So fun fact when you cape stun an enemy and jumping on them while in mid air you have a opportunity to change your direction and hop on a different enemy !! That should help u when someone is coming up and is about to hit you

There's a solution to your "jump over stun takedown" problem: if you press attack in the direction of another enemy during the attack, Batman actually jumps over to that other enemy and lands on him instead. This move is called the "directed aerial attack". During this attack , you actually do get i-frames, as long as you launch yourself to the second enemy before anyone hits you. This mechanic is not explicitly brought up in the game, unless you go look up the move list, but it's immensely useful.

    • @underthemayo
      @underthemayo  3 месяца назад +13

Yeah people have been telling me about it. The problem is since I'm not expecting the aerial attack I don't realize it's happening until it's too late. My reactions are a bit slow.

    • @roarsack503
      @roarsack503 3 месяца назад +6

@@underthemayo Yeah, I can get that. It's just a matter of getting used to. Once you do, though, you don't really even want to do the regular aerial strike because the redirect does the same thing but is much safer.
Oh, one more note: as an exception, when doing the regular aerial strike on shield guys, other enemies will not attack you.

The 62x combo is something I’m proud to see. Hopefully my still unpublished video has indeed contributed to the understanding of Freeflow and yes, you were accurate about Freeflow Focus. That made me smile.
As a Batman fan since The Animated Series, I’d an immediate connection with the characters and voice actors. I don’t blame anybody like you for not being as interested.
I look forward seeing how you’ll approach Arkham Knight since it has one giant elephant in the room but I would suggest putting the series down for a few weeks. Getting burned out isn’t a good idea. Origins has a similar section to Asylum’s Scarecrow that involves a character you may have seen in City. I’ll not say the name to avoid direct spoilers. Origins is the lesser game for the amount of bugs, annoying gating of the abilities and insane restrictions to unlock some of the stuff unless you really want to engage in the small missions. Avoid Blackgate at all costs because it isn’t just a Metroidvania, it’s a poorly executed one (by some of the key members of Metroid Prime Trilogy which is mindboggling).

"I love a stealth game where you are encouraged for being stealthy". You'll love Splinter Cell and Thief. I find Arkham's stealth to be a little basic but it does have enemies be more afraid of you the more the sections go on so at the very least it does a good job at doing the thing Batman I feel should do more often like how he was using guerilla tactics on armed thugs in Batman Begins.
Your description of the combat I agree with, people often call it too basic, but for me it enters the realm of being just challenging enough, it has far more going for it than say Zelda combat does and Zelda gets praised like no tomorrow.
Your arguments explaining why City is better are sound and it could be because I played on normal so it never forced me to use the options like you claim to here. I do think the Insomniac Spider-Man games are better for letting you switch the difficulty whenever you want, but fair enough.
I prefer Asylum's pacing mainly because of the fact that it never had a level as horribly padded out as the Penguin mission which is so padded and boring, I would've quit the game the first time through. You got to do so many objectives within objectives just to get to Cobblepot, I am making a big deal out of this but this part feels so much longer than I am describing. Asylum never really had any of these things.
That and I was also annoyed by how many gun enemies I would accidentally bump into because I didn't have detective mode on at all times.
I disagree on the ending to City, I found it pretty good and it was probably one of the better moments of Batman getting rid of a villain while maintaining his "pacism" ideals. I am sort of a Batman fan all though honestly the superhero's practice of pacifism I just actively scoff at now but off topic.
I do think you are right when praising City's gadget use, I sort of feel like Arkham Origins did it better since it never had any levels as horribly padded as the mission with Cobblepot.
Arkham Knight has the best stealth and combat in the series with all that said, just that the game is let down by so many other things like why is the Batmobile a tank instead of being used for just chases only?
Good video I'd say, I disagree on some parts but you made your points well enough.

I also want to add my favourite skill to unlock is the Dive Bomb move because it's so ridiculous that it's supposed to be a non-lethal takedown (because Batman never kills) but you begin the attack from above while gliding then locking to a target and diving straight to them building momentum, then hitting the target's neck with your forearms. That's a lot of force to break a neck.

