was actually hoping to see a more in depth showcase of this chip from you, great content as always
I will try to make an additional video about this chip later.
@@sthetixofficial that would be great, especially showing the flashing and the new reset function not shown on the other v6 chips
i got my v1 patched switch modchipped wth nx instinct v6s and it was very interesting to watch how exactly the dude did my console, good stuff!
thanks
Just did your kamikaze method for the first time. Things are looking good so far. I used as an reper to find the pot, the little dots that are on the PCB instead of really measuring it.
Love watching your modding videos!
Glad you like them!
Very clean job and so satisfying to watch. Keep up the good work and thanks for inspiring us to improve.
you are welcome
Hi, i followed this tutorial but ended up switch not booting. I removed all wires and mod chip but still it is not booting up. Do you have idea how to fix?
@@sthetixofficial Fantastic work!! Can you tell me what RPM speed did you set the MA-ANT pen grinder to? Has 3 speeds. 5k, 10k, 15k RPM

Awesome video and tutorial as always!!
Glad you liked it!
Very minor detail but thanks so much for explaining why you don't solder any GND points because of the flex cable!
Much love to you! Keep up!
Tried this method today, everything worked fine, thankyou so much for your video!

@@sthetixofficial I did It but when I put on my console and after training process, v6s have led light Blue and doesn't open instinct page but NORMAL page. I have checked all value in diode mode and was ok. What's wrong?
same thing here, blue light then it goes to OFW instead of CFW.@@GiuseppeFregiato

