    • @unrealnews
      @unrealnews 3 месяца назад +7

      Correct. That's the part that hits the hardest. It's a prank show, but reveals deep sincerity. Had he said "No" or "Yes", the definitiveness of his answer would "go with the grain" of a prank and be therefore unfunny. Brilliant stuff. Well spotted. Like and owl. Or dick. Or a walrus. No, walrus doesn't work.

      I think that's what made it so funny for me. When I first saw this, I was like yeah that's exactly how I would feel in 50 pounds of prosthetics. Tim Robinson just has the absolute best way to express what would otherwise be a normal thing. "Ugh I'm feeling claustrophobic in all this makeup" becomes "there's too much fuckin shit on me." I have dealt with major depressive disorder throughout my life and you are 100% correct. It blew me away how authentic he made it. It’s exactly the kind of semi-ambiguous wording that us depressed people use, in an attempt to not completely alarm their friend but at the same time somehow communicate to them you are in a really bad place and need help. Most sketch shows would have probably written it in the skit as “I don’t want to be alive anymore”, or “I can’t do this anymore” and it’s the small attention to detail with respect to emotional authenticity that is so amazing.
      If they had cast anyone else on earth for that line this skit would not have worked at all.

    The part that kills me every time is imagining this scene from the perspective of the mall-goers. Without the context of hearing or knowing about the crew in the trailer outside.
    Just witnessing a stranger in an obvious old man mask walk into the middle of a food court and descend into insanity and sadness completely unprompted. And they'll never get any closure of why this happened.
    It's beautiful.

      “I’m carrying way too much sh on me” sound like he’s got weapons
      “I’m so hot” sounds like he’s angry
      “I can’t do this” sounds like he’s amping himself up to do something horrific
      “I’m gonna rip the fkn head off” hahah terrifying
      “It kills, yeah it actually does kill” again, terrifying without context
      “Explain why it’s funny, is it because she’s alone”. Bruh….he turns to the girl and says that. After everything he’s said. TERRIFYING!
      I actually don’t know if they intended for it to be funny in this way but it’s the funniest part

    I was in a recent car accident and suffered a pretty bad head injury. The passed couple of days the effects of my concussion started to subside, and my head was starting to hurt less and less. I came across this episode on Netflix and when the words “I don’t don’t even wanna be around anymore” came out of Tim’s mouth I started laughing so hard that the pressure in my head increased and I was in severe pain but I couldn’t stop laughing throughout the entire rest of the sketch and I mean I was BALLING laughing. Tears practically shooting out of my tear ducts and my head is in more pain still than it was just after the accident but it was seriously worth it because that shit is the funniest thing I’ve seen in probably a decade. Wow. So simple and so impactful. What an art.

The driver's ed skit where he says "I can't know how to hear anymore about tables!" is another great example. I wonder if it is cause even though he and Zach write these skits out, there is probably a good deal of improvising , and sometimes the slightly off stuff is just funnier

    I think the legitimately brilliant aspect of I Think You Should Leave is the sense of empathy that Tim brings to the characters. They don't feel clownish or stupid; you can see their motivations, even if they're bizarre. If you've felt awkward at a party (or in public), or if some random bit of bullshit was the last straw for you, you can grasp where these characters are coming from. They're wounded people, they're asinine people, they're people you'd never want to interact with, but fundamentally they're still people.
    This is where Tim Robinson succeeds while Saturday Night Live has failed for the last decade.
