MATT SMITH Discusses New THEOCRACY Album: "I'm ThankFul For The Opportunity Of Releasing It"

- Formed in 2002 to spread their majestic metal in the likes of Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, and Symphony X, Theocracy released four critically acclaimed studio albums, building a loyal fanbase as well. For more than 20 years, Matt Smith has been pouring his life blood into Theocracy, creating a legacy and back catalog that grants him a safe space to breathe and develop his vision.
Seven years ago, Theocracy came out with their tour de force album, "Ghost Ship". It’s filled with punch and hooks. And per usual, it’s a record about faith and its many aspects.
And then…nothing. For seven long years. Perhaps that was the biblical seven years of famine. But that time is at an end. The new Theocracy album called "Mosaic" will be out on October 13 via Atomic Fire Records.
As brilliantly showcased by its stained-glass-window-like artwork by Steven Howard, “Mosaic” contains 10 new hymns were recorded, produced, and mixed by Matt Smith at Theocracized Studios and Full Moon Studios in Athens, GA, and rounded off by skillful mastering engineers Emily Lazar and Chris Allgood at The Lodge, NY.
"It's my life's work," says Smith when talking about the band. "All I wanted to do since I was a kid was writing songs, so Theocracy existed in my mind for many years before the first album. It's the vehicle that has taken me all around the world and allowed me to exceed my wildest dreams by getting my songs out, and I am so thankful."
Smitt recently sat down with Mark Boardman and the two discussed the inception of "Mosaic", the band's past, their arrival to a new label, the album's lyrical themes and much more.

I hope Matt realizes how he is touching people's hearts and helping bring people closer to God. This man has an amazing gift and it really means more than I think he realizes.
This new Theocracy album is a total banger in my opinion. I personally think it's their heaviest and best album so far. The vocals are through the roof, the guitars are amazing and the production is top notch (not to mention the bass guitar and drums kicks ass as well). Hats off and cheers to Theocracy 2023!
I got my copy yesterday from Amazon. I agree, it is their best album. I love Red Sea. Such an epic song on an epic album.

Thanks for the interview. That was very insightful.
Such a humble person, but he makes absolutely incredible songs. In the song 'Flicker' when he said "Trapped inside a world that buried Mozart in a pauper's grave" I really felt that one. Not just for him, but also for many other great artists.
I've still yet to hear the whole thing because I'm waiting on the CD to arrive so I can hear it in good quality for the first complet listen, lol. It's great to have someone so gifted use it the way he does.
Love how HEAVY the new album is...hopefully, with Atomic Fire providing the resources and support, we can expect more live shows in the US.