Wonderfull work!
great video, thank you
Glad you liked it!
You make the kamikaze method look so easy! At some point I'll need to try it.
Be careful: it is not for everyone.
Thanks
Definitely not for the faint of heart! Still crossing my fingers for a software base vulnerability!
I understand your concerns but it just isn't going to happen. I'd suggest buying a premodded switch with picofly. Barely more than a used switch.
I hope in years to come I will have to eat mt words, but it just won't happen.
yes you can use Yuzu
@@whitak3r I was thinking that since its almost EOL for the switch since S2 is just around the corner, theres a bigger incentive for the hackers to look for exploits, kinda like what TheFlow did during the EOL for Vita. He kept the exploit to himself and only release it after support for Vita was dropped.
To be fair, a modded OLED in the market here costs about 33% more than retail. So, maybe that makes sense...
we can all wish, but really it will never happen, and if im being honest this hardware “vulnerability” to me isnt really a vulnerability, it is literally an external chip forcing the hardware into submission by writing to the emmc and pulsing the soc, now it is still literally a vulnerability, but what I would consider a real vulnerability is the original v1 consoles problem.
@@whitak3rbarely more than used? Oled used runs 350 canadian used. Oled modded is minimum 600 cad. Quite the difference. Sold mine for 600 a few days ago, im the minimum lol
Bom vídeo, bem explicado. Mas esse método não tento não, arriscado até demais.
The best of the best 👍👍. But scratchin the 3 layer is bit chalanging and hard
Thank you :)
Looks like a very risky way to mod this. Nice job!
What tools do you use and what is the alternative to the kamikaze method you mentioned? Thanks for the awesome video. You gained a subscriber
you can use the dat0 adapter but it could fail someday. I recommend using the kamikaze method for the oled. and i use the ma ant D1 grinder
Valeu!
Thank you for the support
If you went too far on the D pad and broke the via, is it possible to recover the board by removing and reballing the emmc with a breakout board inbetween? Then make a jumper wire from the trace (reenforced with solder mask, of course), directly to the emmc?
Great tutorial!!!! Do you intend to make a video about the new features of reset/firmware updates by usb C?
yes later
@@sthetixofficial thank you guy!!!! One more question. What's your grind machine?
it is the ma ant D1
@@sthetixofficial Do you use two hands to hold the pen steady? Like keep one hand over the other to prevent grinding bit from slipping around?
Love the videos! Do you happen to have a schematic for how to connect oled v3 using a v2 cpu cable? I just need help on the cpu portion
No, sorry
As always, great and informative videos!
One thing I would like to know. What kind of interference causes the flex cables? I wasn't able to find much info about it, just some random posts which looked like the chip causes issues with the Switch (black bars on the screen, fps drops, etc.). On the other hand, I had issues with the chip that was randomly un/able to glitch the booting but after sticking it on the shield and covering it start to work properly.
at some point your console cannot boot to the OFW with the kit
is this 100% confirmed ? does it always happen, I heard different people say different things
@@sthetixofficial
Great work! Will there be a seperate video about this chip?
Yes soon.
Using the kamikaze point i have a question, when you got the last layer where is the dat0 point have another contact points beside it or not? From the video when you zoom looks like have more two one of each side!
yes there is, that is why we need to mark the location precisely. Please check the board scans
Hello! not sure if you're around to answer questions, but all my diode measurements are correct and solder joints look okay, FPC is a little rough but measurements seem okay. I'm getting a solid white light on my V6s (other colors show up and go away quickly). White light stays on for like 10 seconds and goes off. disconnecting the cpu cable also doesn't boot the switch. I'm getting a black screen either way.
it is not always about the diode value. White means something is shorting or not right too. Please check everything that were altered.
Great video again, many thanks. I have this chip coming in the post if I solder it just like the video how would I reset the chip via USB if it ever needs it. Same question for the update via USB process.
If you connect the D+, D- and the Vbus, you just turn the console off, connect the console to your computer and do the Putty procedure. Please watch my Putty guide.
@@sthetixofficial will do, thank you.
Hi Sthetix you are awesome, would you recommend this method over the Dat0 Adapter? I mean, if you get someone with enough experience to ensure it turns out well, would it be better than the adapter? Love your videos
Yes, it is way better than the dat0 adapter as it is permanently attached.
Thks for your answer, so you would call this the definitive version of the installby now?@@sthetixofficial
Yes , i always do it by default. It is the best.
Hey sthetix, I am modding my oled today with the v6s, but the 3.3v capacitor I'm supposed to wire to says 0v even without the wire, do you know what could be happening?
Hi,
very good video and explained in the most simple way. Just one question, If I don't have a grinder what tool do you reccomend to expose the B and D points?
you better buy a mini grinder, i dont recommend using other tools.
I only recommend using a mini grinder. But maybe you can try to scratch it using a very sharp tweezer
Thank you
I rarely comment on things, maybe I've never even left a comment on youtube... I've done about 20 "kamikaze" mods so far (and hundreds of mods in total, from the first modchips to this day), but I wanted to share one of my thoughts with you, because I greatly appreciate and respect your work. I've thought about it, and I'm interested in your opinion on that, what do you think about the process being done with a cnc laser instead of a grinding pen. In that way, the risk would be reduced and the process itself would be quicker and look cleaner? I would also like to get in touch with you, because we mostly think alike, but you are always one step ahead of me 😂🤣
Anyway, great video and thank you so much for posting this kind of content. I'm glad we have people like you in the community!
I think you can use a CNC laser machine. I do have a laser fiber machine too, but I haven't figured out the correct parameter. you can contact me anytime via twitter / discord.
that is a really interesting idea, if possible I would like to see this way to do a kamikaze
So big love inside !!! ❤️
How much grad must the hot air for tinning the dat0 280 grad ? without fan = 0% from 100% ?
it depends on your hot air settings and solder paste type. mine is leaded and needs at least 180c - 200c (real temp) to melt it.
@@sthetixofficial Hmm I don't think you can melt anything at 200c on the hot temp station. Maybe 350c up and airflow to 30-40%, what do you think? Soldering gun will melt solder at 200c but not sure the air station will be good that low. What exactly do you have it set at for ChipQuick solder paste 63/37.
lead free will melt at 225c, while leaded is lower 180c. you need to find the correct settings of your hot air rework station yourself.
So i'm having trouble sourceing a good tip for my grinder for this. I have a few but they are not gentle enough for this procedure. Done it twice now with ok results but I know it can be better
where did you get that .2mm from if you don't mind me asking
It came with the Ma-Ant D1 mini grinder.
Is there any particular reason why you used a different RST point from your last OLED video? I remember when I installed the V6 on my OLED I had some issues with it resetting itself randomly until I redid the RST point and put some tape on it, is that why?
The top RST point will be more convenient to solder if you don't want to remove the board from the chassis.
Hey there! I have a question here, can i do this mod chip installation with the latest firmware version of switch? 17.0.1. Will there be a problem with the JB? Or some apps? Really much appreciated for the answer.
it is fine
Great job! I'm wondering what temp is your solder paste and solder wire? And, just for reference, what temp/airflow do you set your soldering iron for the CPU caps and hot gun for the Dat0?
i dont use a hot air currently but i use a solder paste. you can do the same thing using a sharp solder tip , like the T12 JL02
@@sthetixofficial but what is the melting temperature for the solder wire and the solder paste? 183c or 138c?
@lyubo89 183c
Thanks :)
Well now I want try this method too, let's go buy another OLED hehe
By the way... any new reason to not use the FPCB for the point A, 3.3V etc...?

