Learn From Our Mistakes Selling Antiques & Vintage on eBay!

- We love sharing our triumphs and successes, but there's as much to be learned from our errors and shortfalls in this video! We review our recent eBay auction results in this episode, with two major money sales on the plus side, and a few well-earned lessons on the other side.
Why did someone buy our most expensive item for full price at the last minute? What is so strange and cool that it can't sell fast at auction? Who actually signed that thing? These are some of the questions we answer as we review sales of everything from Blenko glass and vintage jewelry to valuable posters and comics in this episode, showing how successful selling on eBay still can be.
But what about our failures? There's as much to learn from them, and we're not shy about talking about how oddball items (rabbit brains and rotating toothbrushes) may not find their collector in a short auction timeframe, why it's important to be sure your research is right on autographs and ephemera, and puzzle over that amazing Murano glass bowl that we somehow still own.
We appreciate so much our Level 2 & 3 members, who get to live chat during the premieres of these videos, and whose contributions make this bonus listing of items on eBay possible to share with everyone. If you want to live chat in this video's premiere and have first chance to bid in our next eBay listing video, check out the membership section in the description below. A big thank you to our Patreon supporters, too!

I literally tell everyone that the Antique Nomad is my favorite RUclipsr … the knowledge I’ve acquired in the past two years is unmeasurable…. Thank you George ❤
George do you think the Puccini piece would have gone with "murano" included in the description? Just wondering as the word "murano" seems to send everyone crazy! LOL Beautiful piece! Thanks for sharing with us!
Maybe if the Puccini had Murano in the listing it would have sold, if I was searching that’s the keyword I’d use
Yes that was an oversight you're right
You reminded me of the R. Crumb documentary watched again! Thanks George!
My sister-in-law has been collecting JJ for 20 years... I'll give her a heads up! Thanks, George, for the info!
ZAP! Gotta love it... read my first one at 15, way back in 1970. Shocking! LOL 😉
She'll have a nice surprise! Those psychedelic relics are really interesting to me
@@TheAntiqueNomad Psychedelic Relic... that's a description of me! If I start a band, someday, that would be a great name! The Psychedelic Relics... has a nice ring to it. ☺
Too late, a CT band already has it... bummer!
Learn something evey time. Thanks George.
Thank you! I'm glad you're having fun with all the content, I do too
My dad called it diseased... glass with that hazy look.
That pink glass piece is beautiful.
Such a glowing pink!
I've been a JJ fan since they were still in business. They did some really goofy stuff, including a guy in a trenchcoat that opened. (rated G when it did) The lady in the shower too - shower cap and all. Lots of kitties and doggies.
Yes! Some really fun things, I'll look for trenchcoat guy
Thank you again. I have always been a picker/reseller and am ready for the next level…online sales. You are so knowledgeable and encouraging. I appreciate you.
Thanks for all you share❤. So appreciate it❤
I'm so glad you do and thank you!
Broad knowledge and always such an eclectic mix. I love watching & learning!
For us, Yule is the Winter Solstice. I find that a few Polident tablets often does a great job on glass that isn’t coming bright with other methods.🖤🇨🇦
Not sure what polite T tablets are but maybe the same as efferent denture tablets, excellent for cleaning the inside of narrow top or filmy glass!
@@maureenfitzgerald1895 Auto correct strikes again lol. Polident tablets are an effervescent denture cleaner. The bigger the glass item, the more warm water and tablets you need. Don’t use on coloured coatings, it can lift them off, but actual coloured glass works great.🖤🇨🇦
I'm not sure if that "film" would be classed as "sick glass" or not, but most true "sick glass" is caused by the surface of the glass very, very slowly being attacked by moisture that slowly "leaches" infinitesimal quantities of the soda in the glass formula (speaking of typical silica-lime-soda glass which covers most tableware glass other than leaded glass) and that can create a faint haziness, dull whitish or grayish film, or in more extreme cases can progress until it looks like the iridescent "Benecia Glass" look seen on ancient Roman glass. Some glass sickness can occur from glassware left in dishwashers to "air dry" or when "locked inside" the dishwasher for long periods of time - the moisture and/or the harsh detergents attack the glass surface. Another way sickness occurs is from long-continued storage in a damp basement, cellar, pantry, or being buried underground in soil that tends to be moist - long continued burial is the main reason for sick glass in antique bottles dug from dumps and privies. And the REALLY old glass - like ancient Roman glass that is 2000 years old - can acquire that extreme sickness that actually becomes a highly prized iridescent patina!
Lots of useful information here for FREE!
Good insights... thanks, George!
Thank you for watching!
@@TheAntiqueNomad Always my pleasure!
By George im sitting here waiting patiently..... fore just a vid or short ....pls mr postman deliver the vid

