Hi Ted. There is some excellent advice in this video. 20 years ago when I was in my early 50s I started a career as a self-employed signwriter. Having been a school teacher I was happy to try and appear in front of the camera and did a number of videos on this niche subject. My client base expanded and my RUclips channel grew to over 16,000 followers. I also did a few videos about starting up the business as an independent signwriter. I know there were better sign writers than me, but I know I was better than the person behind a bar or who owned the shop. That was all I needed to know. You use the word ‘reliable’ many times in this video and I totally agree. In fact, being virtuous, that is reliable, honest, consistent, is not only good for the soul it is also good business. I am now 70 years old and I’ve been retired for five years but any project I undertake still is guided by these principles. I really like your channel and now I must put a few days by and visit more of your videos. Thanks for the effort. Btw I am a bit of a gadget freak and in my later life I realise I have returned to the mentality of my childhood and every day seems to be full of play.
John! Best note ever. I’m turning 51 soon so I struggle with trying to earn a living with this RUclips jazz and wondering if its worth the massive amount of work. When it resonates with people and creates a connection like this, wow. This is the currency right here. And I TOTALLY understand about becoming a gadget freak. Gadgets have gotten sooooo much more capable but also much easier to use, to use well,….and enjoy the creative process while using the tech. The gadgets don’t get in the way anymore. They just do their job. Of course I’m generalizing, but I think you smell what I’m cookin. John I’m excited you’re part of the channel. Love this video and I started this year by making a commitment to doing a video per week on RUclips. After I got licensed I was very sporadic with my videos and never found the time to fly. Now I make a consistent effort to fly, film with my GoPro or both. But there's always something in the "can" to edit for the next week. So I'm excited every week now for what I'm going to do next! Putting in place all the other steps you provide is what I need to focus on next!

"Find a mentor". Done, he's an interesting guy with a varied, international career progression. I believe he grew up on the east coast, NYC perhaps. Comes from a family of cinematographers. He's a natural teacher and seems to be a good guy, a good human. I too have an international career and will soon be retiring to SE Asia. I've not had the pleasure of meeting my mentor, but perhaps our paths will cross some day, maybe in some exotic, tropical corner of the world. 😉

Dude you should definitely turn this into a full-fledged master class in parts of each of the steps! This is something that I'm really interested on. I'm working on getting my RPA (remote piloted aircraft) license very soon.

But it takes a solid like 3 to 4 months of working on it full time to make a true, valuable masterclass that I think is worth peoples time & money. I just can’t take the time off RUclips right now. Getting licensed is a big deal and sets you apart. It also will teach you how to not make the feds come after you. For travelling and filming in Europe, you might want to add an EASA A2 certificate to your FAA Part 107. Great great tips there, thanks once again for your work, Ted!

@@TedNemeth it is not my main priority to find a lucrative niche actually. Golf resorts maybe as we have many of them in the rich Bavaria, Germany. They have poor contents on their website, social media channels…cause they do not need it yet.
Your tips are powerful. I believe if you have passion on your drone and editing you will keep want to improve yourself so that you can deliver best final product to your client and indirectly build better portfolio for yourself. Better portfolio will open more opportunities for yourself to get more clients. Of course also need to follow your 6 plan strictly 😄

Hi Ted I learnt my photograph in the British Army (Easier to teach snipers to take photos, than for photographers to learn how to hide in plan sight) So my photos are Technically spot on, but artistically crap. the exposure algorithm in the Mini 2 is really good. As long as you fly slow and in the mornings/late afternoon, a filter is not needed in most cases. Flying during the bright sunny mid day then a filter + auto exposure work well.
Hi Ted, I stumbled on your channel looking into a Mini 3 and boy how entertaining mate. Subscribed! I was wondering have you flown the Mini with goggles? The reason I ask is because I've the idea that it's easier to avoid obstacles that way. I don't have them but that is one of the reasons I would opt for a Mini3 Pro and not for the Mini3. How're you thoughts on this?

Hi Ted, im really enjoying your videos, ive bought a drone, or should i say a ( flying camera ). My drone arrives tomorrow, i have taken your recommendation and bought a DJI MINI 3 PRO , Again on your advice ive bought a small pack of ND filters, i will experiment with ND 16, 32 and 64 in auto exposure mode, we spend a lot of time in North Wales that has the stunning Snowdonia national park and some fabulous coastal scenery and beeches, especially on the isle of Angelsey. So i am really looking forward to using and learning to fly my new DJI Mini. My question is what software would you recommend for editing video. I have used Light Room Classic before for editing still pictures, but find it hard going. Im looking for some software that is abit easier going. Please Help. Thanks in advance. hey Neil! Congratulations on your new career. Success is yours. It just takes consistency over time. Prices for videography vary drastically from town to town so I couldn’t give you a range. The best advice is to see if you can work with a local video production company. Even if its only part time or even an unpaid internship. It’s priceless to learn from established professionals.

I have used Light Room Classic before for editing still pictures, but find it hard going. Im looking for some software that is abit easier going. Please Help. Thanks in advance. I use LUMAFUSION to do all my editing. I absolutely love it.
@@TedNemeth Hi Ted, thanks for the reply, i will download LUMAFUSION and give it a go, my dji mini 3 has arrived, ive just got home form work and i am like a dog with a tin dick im that excited to give it a go, just charging uo the battery and downloading the app as we speak, should i do a you tube blog of how useless iam at flying it. hey Neil! Congratulations on your new career. Success is yours. It just takes consistency over time. Prices for videography vary drastically from town to town so I couldn’t give you a range. The best advice is to see if you can work with a local video production company. Even if its only part time or even an unpaid internship. It’s priceless to learn from established professionals.
