- Jay chats with Matt Smith, the lead vocalist and founder of the Christian melodic metal band, Theocracy. Matt talks about how he started the band as a teenager to fulfill his desire to create his own Christ-centered music while highlighting his own musical influences and takes listeners/viewers behind the scenes of the band's highly-anticipated follow up to 2016's 'Ghost Ship' with their new epic album and fifth studio record, 'Mosaic', which will be available October 13th from Atomic Fire Records.

I just discovered Theocracy and I've shared links to friends and family. It's so great to hear Christians playing at this level. Seventh Avenue was another great band also. Unfortunately disbanded, I hope Theocracy keeps plugging away.

I was originally a little concerned when it was announced Taylor Washington was going to be the new guitarist because I was such a fan of Val's playing style and I had no idea what what kind of guitarist Taylor was. I was blown away by his playing when I first saw the videos for Turn To Dust and Mosaic. He is actually better than Val! I was also concerned about Taylor coming from a band, which wasn't Christian, and not knowing if he was a Christian. I still haven't been able to find an answer to that question. Do you know if he is a Christian?

This new album is so awesome. Red Sea is amazing. I literally have been listening to all theocracy songs all day long at work nonstop since the albums release. I’ve been a metal head since youth and I love having Christian metal with a great message to keep me going during the day.

Theocracy have some great songs on their earlier albums but as a whole album I like this new album the best because the entire album is very heavy except the one ballad. I think that's also the case with the last five Stryper albums (which I like more than their 80's albums in my opinion). I love the heavier stuff. Great interview by the way ROCK ON!

Red Sea is a masterpiece!
New to the channel & subbed. Followed Theocracy loosely for 12 years. Love their Christmas songs and play them every year and throughout the year. Loving their new stuff more each time I listen. Thank you both, my brothers in Christ!!!!
Thank you Matt. I've been listening to Teocracy for about 12 years. The one thing I was able to "hear" was your humility.
It always sounded like a authentic service of love and hope... this is a charism (a supernatural gift to bless others with) and would not have been possible to do without a faith. On a more musical note; it's the proably best power metal out there.
I just heard about christian metal a few months ago. Was a metal fan in the eighties. Grew out of it. Stumbled on the christian metal scene and got wild enthousiastic about it. Theocracy is one of my favoutites. Now i have to catch up with all the works of these bands. Spotify is a good source for this. God bless.
Stryper is obviously the biggest and most well known, along with Petra and Whitecross, but there are many more. Theres even quite a roster of Christian Black Metal thats quite good, believe it or not! Just search on RUclips and youll be surprised at how much is out there.

Theocracy is one of three music groups/artists that I actively keep track of. One of the others I discovered through Project Aegis, another Matt Smith project. Theocracy has been a part of my life since 2012, ironically from one of their none faith based songs: “Frosty vs Rudolph.” Then I heard “I AM,” and then I was a lifelong fan.
Lyrically, the line "I don't belong here" got me glued to this album. I waited until The Red Sea to nail it biblically. Lia Fool or Messiah came just lately. Genre-wise "Sinsidious" caught me the most.
It is time for theocracy to come to the New York area.
Same here, I found out about them with Ghost Ship, now own e ery CD of them.
Theocracy's first album is a masterpiece. And 20 years later they produced another masterpiece. Energy, production, riffs, solos, vocals, lyrics... i love everything. Matt is a genius and a best vocalist!
