The other day my new girlfriend said to me: thank you for this wonderful evening. I faked Mato's voice and replied: Mmmm... Is it.. really for free?
LOL. You are funny. Thank you for your comment.
MatoJelic mato your videos are amazing could you make a series of A alekhine games please??
and your girlfriend would say (in Mato accent) : Bye for now !
aryan galaxy Alekhine Playlist is on the menu in 2015. There will be at least 30 of his games
you are the best thank you
An uncastled King against Tal, usually not the best approach.
Randy Bailin but I think the castled one is worse :)
neither is castled XD
the king was the only thing he could see. he had an affinity for opponent king
"Killah Move!" - Mato Jelic
Sweet commentary, It had a feel like I was in a warm European pub with smoking chimney fire during a blizzard. subscribed
I've been able to get the 'critical moves' correct on so many videos, I just don't know the logic behind it! Great videos Mato. You are now my unofficial Chess coach thanks to your brilliant videos.
Thank you for your compliment.
He is an artist.. The ever best of his kind !
I Love to hear " hi this is mato "
I get goose bumps that we gonna see some brilliant game
This is unbelievable... truly
I have seen this game before but it remains an awesome, awesome display of triumphant chess proficiency...if such a thing exists. Wonderful. Thanks Mato.
I don't know if I see a magician. However he has my biggest respect amongst all modern chess players, especially the recent ones. After all, with era of computer chess the aggression has decreased badly. Players play more positionally, we have so many draws...
love the way Mato says maniac towards the end of the video lol
Wow this has to be one of the most interesting games I've seen
Riga and the world should be proud of Tal
13...Qxe5! 14.Bxb5 axb5 15.Rhe1 h5 16.Qh4 Qc5 17.Rxe6+ Kf7 18.Rde1 Qc4 black is fighting back
You seem very knowledgable Mato ! What is your Elo ?
BTW Great videos!
Tal's moves were anything but natural.
Wonderful game!!!! btw. Who find that killer move?
13...Qxe5!
Awesome!
Bxf6
"Is Tal A Magician or An Attacking Maniac?" Considering his career and his results (+4 -2 =5 against Fischer!!!), I have no doubts :-) Thank you for your videos Mato!
I saw the killa move but not the follow up nor even the B mate....of course it's Tal,what sack opens up the king's position?
I saw it , even what will happen after that!
The one dislike was the guy who lost this game.
I imagine that the difference between magician and maniac would be whether you win or not... making Tal a magician
Don't pause, just watch this, haha =)
You are awesome xD
GranMASTER's games are MASTERpieces!
Tal's magic is that he forces his agenda on the opponent. You don't play as you want when you're playing Tal. You must play his rules, and you can only hope that his sacrifices backfire at some point, but make one mistake and you're technically dead.
Tal was frm anothr planet. He was a martian who jus came to spend a vacation here.
Pure Tal!
wait if queen moved to h5 instead of g4, wouldn't that be good for white?
Magical attacking maniac :)
I never have seen a Tal's game where he is defending.
Look at the one against Fischer
+Tal G Yeah, there he was defending extremely well!
Tal was very irritating for his opponents. Very unpredictable & dangerous. When I watched Tal's move I started laughing not bcoz of his moves but I can imagine his opponents frustration.
A Magician !!
mato where are you from?
I found the move immediately even though mato said not to pause. all I had to do was think "what move makes absolutely no sense to me but is really aggressive?" and I saw it. highlight of my day.
Interesting...
Same here. Although I didn't pause, I knew the next move would be the one that would make no sense to me.
tal always sacrifices the knight xD
That's how I find the killer moves in videos about Tal.
same here
People will probably disagree with me, but I think Tal was the greatest ever.
The best thing about him is that he didnt settle for the good move, he was always looking for the brilliant one, and is that condition what make his play so admirable!
Jean Reno That's just it, almost every one of Tal's recorded games has a brilliant, inspiring combination. Today a lot of chess has to do with studying theory. While that's important, I'm of the opinion that studying openings into the 17th move (!) takes away from the spirit of the game. Tal embodied the spirit of chess like no other.
