    I'm beyond disappointed that this isn't a hard top anymore. It's a huge mis-step on Mercedes part, imo. Should have had the soft top as an option, because no matter how good the noise isolation is, it'll never be as good as it would be with a hardtop. Super glad they added AWD though!

      I had this for a medium period time, got rid of it. The car doesn't know what it wants to be, it's uncomfortable on long journeys, has power but you really don't feel it. It's a strange mix between a luxury comfortable high end cruiser and an AMG for a race track. Did 10k miles on it, threw it away. Also it has problems with the roof, got some water coming in aswell. Porsche is on another level IMHO. It looks fantastic tho, outside aswell as inside, fantastic design really

      My biggest gripe is it's just too expensive for what it is. You should be able to get a sub 3 second 0-60 with the price point.. Also, the build quality and materials quality should be a little bit better as well.. The steering wheel centerpiece should be leather not plastic.
      I've owned Sl63 briefly and traded it for a much cheaper LC500 convertible and the build quality on LC is WAY better and you get a lot more leather and less plastic used.
      They need to bump the performance a hair and get rid of most of the plastics.

    • @sammy4538
      @sammy4538 Год назад

      Slapping a 200k pricetag on something, doesn't give quality... that depends more on the mechanical stuff. W124 was last Mercedes that was designed as good as possible, then counting the needed selling price based on the development and manufacturing costs - is why it cost 30% more than other cars in the same class. This - as other Mercs after it aswell - has been aimed at a certain price point, selling price was decided before the actual car even existed... they made this as good as possible for the given amount of time and money available, this time it meant crappy quality for example on the door panels.

      So...I am fortunate enough to own both the new SL 63 AMG and an older Porsche Turbo 911. I absolutely love Porsche and also have a Taycan Turbo which I will never part with. However, the SL 63 AMG is NOT more nimble that a Turbo, or any other Porsche. That having been said, at this stage of my life, its the SL 63 that is the car I want to drive. Both of these cars have handling, acceleration and precision which far exceeds the upper limits of what is sanely possible on American roads. So, for me, it is the comfort and related GT qualities which are paramount, and this is where the SL 63 outshines the Porsche. The MB is the superior cruiser - full stop. Panache is rather subjective - ride quality is not. MB SL 63 has both. And the car is as quiet with a soft top (if not quieter) than my hardtop Turbo 911. The soft top is that well engineered. If I was a younger man who still went to the track (Monticello mostly), it would be the Porsche all day long. But this new SL is special, not perfect, but special. It threads the needle of GT and supercar. It doesn't dominate either class, but blends these qualities perfectly. So, I would recommend the SL 63 over the Porsche for those who want great capabilities while cruising while keeping your chiropractor visits to a minimum.

The sound, well as you pointed out, 2020+ cars sound terrible now. I my opinion, two things will very much impact sales, the price is high and Trudeau's luxury tax will point people toward the used 911 Turbo market. Cheers boys!

    Really liked the review like always, to be fair tho, I would add that they’re actually coming back to what the SL should be rather than the contrary. The SL was originally a race car. It then became a luxury gran-tourer that was really appreciated, until the 2000s where it really really became quite boring and was really dying in mercedes’s lineup in the last 5 years. With this one, they are imo making the SL a not « 70 year old with a lot of money -only » car but a serious, great GT with driver’s car characteristics that deserve the SL name. Really impressive and shows the expertise of AMG and Mercedes in making the best comprise between sport and comfort. Love mercedes so probably biased but Anywayy, cheers, keep up the good stuff 👍🏼

    Had M8 coupe and considered the SL63 as it was coming out.
    The dealers wanted $15,000 (US) ADM markup at the time, pass.
    Ended up finding 2020 AMG GTR-Pro and got that instead :)

    Throughout history, the SL has always represented a glamorous lifestyle with its understated elegance. The car has lost all subtlety and discretion. It is the antithesis of what the SL and Mercedes-Benz used to represent, unfortunately. But it is certainly a desirable vehicle in its own right, just not one of the great SLs.

    I love the new one but it isn’t quite as special as the older one. We have a 2009 sl63 we have loved for the past few years it’s a really special car. We are about to put it up for sale and upgraded to a c63s because the new SL is too over the top for the Manitoba weather and how much we can drive it.