It feels like something straight out of metal gear solid in a good way. It felt really weird when you said you were mixed on it because I definitely thought it would be a boss battle you would love. FreeFlow Focus is the mechanic that I love most; Learning to use it appropriately, going super fast in challenges and then cashing it in for gadgets.
It's super fun to use partly because it still requires knowledge of routes for enemies. You still have to know who to go for, and you still need to keep in mind how to not get hit. It's super fun in the Joker challenge, where you can rack up an insane combo, but you still have to be mindful of how to use it. I much prefer this over cashing it in for gadgets, but it's still useful in certain circumstances.

Mr. Freeze is generally considered the best boss fight. I recommend Arkham Origins. It's mostly more Arkham City but with a better story. It's a little buggy though. • @apexsmokepacker
      @apexsmokepacker 3 месяца назад +1

I’m sorry but ya’ll overrating Origins story way too much
It starts off as a Batman vs Assassins story but all the sudden it’s all about Batman vs the Joker for a third time (but I did like the chemistry)
Bane is badass but we never see what he means by he waited to kill Batman for so long. Like he says to him “I’ve waited this for a long time, with your death. I’ll find peace”
Half of the assassins were practically wasted
Deathstroke has a cool boss fight but he gets beaten and is later forgotten
Shiva & Deadshot are reduced to side villains.
Firefly, like deathstroke, was cool but he was set up as a plot device to prevent Batman from saving Alfred.
The highlight of the game was Batman and Alfred’s relationship.
It’s a decent story but you guys are giving it too much credit

@@apexsmokepackerBut it's the best story we could get at least in this universe. It's not like City itself wastes a lot of Hugo Strange and Ra's Al Ghul for the sake of Joker and Batman again, Asylum feels like a kiddy version of the darker Serious House on Serious Earth and Knight though it had good ideas feels a little janky in the execution overall, especially when Scarecrow turns into this generic "I'm gonna blow up Gotham" kind of motivation and not much else aside from his dope design.
Origins is not like the best Batman story ever, it's not Long Halloween, Year One, or No Man's Land or even the Dark Knight Returns. But when you put it side by side with the rest of the Arkham series, it's the closest we can get to experiencing something as a very good Batman series. Besides though it retconned some Asylum audio tapes, Joker's monologue is among the best established so far, and makes up more than enough for him hijacking the plot. Oh and Mr. Freeze's story was cool too in other ways.
Perhaps people do overrate Origins. And it's not perfect, it's still weighed down by a lot of narrative choices that plagues Arkham games. But considering the material they are given, damn man you gotta give WB Games Montreal some credit for putting out their best. The fact that they tried again in Gotham Knights despite the game being such an absolute dumpster fire.

City didn’t waste anyone, it told the story the developers wanted to tell. Everyone had their position to the plot and the stakes were Batman and a bunch of people dying. Hilarious how you say that as if origins didn’t waste black mask and half of the assasins for another Batman vs joker story as if it that wasn’t gonna be a sour taste in people’s mouths after joker just died
Asylum kiddy? Sure, when I think of kiddie, I think of seeing corpses, blood, torture sections 😂
Knight was just trash so we can agree on that
Without Batman and the Alfred moments in origins, it be the same as the others.
City is the best story objectively, cry about it

@@apexsmokepackerLike how? Hugo Strange and Ra's was sidelined even when their side of things was a lot more interesting. City is not bad, but it isn't a masterpiece either. The main mystery of the plot is put aside for a long fetch quest with only the simple message of how far Batman would go to save even his greatest enemy. While that's a good angle to work with it feels like a long stretch and roundabout fetch quest unlike the beat for beat mystery solving of Origins.
I fail to see how it leaves a sour taste in the mouth with Joker's death even though it's actually one of the best takes on the character by far. Origins elevated his and Batman's dynamics which in a way made his return in Knight despite being so contrived at least bearable.
Yes, Origins wasted half of the assassins, but remember when I said that it suffers from the things that weighed down Arkham Games? That's because Arkham games are so insistent in putting so many eggs in one basket and Origins is no different. Funny how you say that I don't admit that, when I clearly did.
I dunno why you're getting so defensive over City. And absolutely refutes its flaws despite being so obvious. And then you're gonna go and tell someone who has a different opinion to "go cry about it".
Wouldn't that mean it's you who's overrating something?
Oh and where is the Blood? All I see are grinning corpses, that's not half as grim as the one you'd see in Serious House in Serious Earth. Not even the body horror of the Titan can compare.