Federico Abraham iiikkk
The problem is people weren't making the best moves against his sacrifices. Chess masters like Paul Keres, who was extremely precise, tended to always beat Tal who was too aggressive.
@@AkshaySinghJamwalor every recorded game you hear about... The ones that didn't work don't come up often
"We have reached a critical position in the game..white to play killa move...and please don't pause, its very hard to find that move" :D :D You rock Mato
At the people saying they found the killer move in two seconds or with their eyes closed. You would have NO idea what to do next. You only guessed (correctly) what the move was and that's only because Mato said there is a killer move. Even then, you would still have no idea how to continue the attack
Exactly, I guess the move too Nxe6.. but I'm not sure how I'd have continued.. lol
Well, Mato said guess the killer move. So it had to be a sacrifice. I only saw two possible sacrifices, this being the "more logical" one. The deduction is obvious but only when asked to find a sacrifice. Nobody here would find this move in a normal game. I paused the game myself, thought about the move in question, and had no idea how to make any kind of attack out of it. Should have known it would involve like three sacrifices, not one.
I think the genius is not just finding some magical move. It's actually playing out the sequence in your head. Who would even think to do that sacrifice and not just go "Skip" in their head at the first move in the sequence? To think about it as an actual possibility and think it through to its conclusion?
And on top of that, planning for the sacrifice and placing the key pieces into their positions so he can actually go for the kill. Such as the rook. This sacrifice was many moves in the making prior to the knight move.
@@briankarcher8338 That's just like you said it was. Tal saw not just the victim but the whole combination. Kasparov once said: "Tal did not justify the combinations, Tal saw it!"
Perhaps talk also had no idea , or only vague idea
He is like the Mike Tyson of chess, always seeking a knockout in the first round.
Tal actually typically uses standard openings by the book. Doesn't usually do anything weird or crazy until the beginning of the mid game.
I'm starting to think Tal is the most brilliant player ever, because his moves are unpredictable yet strong.
What about Fischer, Kasparov, Carlsen, Karpov, Anand...
Evelyn Cecilia yes what about them? They are brilliant chess players and perhaps greater in stature as chess player than any other player but they do not have the style of Tal in playing chess which make him different from the rest. Imagine he even defeated Fischer in many of their games with moves which is like chess tricks or magic.
Yeah I agree. Other grandmasters played like a computer. That is something not creative. I believe Tal is the most brilliant GM.
@@karloabutay1963 Bobby Fischer came to hate how chess evolved into memorizing theory, etc. He wanted badly to transition competitively chess to focus more on creativity and 'thinking on your feet'.
After watching this again, I believe Tal is not human, he is the next stage of evolution, a super-human.
Tal is definitely not human looool damn!!!
Imagine tal playing chess960, he would be God without opening theory!
A beautiful mind!!!
Tal would lose against Carlsen but not because of opening theory, but because Carsen choses openings, like Giuoco Piano, that already when Tal played suited a tactical player badly. It isn't opening theory that has advanced and made players like Tal "obsolete", its middle/endgame theory (Middlegame is where Tal won his games). Fisher Random doesn't solve this, because that theory still applies in Fisher Random and Tal would still get crushed.
Is Tal even human!
+Shea Soares Humaniac :)
Bob Ajaj :))
They all aren't.
May b Alien, who liked chess on arrival to earth n stayed 😁😁
tal was like the honey badger of chess
Fantastic comparison....LOL!
Couldn't agree more my friend! You can only imagine the pressure sitting in the opposite chair, where every move has hidden danger. Only the very best could withstand that sort of mental pressure.
A wonderful player, and a delight to watch a man who loved chess for the joy of playing.
The best way to guess Tal's move is to imagine the most non-sensical move!!!
