    I now think there is a 'Higher Life Form' for real. I went to bed last night with the question, "I wonder if there is software out there that can make 3D maps from my own computer?" For whatever reason, you're on my RUclips feed with 'this' video. I give a listen and my eyes bulged from my head when you said M1 Mac. I was so expecting some Window's based solution because that happens all the time. After listening to this video, all I need is WebODM...I have the rest. I just ran my first DroneLink mapping mission yesterday(not a real job) but have no clue what to do with the images. I can't wait to dive in and learn. Thanks so much and of course I Subscribed.

      Glad the video was helpful for you. It's always good to hear that what I share here has value! Not only can you run WebODM, Metashape also runs on the Mac M1's. If you're using one of the basic Mac Mini M1 keep in mind you'll be running small models fine, but as you look toward larger models it may take more time. If you're just learning, small models are fine.

      I have a MacBook Pro M1 with a 1TB SSD and 16GB of RAM. Currently processing a 426 image map of a small island… after 30 minutes a little green bar hasn’t moved. I’ll let you know how it works out.

      @@AZ-Drone I gave up, I stopped the process. I did pick the higher resolution and that’s not working. I reprocessed the images from something like 5,500+px on the long end to 2,000px. Let’s see how that goes. Thanks for the follow-up.

    16g ram ballistix 3200mhz
    Igame nvidia rtx 3060ti ultra oc
    500g samsung 870 nmve m.2
    2tb hdd
    650watt power supply ( a bit low wattage for my gpu but does the job)
    Use davinci resolve studio,
    Adobe photoshop, lightroom and premier pro ( davinci is better only have pp because I have the student pack)
    Used trial versions of most mapping software will be trying webodm soon.
    Cost of pc not including software is $2050 about 18 months ago I did well on the gpu price as they were only starting to get out of hand in the price at that time although I even did really well considering that.

    Excellent video. I, too, use many photogrammetry software you mentioned. I recently came across ODM.
    I visit a lot of battlefields where they don't allow drone flights. Likewise, I use a handheld camera and on a telescopic stick to get my images. WebODM has a great GCP tool that allows me to submit with my images and I can get my model placements. Still working out the best setting for that setup. Just start with in the past two weeks. Mine is a web interface, so it acts like Pix4d. I can be in the road and upload my images, traveling to my next subject. .. :)

      While I use photogrammetry in my business, I also use it for fun. Creating models is a lot of fun. I'd enjoy seeing your battlefield models, that sounds like a really interesting use for photogrammetry!

    Hey Rich, can you suggest me a cheap option for a drone, i need a drone that can take measures of buildings, house.

    • @AZ-Drone
      @AZ-Drone  Год назад

      Suggesting drones these days is becoming difficult. We recently got the Mavic 3E for mapping and modeling. It can be very accurate when creating maps / models that need a high level of accuracy. The Mavic 3 Pro, and most of that lineup won't offer the level of accuracy you need for measurement. It seems to me that if you're wanting accurate measurements your starting point would be the Mavic 3 Enterprise RTK setup. And it isn't a cheap solution unfortunately.

    Hi Rich, I know you've probably answered this question in other places but I haven't been able to find it. I'm aware that the smart controller is not ideal as the support is limited, but I'm looking to make use of my current kit for mapping and have the Mavic 2 pro and the Smart controller. What software or apps would you recommend or is it even possible?

    • @AZ-Drone
      @AZ-Drone  Год назад +2

      Unfortunately I don't have any experience with the Smart Controller for the Mavic 2 Pro. Looking through the 3rd part app developers is one way to find out if you can use their app with the controller. I checked Map Pilot Pro and it's a no. I checked Drone Harmony and it looks like a no as well. I did come across a video on the topic. ruclips.net/video/oPZ63kVl8_A/видео.html
      Sorry I'm not more helpful on this one. I'd suggest going to the developer sites and seeing their supported drones lists. Could you get the standard controller online?

    • @seamydobbsno1
      @seamydobbsno1 Год назад

      @Rich Charpentier Thabks appreciate the feedback. Yeah getting my hands on a mavic 2 controller seems to be the simplest solution. The smart controller is such a brilliant all in one device with a beautiful display, it seems so strange the left It behind.

      Sorry for my delay in response, I've been away due to health reasons, but back now! You should be able to use several modeling apps on your laptop. You've got data collection covered with your Skydio. I would suggest testing out modeling apps on your laptop before committing to one platform or other.

