  • We have fun and learn lots when we list 20 items on eBay auctions each month! Enjoy cool Art Deco design, vintage ephemera, gorgeous glass and pottery, and the lessons these antiques have to teach as we review what sold in our latest listings.
    Things don't always go according to plan! A last-minute substitution, a misidentified designer, and an eBay cancellation are part of the story this time, and we talk about what we do when things go awry to make sure our collectors are satisfied. Satisfied they were!--18 of 20 items are now treasures in people's collections, teaching us that all comes out well when we're forthright about what we know (and what we don't).
    We're most grateful to our collector customers who appreciate these items enough to own them! We also thank our members for making these monthly listings and this extra informational video possible.

    Great video once again! I really enjoy your content & have been sharing it with all my fellow collectors. I will be signing up for a subscription here soon. A quick note... rather than say "hanging out with the slaves" it is more appropriate to say "hanging out with the enslaved people." The former is dehumanizing. These people, who were doctors, lawyers, authors, teachers, merchants, mothers, fathers, etc. who where stolen from their land and cruelly forced to be enslaved. I'm not trying to school you or anything, you are a very brilliant person, this is something I just learned myself in Ethics class and wanted to share the knowledge.

    Have you ever noticed that something in a group will look so cluttered, but single will stand out like a royal piece!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  20 дней назад +1

      True! At the same time, one item alone can look isolated, and a group of them cohesive. It's a fine line to balance those things when you're decorating with collections!

    George honest representation shows our character. I appreciate you. I have purchased from more than one well known RUclipsr’s and the items were not honestly represented. One would not respond to my inquiry either. Changed my impression of them and don’t trust them now. Very sad to say. Thank you for your integrity.

    I appreciate what you said about Joel Chandler Harris. We have been to Eatonton, Georgia where he had an office. He is definitely worth learning more about for both his writing (preserving of African folk stories) and his unpopular-at-the-time social activism.

    The Von Nessen is important, here, for two reasons. First, it exemplifies one of the pitfalls of ebay... precision is a must or cataclysm may follow. The smallest error can blow up into negative feedback (or worse... I was once threatened with legal action over the misidentification of cowhide instead of goatskin on a $75 vintage bomber jacket, even though I readily accepted /refunded the return).
    Second, and more importantly, it underscores your honesty, George. There is no more valuable asset one can possess. Especially when many customers/clients, if not most, depend upon your expertise. They don't necessarily know the back story of the objects and must trust you for this info. There are far too many dealers out there who are, for the most part, faking it. It does my heart good to find such as you... well rounded, well informed, honest as the day is long. The real deal. Thank you, George, for being you :)

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  24 дня назад +2

      Wow, a lawsuit, when you treated them right? Silly! People have to understand that even the greatest expert can be fooled sometimes. If we're striving for honest representation to the best of our knowledge, then I figure people usually will be forgiving and help us learn if we make a mistake, as long as we cop to it and deal with it fairly.
      At the same time, you're right that lots of the customers may not know what we do, so it's critical that we don't take them for a ride or just guess...they will eventually learn the truth, and then they can be soured on collecting. That helps no one in the business in the long-run.

      @@TheAntiqueNomad Well said, George :)
      The bad ebay experience definitely took me (and my 20 years of 100% positive feedback) by surprise. He actually thought I was a crook, running some kind of scam, and was out to take me down. Ebay found in my favor and removed his negative feedback. I had to point out to him that his slander of my good reputation was lawsuit worthy. He got his money back, I got my jacket back, he went away, life was good again.
      Thanks for being a such good guy, George, you set an awesome example :)