Hi Mato! I wanted you to know that I started playing chess three years ago, because my beloved partner plays, and he immediately introduced me to your channel, and the Tal vs. Fischer "Absolutely Fantastic Chess Game". I was totally mesmerized, and also really enjoyed your very instructive and entertaining narration. I have been watching your Tal videos ever since, and am understanding his thinking a bit more all the time. Tal's play is fascinating, creative, aggressive, and often brilliant. And your narration of his play is rich with enthusiasm and vitality. This makes your Tal videos especially compelling. Please make more Tal videos Mato! :)
didn't wait, got the move,I must be a maniac because Tal is a genius! !!!!
Tal is both a magician AND an attacking maniac! Wonderful game, thank you for your videos Mato they are always a joy to watch.

Magical attacking maniac?
haha, i checked to see who that NN was. turns out that fella always loses to everybody. But hey, must be very lucky to lose but keep playing with big shots!
Fischer could dismount the powerful Soviet chess school, but he can't vs Tal and Geller. Why? In my opinion pure modern chess, and a lot of theory. Geller is a sample, but Tal was a lot more stronger given his natural talent to play chess. Even the strongest chess player on the planet (ergo Fischer) was unable to defeat the pure substance of the Soviet chess. Just it was impossible!
Pedro Fernandez agree
+Pedro Fernandez how old was fischer when Tal bit him?
+Steven People does not know that Fischer was kid when he lost against Tal.
Certainly he was a kid. In fact I think that Alekhine and Fischer were the strongest chess players in all the chess history.
+Jsroslav Hus age is nothing in chess.
Tal was frm anothr planet. He was a martian who jus came to spend a vacation here.
To be unknown in the match against Tal is good hehehe ..But against Polugaevsky it was pretty hard to win with his famous unsound sacrifices ...All in all Misha was a genius but for me Bobby was and still is best chess player ever ...
Bobby was also a great sportsman and gentleman ....this is confirmed at Curacao tournament 1962 when he visited sick Tal at hospital and played few games with him while his Soviet colleagues did not care much for Tal ...This gesture touched Tal deeply ...
It's official... Tal is The Doctor
13.Rd8 is 3rd best move in the position in this variation. Best moves are 13. Nxb5 and 13. Qxe5.
I think that Tal's choice would be 13. Qxe5
Many games are emailed to me by subscribers.
Games by famous players like Tal, Capablanca and Kasparov have priority.
I was reading book after book, after book and now I am reading my third book.
Just kidding. I read four books.
13...Qxe5! 14.Bxb5 axb5 15.Rhe1 h5 16.Qh4 Qc5 17.Rxe6+ Kf7 18.Rde1 Qc4 black is fighting back
If I say black is doing fine that could mean that black is equal or maybe slightly better.
it would be so cool if Tal had really predicted that far
My Gosh, this is multi super extra brilliant. Great performance.
This guy is to"Tal"ly out of control.
Only one person can stop Tal; Alexander Koblencs!!! Tal's teacher... :D :D :D :D :D When I watched this match between Tal and Koblencs! It was crazy!! :D :D Thanks Mato for sharing these videos, you're awesome! I love watching ur chess lessons. Thank u so much...
we dont know how Tal was played...but Mato ur explanation is amazing...Every Tals move is brilliant....
Watch the playlist: Learn from Bobby Fischer's games
Amazing final, four sacrifices in a row!
Every genius is called crazy, because the majority missed something the genius didn't. Followed by: "How could he find this, he must be crazy." The truth: "How could he find this, I'm stupid?" is more realistic. It's a video out there.. the life and chess of Mikhail Tal.
Well,
I paused the video (even you asked not to do:)), the reason I did that is because I play Sicilian-Najdorf myself and I wanted to see how Tall will end up this game,
I had many scenarios in mind including (N X e6) but the continuation of (Qg4) never crossed in my mind.
Unfortunately, calculations like this can not be applied to 05 or 10 minutes game:),
Thanks Mato,
They say there are more possibilities of chess moves than there are number of atoms in the observable universe. Tal made moves that are out of this world, that man not human....
I can tell you that that can not possibly be true
Matt Paulk So would you believe that there are less than 10^80 atoms in the observable universe ?
Well i couldn't digest that either .