NOOB QUESTION: Is installing the Instinct NX V6S just like installing the V6? I would like to install it using the dat0 adapter method but not sure which video to follow! Thanks in advance :)
I've replied to your email.
Can you do a v1 install tutorial ? I've learnt a lot from you throughout the years. Thanks
it is more or less like the v2. but i will try to do it later
@@sthetixofficial that will be very much appreciated, thank you so much. Is it the same instinct chip with the emmc cable and the v1 cpu cable or something else ?
yes it is.
@@sthetixofficial thank you so much for the info
Nice video! Only 1 question whats the difference between INSTINCT OLED V6 vs V6s?
V6S is the V6 successor it is more advanced
Hello, which speed should I choose from 1-5, would I choose between 1-2? Does it take a long time to drill through layer 2? I would like to try this giant because the dat0 adapters are simply disgusting
1 is enough. it took me about 5 - 10 minutes to get to the C point.
If I somehow messed the unexposed rst trace, will it be fine since there are other exposed rst points?
I want to use that unexposed rst point to be a practice dummy before doing the clk point, since it'll be my first time modding oled
Just find a dead multi layer PCB and practice as much as you want.
@sthetix You forgot the NX logo under the kickstand... FYI
yeah :)
I did a few V2 and lite need to do an oled. Does the Dat0 adapter work well ?
It does work well.
Great install. I stopped installing Instinct chips because the board quality is garbage. Almost half of the board I received had defects. The shops were ok with replacing them but it required ordering more chips. I started installing Pico chips which have been much better quality and always glitch instantly.
Sorry to hear that
@sthetixofficial If the DAT0 line were to break by scratching too much, would the console not turn on? Or what kind of damage would it cause to the console? In that case, is there a way to repair that line by connecting the DAT 0 of the NAND to some small remnant of the kamikaze zone? Thanks for the video.
yes your console cannot boot if the DAT0 line broken. You can repair the "bridge" or connection between the emmc and the cpu by removing the CPU and the emmc chip.
@@sthetixofficial thanks for the reply
@sthetixofficial A question that I know may seem absurd but I'm sure you know something. Can the kamikaze method be performed on a Mariko v2 or a v1? I know it doesn't make sense to do it but the point is in the same place and there are the same resistors nearby (A)? it's worth knowing since it's more common to find normal boards to learn. Thanks
why do we need to do the kamikaze on other consoles while their solder point is exposed.
and each motherboard has different layouts, so it doesnt make any sense at all
@@sthetixofficial Because it's easier to find a bad switch board that isn't OLED to practice with, is it possible to find it in the same place?
you mean for practice?
you can buy a dead oled board or try using any switch board and sand to the 3rd layer.
I wonder shetix , do you repair video game consoles too , to resell them or for yourself ?
I do have an online store, you can check it
Can i re-use my picofly chip that was installed on my previous oled to my new oled console right away ? Thanks.
you can.
the V6S doesn't seem to be available from ali anymore. Any news, when it will be available again? Or is a new version planned?
it is on ali.
There is an alternative cmd point to that of the resistor in the OLED switch?
no there isnt
not really sure where a good place to ask this is, but out of curiosity i homebrewed by installing an instinct v6 chip myself, my clk point reads around 1070 which from what I understood means the CLK/D point could be grounded the whole console actually works with all the homebrew though. I couldn't see any issues with it so just tried to turn it on. I'm pretty experienced at soldering, but not really the actual technicalities of stuff, any idea what would cause this?
if it is working then you dont need to be worry of it. try to reverse the polarity of the multimeter, RED probe to GND and the BLACK probe to the D point. You should read about 0.400 - 0.500V
@@sthetixofficial Cheers mate for the reply, might get a reshell in the future and i'll fiddle around then. Whilst it's working I'll just leave it xD
If I don't use the Kamikaze method, is the installation the same as V6? Thank you. Very good work!
yes just substitute the kamikaze with the dat0 adapter

