subjects...
Your videos about highly sensitive people resonate strongly with me. I am probably autistic, although I do not yet have a medical diagnosis. The strategies you suggest are very helpful. Thank you once again, dear Ana.
There's a theory that high sensitivity is actually a form of autism. I used to think I was just highly sentitive, but now I know I have ADHD and autism (AuDHD). It's been very helpful to realize.
Dear Ana, thank you for another great video! Your channel is like a peaceful little island in the vast ocean of content. And I always enjoy coming back to it. I struggled a lot with accepting myself as an HSP. And I still struggle, I can't lie. Sometimes I feel like a burden to everyone, to my partner - because I need this "special treatment" - I'm always the first one to get tired, overwhelmed, emotional or whatever. I hate driving with loud music surrounding me, I don't particularly like hanging out in bars anymore and I can't ever cook without my headphones because the sound of the ventilation makes me really frustrated for some reason. But the feeling that my partner accepts me despite of (or more likely thanks to) that is helping me overcoming this issue. I know I didn't choose this, it's something I grew up with and now I have to live with it. And I can accept and embrace it or I can spend the rest of my life feeling sorry for myself. And I don't want to do that. Ok, maybe we need this special treatment, we need our quiet rituals, we need to be alone a lot but I think on the other hand we have a lot to offer to the world and people around us - deeper observations, meaningful connections and even some artistic insights. And that's not insignificant. Take care!
This is so true! High sensitivity is almost always a struggle, but each and every time we find the way to go on and to share 🤗Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words ❤️
Dear Ana, thanks for your video. Now I am packing my small suitcase, I am going to spend the winter in south Europe. A traveltip: I have noticed that it is better for my HSP to buy a bus ticket (long distance), instead of going by train - flying is no option for Me. In trains it is crowded with noisy people, children screaming etc. Often it is almost silent in most the buses...Some of them are running through night
YES to controllable spaces! It took me years to figure this one out. I am a very tidy HSP and married to a highly visual person. This means that I like to put everything in its designated places, but my husband likes to "see" everything or he forgets it's there. To me, this is visual clutter. I have created several controllable spaces that allow me to calm myself and relax. From a room (bedroom/bathroom) to a little shelf with my favorite collectibles, these spaces help to calm me as I do not have any control over the way my husband keeps or relates to his belongings (nor do I wish to). Also - I have found weighted blankets and stuffed animals to be very soothing and tactile. Thanks so much dear Ana.
I can totally relate to all you've mentioned! / "Tactile hunger", I've never heard of this before. Cool, thank you, I learned something new! :) / Transience helps me, too! / I consider myself a highly sensitive person as well. Since I don't feel comfortable or safe in my own body, due to trauma and ailments, I look to find one spot on or in my body that feels neutral or even comfortable in this moment, be it even so tiny, no matter. This serves me as an anchor, to where I can return and stabilize myself during the day, when other sensations overwhelm me, similar to creating a controlable space, just in the body. Often I will lay my hand(s) on that spot, and feel its warmth. I don't know if this makes any sense to you. ~ May your nervous system be touched by calm, peace and friendliness whenever you need it. 🌸🍀🌸
Like you I get overwhelmed by sensory stimuli - especially noise, but also visual things - I can only process so much, even when it's something I enjoy. I have managed to make noise be less of a problem - I used to get overwhelmed and stressed, which made everything worse, but these days I find reminding myself that they are just noises, just temporary (transience 😊) and cannot hurt me, helps me stop focusing when I can't change them. I've known I was an HSP for a log time, but it seems to have also taken a long time to find the things that work for me. You seem to be a much quicker learner! And you look stunning in purple.
Always good to hear some advice from another lovely HSP ❤ I loved the part about quiet evenings, I also find it helpful in the morning. Generally having little bits of time being quiet, not speaking, not listening is really good for me. Makes me more mindful. Anyway, thanks for the tips, you've encouraged me to go back into crocheting, which I first started during lockdown, will see how much I remember 😅 And maybe scrapbooking, I love doing yearly vision boards for my bullet journal, why not do it more often? I am far from an artist, but who cares, it's just for fun! Lots of love from Poland, take care 🥰
Hi Ana - oh my, I loved your comment about your mug being a controllable space! When I am feeling a bit "messy" (ie overwhelmed) I like to shop for a new mug, and I love using that new mug for a good while. I like to pick a mug with a nature theme, my favourite mugs have birds on, or plants and birds. It helps me feel cosy (with hot beverage) and close to nature again. sending you best wishes
I created a quiet space to work thru my stressful times. It’s a space for me to dream and work thru my daily challenges. Great video to support those who are a sensitive person ❤
There was definitely no rambling from you. I totally enjoyed everything you had to say and can relate. Thank you! You always bring a smile to my face and an enjoyment from watching your videos. Sending you love dear Ana ❤🙂 Have a blessed day!