But it is TRULY a big number.
The amount of cells in your body is an unfathomable number and there's like trillions of atoms that make up each of those cells so in the observable universe the number would be outrageous
Matt Paulk
Haha no
Did you know if you fold a paper (the normal A4 sheet of paper)
50 times you would reach the sun
THE SUN (149.6 mil Kms away)
Folding it in halves
Now exponents is something which is quite fascinating.
While folding the exponent power is of 2 .
Imagine what the power of 10 can do..
No what? That's an absolute fact. You're already on the Internet just look it up. There's an estimated 37 trillion cells in the average adult human body. And there's over 100 trillion atoms in each cell. Also that example you have can NEVER happen nor does it have anything at all to do with anything. Yes I've heard of it. How's about you try to fold that paper 50 times and see where it gets you haha.
Yeah mato we can find it ;) took 3 seconds to find, 25 seconds to know why.... Thanks for your amazing videos, its appreciated very much!
by the way in what store can we find this book you take your examples from?
Yea I thought that as well, but the thing with Tal's sacrifices is that most of the time you are force to take it. Either its check and only option is to take or he has crazy position afterwards if you don't.
burn the witch! Seriously, I'm halfway decent at chess, but these moves are crazy. 1950 ELO and I can't even see 10% of them.
Mato and Tal combination has produced very entertaining chess. One explains brilliantly the other plays brilliantly.
Tal uses magic to maniacally attack because otherwise a chess player can not mate the King and win . He will be savagely attacked by a ferocious opponent when given the chance or opportuniy just like in any other battle .It's hard to win in chess when you just tickle your opponent with weak & obvious moves !
Tal will sacrifice a piece to create a block or to move opponents pawn out of the way. This is his secret.
Except for his bishop sacrifice to pawn. The rook could be moved without the sacrifice. But, It shifted
his opponents focus to think he had stopped Tal's offense. Tal gains advantage through subterfuge.
Tal plays two games. One is his game. The other is the game he wants his opponent to think is his game.
Tal was just simply brutal.
Yes, he was a magician.
Yes, he was an attacking maniac.
But in this, he was just simply a blunt instrument, one blow after another.
No, his attacks were not always sound - but you had to prove otherwise within 90 minutes.
Why he was not World Champion for his entire career, I'll never understand.
For me the reason why tal is the strongest is because he's not a scripted player like 99% of the top grandmasters from the past up to now. Sometimes when I watch carlsen, wesley so, and etc. is its like a by the book match. So for me this makes chess a whole new game.
Hvala. Sretan Uskrs
Yes I have, please check my Channel
Tal was clearly attacking maniac and in Mato's spirit I am just kidding, he was a magician!!:)
I've been watching all types of great games from amazing players, but this stands out a cut above the rest. This is BREATHTAKING chess!
Tal is a magician attacking maniac salute!
This is one of my favorite games from Tal. The other guy didn't know what hit him.
Topalov is also said to be an aggressive or attacking- player but, can^t compare him or other nowadays players to Tal or Fischer, chess game was played more creatively in old days and they were more gifted , in london chess classic 2015 I saw most of the games they were boring, lacking creativity, most of the games were drawn, I suggest, instead of 1 point one win may be 2 points, draw 0.5 loss 0
sounds good, nowadays the romantic chess has gone, you know pawn structure, castle first an so on...that doesn't matter, you win the game mating your apponent...
+eren desteli that is a trend everything is taking in the world, thanks to technology
Absolutely brilliant. That was such a clever move, magician
Thank you for your comment
Hi Mato, I have the impression that Tal, more than any other chess player, makes you crazy, is it so?? Tal, for me, is pure poetry, his moves are like music.. you have the impression that his pieces dance on the chessboard, having fun… just an artist
He was definitely not a magician but I won't call him a Maniac either.
Thank you for your comment
Thank you for your comment
That is a piece of art! MAGNIFIQUE!
Tal was a gentleman; He gave his opponent one final meal before execution.
I forgot it too.
Thank you Ashish
