@@MattPassarelli thank you so much for the response. I’d love to learn how to disassemble a pair of joycons and swap the outer shell with a different color. Thanks again and happy new year.
Not only are my fan grills cracked, but the area around the screw holes are also cracked... not to mention the amount of hand oil damage done to it... Ill be coming back to this video soon!
Already purchased the reg housing shell. But after watching this video I think I'm just gonna stick with case instead of replacing my Housing especially the front housing 😂
All that work to not replace the digitizer lol also extremrate has a clear or color frame that looks nice that would have been worth checking out also I think you forgot the speaker covers and led plastic plastic piece in the old frame
I have a nintendo switch and my slide right railer on the nintendo was broken i fixt it but. now is the problem that some screws are not turning in to the system so some screws will fall out. because the thing for in the screws are to lose and i wanna know if you need to replace the back case or the front to fix this Sorry if its not realy good to understand not the best in english Greets from someone out netherland
@@MattPassarelli got my parts in today! Did the repair took about 5 hours (including a run to lowes for a heat gun) everything still works and I ended up replacing digitizer too.
I want to be brave and do this diy because my vent grills are all broken off and it looks awful. Nintendo want to charge a whole new switch to replace the casing! and if that wasn’t enough, I’ve JUST discovered the game cartridge slot is also not reading anymore😩 the only thing that worries me is heating up the screen to separate from the faceplate. I love my Switch but damn it’s such shit quality hardware!
@@MattPassarelli fair point about the cart reader. My thinking is that, if I’m going to open up my switch, I may as well recondition the whole unit, as it’s worn really badly. The other concern I had was that, the quality of these third party cart readers aren’t always good, and it’s a bit of a lottery to get one that works 😩
I can't wait to do this with my own switch, since my vents on the shell have also cracked. Quick question, which heat gun would you recommend for this job?
Almost certainly not. The flame is too much of a direct heat and you'd be almost guaranteed to melt the plastic of the screen and/or the housing. I guess if you were replacing both the screen and the housing then it would matter. But at the point, that's half the console and you'd be buying both parts individually to replace and put together.
Hello, how easy is it to keep the Digitiser and Screen attached together when removing them from the shell? Because just over 2 years ago I had to replace another switch shell and the screen detached from the Digitiser, not sure why that was.
I’ve ordered a new housing so I’ll see if I’ve got the nerve to attempt it again, don’t really want to clean out dust again from the screen and the underside of the digitiser which what happened last time when both separated. I don’t think they’re glued either but between both of them there is a thin adhesive strip, which I believe that’s to stop the LCD from moving about. But it’s not like properly glued like you said. I have a feeling last time I attempted this, the LCD ribbon cable was still attached to the mother board and that’s why both separated! Gonna make sure everything is disconnected first should I attempt it again! 👍
I don't blame you. I went into a switch lite recently to change out an analogue stick and after I put it back together it started to smoke😅 So my confidence in this type of stuff is shot.
Please do more in depth guides like this. This was something amazing to study and learn. Can’t wait to do it my switch in a couple of weeeks

The top vent part right next to the headphone jack is broken. Is there a easy way to jet replace that.

How to do this with protetive screen in touch??
It's possible to remove the serial number sticker with the heat gun?
@@MattPassarelli Thx!!
Hi, so I am getting my Nintendo switch repaired by Nintendo this week.
Do they also repair broken vents as well?
Update? Did they fix it all??

You can use a hair dryer!
err what if I don't have a hair dryer?
@@MattPassarelli Oh alrighty. Thanks for the link lol. Gonna order it right now.

Hi can you show us how to repair or clean the vent in an oled switch?
I'd love to, but I unfortunately don't have an OLED switch and I don't plan on getting one at this time.
I had one when I was a kid, the vent broke. I got one recently, used it very carefully, lent it to my girlfriend and the vent broke too 🙁
I have the same issue with the screw.
actually you need to use hair dryer everyday people common people have