I have the normal V6 chips. I install one on an oled thats fully updated will i need to update the firmware pn the instinct chip via PC? If so is there a place to find the firmware and instructions on how to do so? Thanks
no need to update the v6 chip
I would like to see an alternative clk point, I don't like that point, let's see if you can find an alternative without having to raise the cpu or emmc. I know you can do it
you need to remove the CPU cover to install the CPU flex cable. And at the same time you need to scratch that D point - as there is no other alternatives. please check the board scans if you want.
Is this the mod chip and installation method you use on the consoles you sell on your website?
yes.
@@sthetixofficial I can’t wait to get my oled I purchased off you, I have a v1 unpatched that I’ve modded also using your hats pack
El punto B que se usa en esta video, es el mismo que se una en la parte de abajo de la placa?
it is the same.
I was wondering why you used a grinder to expose the B point track, unlike in your V6 OLED video where you used the B point which is already exposed?
because in this video, i did not remove the board from the chassis and the alternative B point is at the top of the board
So about this interference when using the FPC cables: How does this manifest on a switch? Blue screen? Hekate exception ? It just doesnt boot? I installed about 6 chips with them, all working fine for weeks. The seventh is a special one: Worked at first, then started to blue screen on boot. Removing the flex, letting it sit for few hours without power brought it back without blue screens. Reinstalled the flex, working again, after a few hours same problem, bluescreen on HOS boot, blackscreen after AMS logo and no boot. Removed the flex again, and it came back. Any idea? I probably just fked up the solder or flex is faulty, isnt it? E: Points were all good, chip was working all the time, eMMC is fine too.
most of the issue is it cannot boot to the ofw.
Intermittent unreliability due to thermal expansion cycles. Just use wires. The CPU flex is ok but the rest should be wired directly.

which solder paste did you use?
the stirri v3 or the amtech nc 3
Where did you buy your hakko fx-951 soldering station?
from aliexpress about 10 years ago
@@sthetixofficial do they sell originals there? If so can you provide a link to a legit one?
I think you better buy it from Amazon or from the Taobao. Most Hakko products in aliexpress are fake.
I discovered that with firmware 2.0 Instinct NX V6S loads OFW after working in the dock. stations.
If the firmware is 1.3, OFW loading occurs less frequently.
What is the most current and stable firmware now?
When loading OWF led blink:
1) red light flashing 5 times,
2) purple - 1 time
3) blue - 3 times.
Why?
The problem was that the wires were long. They should be made no longer by 2-3 cm, as shown in the video.

from the center of the resistor the dat0 is 1 mm right?boss

Is it worth doing the kamikaze method? How long on average until the dat0 adapter will oxidize if that method is used instead?
it is worth. there is no specific day when the dat0 oxidize, it could be months to years.
I see, can we solder the exposed dat0 point as normal and omit the solder paste?
yes
@@sthetixofficial Thank you, one final question: would a Dremel pen bit with a working diameter of 0.5mm be small enough?

Hello @sthetixofficial I did It but when I put on my console and after training process, v6s have led light Blue and doesn't open instinct page but NORMAL page. I have checked all value in diode mode and was ok. What's wrong?
What chip did you use?

Try using other chip or check the signal / solder pads connectivity
I have the same issue, all values read good, but still it goes to OFW@@sthetixofficial
@@sthetixofficial now it works. thanks a lot
electric grinder is a horrible idea. just destroyed my board.
Also are they changing the clk point on new boards or something? Mine is shaped completely differently.
practice makes perfect and the point location is fixed.