Gotta pay to join the chat, no thanks! But I do like The Antique Nomad as he is very informative, but not gonna pay. Peace and love until his next TY vid
We do member-only chat on these to benefit them because we couldn't afford to take the time to do the bonus videos without their contribution, very time consuming. All our regular M/W premieres are open to all for free
With that Tiger mirror I would actually frame each one separately and put them on a wall together take the pic and take them down. Use the pic you took for display and put all the mirrors still in frame together with the box and sell it that way. Whoever buys it would have the new option of hanging it in the frame or taking it out. Have a great day and safe travels
Good thought, I wasn't sure how to dislay
I thought you were kidding when you said rabbit brain😮.
The person who bid and won the Danny Lyon poster *might* have used a sniping software program. I have heard (I don't use it) that the snipe software can automatically put a high bid in at about one or two seconds before the end of the listing (and the high bidder could have actually put that bid in several days before).
I like that rabbit brain. 🧠 🐇❣️
This is wonderful
Thanks! I enjoy sharing what I learn
Hey George! This was really interesting, of course! I always enjoy the follow up to Ebay. I don't the Murano dish pictures were very effective this time. It didn't give it any dimension. Overall really interesting pieces.
❤❤❤😊
Agreed, it's a beutiful but flat piece that didn't capture well. I'm glad you enjoy this follow up, I know some people feel like they already saw the stuff but I think the results say so many interesting things!
Hello folks and George!!!!!
Hi there!
Hi George 🖐
Hi!
😊
Hi George! I'm in South Florida.
Hello there! Hope to see you at West Palm Beach show next year
Bong cleaners can take that off sometimes!
Everyone is suggesting that, I'll have to find some!
Nice perfume bottle!
It really is!
Thanks George! Where in WA & where in Pdx???
Evening everyone 👋
Good Evening George
Hello!
Hi George I've watched you for years but I watch on tv so can't comment but I came on my phone just for you I believe the baseball is roger Clemens
See, there's another opinion, I'll check that out! I don't know what I should about baseball
I know nick in time
❤❤❤
Robinson Cano? His number was 22 early in his career
Thinking you and the other person who messaged me are right
Fun
For me too! Thanks
Etsy is selling junk electrical vintage items on their website. Please read everything very carefully before placing any Order with them. The advertisement is deceptive.
Gail here! Did CLL see the pink art glass ?
No, I had it online and not at the Mt. Dora show when she came in February to shop
🎉🎉🎉❤
Robinson Cano played with the Seattle Mariners. His jersey number was 22. He was a big star for the Mariners.
My thought exactly, posted at pretty much the same time. It looks consistent with Google images of his autograph.
@@jmclean281 Yes - and they sell for a lot!
Thank you all! I live in Seattle and should've known, but I'm a Sounders fan and haven't followed the Mariners much
@@TheAntiqueNomad I’m in Seattle, too. That’s the only reason I know. 🤷♀️
Why
Whatever I have stuff of ruzzian decent in my Stock it packed away and probably heading for the bin. One have to be careful separating the Ukrainian stuff. It’s difficult from from the Sovjet times. Europe is not at the point Where we want to preserve ruzzian culture.
I just have to comment that every time I hear someone say people are getting more conservative as they age, I grind my teeth. As a 73 yr old I am far more liberal than I was in the 1970s. And so are many of my peers. We don’t have as much money to collect, is all.
Good to know I didn't get conservative ! ✌
I too tell everyone about the Antique Nomad and his wealth of information on some many items. Do you ever come to New England?
I would love to meet you.
I hope to get back there for my Aunt's 90th birthday in Connecticut this August