Thank you! I can well understand how small worries spicy debilitating feelings; they are reminders that we live in complicated and imperfect world. To some people, a broken plate is simply a broken plate; the pieces need to be swept up and thrown away, then they go on with the day. But for others, well, it's a reminder of the fragility of everything, and thoughts of all the steps needed to replace the plate and if the plate had sentimental value (a family heirloom or a gift from a dear friend), then it can be devastating.
Thank you Ana, you make so much sense to me and your words relate well to this internal world in my head, that feels everything so deeply. Thank you. Xx
Dearest Ana ❤I love this video. I truly understand the stress - I too daily have to deal with this issue. We are preparing for Rosh HaShana (New Year in Israel 🇮🇱) Praying for worldwide peace 🙏🙏 Love purple on you 💜
Wow you look radiant! I Hope your skin is Shining from health and happiness❤ you certainly sound really wise. You inspire me to make some time crafting with my hs Kid, also I Need a common Place book again. I keep buying agendas and never open them ever again. We have a family calendar on the fridge were I write everything of importance.
Was mir übrigens beim Einschlafen hilft, ist Melatonin.❤
Hi Ana. I sat listening to this video and was absolutely enthralled. I have followed you from the start, and although many, many of your videos have spoken to me and moved me, this one is the one for me. It says what I need to hear right now and you could have developed it with me in mind! Thank you, Ana. And by the way, you look stunning in purple 💜
Thank you Ana. I learned so much from this video. What really was helpful right now is the idea of the feeling of transcience. I know about this but being reminded today has really helped me in accepting my emotions around a family member who is very dear to me and is going through a difficult phase.
I feel so seen! I think I still haven't quite realized how important it really is for me to look more into things like this. I have had an eating disorder for a long time and it gets triggered when I am overwhelmed and out of touch with myself. Thank you! maybe I will watch this video again in some days, I hope it will help me... also our names are similar, mine is Hanna Goldbach! have a good day :)
I have found the transience idea as well, and while I don't always have success in minimizing stress with it, for the most part it's my strategy of choice. We have had a lot of rain over the last few days due to hurricane Helene, and being indoors doing quiet projects has been calming as well. It was like being closed in somewhere cozy. And knitting every evening before bed always needs to be there! 😊❤
Yes, we are fine. We are actually several states away from the areas where the storm made landfall, so just getting rain but no damage. I'm perfectly content to stay indoors!
So good to see you, Ana! As always, your videos are calming, helpful, and thought provoking. I have been splurging on Autumn scented wax melts for my candle warmer. I cannot tolerate perfumes or incense, but as long as I am selective I can enjoy the soothing aromas of the waxmelts.
Tactile hunger, quiet evenings and transience, it's amazing how you think of these topics. My two cats satisfy my tactile hunger, I kiss and cuddle them a hundred times a day. Of course, I cuddle my kids too. I treasure my quiet evenings but unlike you, I'm usually on RUclips. 🤭 Transience is something I don't often think about but funny enough, today I started reading a new book by Oliver Burkemann, called Four thousand weeks and in the first pages he mentions how short human life is and how before long we're all going to die, even though our solar system will continue for another 1.6 billion years. I never realised I was a highly sensitive person until you and another RUclipsr I watch from the Netherlands started talking about it. I treasure my time alone and everything that I enjoy in life is a solitary activity. I like people in very small doses! Your short hair looks lovely and your skin looks as youthful as a baby's. ❤🌷🐞🐝
Thanks for the interesting topics to ponder on. As to creativity, I have always leaned on cooking, but I might try something new. Beautiful purple top. It looks great on you. Thanks again.
Your purple sweater! I've just started knitting, I would love to make something like this :) Excited to start my day (as a hsp) watching your video! Thank you

Hi Ana!
What is the pattern of your beautiful purple sweater?? I love it and the fit and color you chose is gorgeous.
Hi Abigail! Unfortunately, the pattern is not available in English, but on Ravelry there's a designer called Moreca knit, she has a couple of very similar jumper patterns. Hope this helps!
Thank you Ana, Best to you and your husband.

Of course one should always appreciate good times and live them to the fullest. I am a big fan of practicing emotional vigilance and preparation for crap. Just like you can count on death, you can also count on major life crises. Best be prepared. Rather than throw hands up in the air in desperation, I think it is far easier to be able to tell oneself that it has arrived and reign in all the strategies that you have prepared to cope with the arrival of the unwelcome guest in your life. I watch a lot of people spend weeks and months on “shock”; “how could this have happened”. Best to skip this stage and save one’s energy for coping and recovering to the new balance.