It really wasn’t, what would Hugo Strange do as the focus of the story? Have guards send Tyger guards to find Batman. Have Ra’s trap Batman with his assasins? That’s your idea for an interesting story for City. 😂
Because Joker literally died the game prior, we already know what Batman and Joker’s relationship was. Yes it was well performed It wasn’t elevated, they just explained how they met. We already know Batman’s relationship with the Joker. We actually see it ourselves in the first 2 games. Jesus
You didn’t say anytging, you were slurping off Origins
And it has blood, Some blood in crime scenes. The game has intense violence all throughout. This includes torture, fistfighting and gun violence. However none of it is graphic and not any worse than in the Batman movies.

Graphics technologically from 2009 can still look good!
Now, look at the technological bloat of modern graphics, which require more and more graphical processing power and memory - both storage and RAM - to play properly, even though, aside from some details or effects like shadows and lighting, the visible improvement of graphics becomes smaller and less noticeable, while requiring more and more work and resources. Normalise late PS3 graphics!

That's a flawed approach to graphical standards when it all comes down to presentation and execution. Old Rocksteady always knew how to maximize and optimize their use of the Unreal Engine to its fullest potential. It's why Arkham Knight looks as good as it does despite being released in the PS4 era and it still looks clean in a lower end hardware like the Switch. It's the same logic in how sometimes Sprite 2D still looks more detailed than 3D models and you will see more refined details that otherwise doesn't stand out as good in modern interpretations. Like room details of RE2 being lost in translation with the remake.
It's not the PS3 graphics that needs to be normalized. It's the idea that devs need to stop undercutting working on refining graphical details and presenting their work a lot better than just focusing on textures. It's why games like Half-Life 2 still looks as good while Cyberpunk 2077 is so miserable.

An interesting fact on the animations side: when Arkham Asylum came out, Unreal Engine didn't yet have internal cloth physics, so the dev team at Rocksteady put a dedicated animation designer to implement the whole library Batman's cape animations, in order for it to look natural in all contexts.
Also, the combat system *does* have animation canceling, but only in very specific context: you can cancel any stage of regular attacks into a parry counter when parrying is available. For comparison, Arkham Origins doesn't have this feature, and its fighting system (despite visual similarity) feels completely atrocious due to the constant flow breaks.

Maybe it's even more subtle than it looks (e.g. some kind of internal context which picks attacks with specific animation length, or extends parry window depending on your attack length and/or incoming interrupting attack), so there's some kind of a flow feel that you're always cancelling your animations exactly at the right moment for parries.

After getting used to 60fps and coming back to play Arkham Asylum, it really is jarring and makes the game feel very janky. I'd love to replay this in 4k60.

The consoles ran this game at 720p
Ps3 and xbox 360 weren’t powerful enough to handle 1080p

You should probably go check out Doom Eternal soon! It’s a pretty cool fps that came out a few years ago

DOOM : why people playing hard difficulty on Doom Eternal at first playthrough and complaining
Arkham : I got frustrated against mr. freeze and play the game on hard at first playthrough

Gives a certain perspective, how come Norse GoW fumbled over the shoulder camera that badly?
Arkham series has always had the right balance in showing the action without suffocating you with the camera and provides its own "cinematic" take the way fixed angles do. Norse GoW absolutely refuses to do away with over the shoulder angle and you can't see shit because of limited field of view.

Yeah gow 2018 could have done this camera and not used those fucking tank controls.

Hi Mayo, did you played the demo for "Crow Country"? I think you are going to like it, It's very similar to old school survivor horrors titles, the combat it's a little bit messy for my taste, but I like it a lot, and I think you will problably like it (sorry for bad english)