    • @AZ-Drone
      @AZ-Drone  Год назад +1

      How we share data with clients depends on what they'd like. We've had some who want everything we captured on Drop Box or other shared drives. Often customers don't know what they want so we create custom presentations for them. You can see examples on our custom webpage building class classes.azdrone.net/p/custom-drone-deliverable-web-pages-for-your-clients

    I’m flying 2-3 FPV and mavic gigs a week. I want to add mapping as an option. I’m struggling to get an app for the automated flight to work well. I have the dji smart controller which limits everything. Is a regular dji controller suggested so you can use any app with it?

    • @AZ-Drone
      @AZ-Drone  Год назад

      The controller that I'm using came with my Mavic 2 Pro. There are many 3rd party apps that work with that controller. Not sure what other drones that controller might work with. I'd heard that the smart controller had some issues with 3rd party apps.

    • @Shauny_D
      @Shauny_D Год назад

      @@AZ-Drone Yah the smart controller was a huge pain with other apps most don’t work or are too unreliable to use. Shoot even djis own apps had issues. The smart controller doesn’t have enough power to handle them.

    what's the cheapest useful small drone for aerial photos over my 20 acres ranch?
    I already have a basemap but it's dated so thinking of replacing it with the newer pics. I was thinking of the mini dji3 but it seems an overkill. Thanks

      Sorry for my delay in response. I read your comment the other day and found myself unsure. I'm running Mavic 2 Pros at the moment and haven't watched the new drone releases closely. The new DJI Mini 3 looks pretty interesting to me, and what I've read and watched has actually made me interested in getting one down the road. Do you want to do mapping / modeling of your ranch, or do you just want to do standard aerial photos & video?

      Dji mini 2 and dronelink is what I use for automated flights. Processing is the only flaw in this, never have used Webodm but will give it a try. I use it for my civil firm to get updated aerials for small sites. I have the fly more kit so I can map about roughly 90-100 acres on 3 batteries. Typically, I can use 1 for ~30 acres.

      Unfortunately this channel isn't sponsored by any of the big drone makers out there. When a new drone comes into our business it was purchased by us to fulfill a business need. I wish I could afford to buy several other drones for my own curiosity and reviews, but my partner wouldn't be happy with unnecessary spending. If I were to start doing drone reviews across the broad spectrum of drones out there I'd spend a lot of money that isn't in our budget.
      There's more to different drones than their price point. Buyers need to have a good idea of what they want to do with their drones before spending the money on a new drone. With the way DJI has been breaking up their new drones into sub-categories it's very hard to find a "one size fits all" drone.

    • @kineticraft6977
      @kineticraft6977 3 месяца назад

      One thing I’d certainly draw attention to is if you’re looking at DJI drones, they seem to have stopped releasing the SDKs for the non-enterprise models. This means that mini 4 pro, air 3 etc cannot be used with the really nice mapping service apps that rely on the app controlling the drone. You will be stuck using the really bad DJI waypoints or manually controlling the drone for the whole flight. There’s a workaround using a waypoint generator website but it’s nowhere as good.

    Rich, do you have a class or video pertaining to the Marketing of your Drone Biz and the model you use to do that? Getting a system, drone, certification, etc is the beginning, but if u build it you have to be able to get clients "to come!" This is my toughest segment to crack. Thanks.

    • @AZ-Drone
      @AZ-Drone  2 года назад +3

      Ah one of the toughest topics out there for drone operators. Unfortunately I don't have a class on RUclips on this one. Back in 2017 I began building my AZDrone.net website. As I acquired new skills I updated them on AZ Drone. I'd do training flights, modeling testing, etc as updated the website often. The further I got into the construction modeling side of things I made sure to have information on the website. And as the website had more content added, the more often I'd have contacts via the website. Most of my regular clients found me through the website. These days I receive referrals from clients, and I still get contacts through the website as well.
      Just yesterday I was contacted about another construction location through the website contact. I went out to scout the location this morning. I'm now waiting to hear back from the client on when we could meet in person to discuss their project and look over the site.
      Bottom line for me? It was a slow start. 2017 - 2018 website building and learning new skills went hand in hand. And since then I've been working from referrals and website contacts. I'm sure if I was better at Internet marketing the growth would have happened faster.
