I like to charge for shipping because if I have to do promotional mark down sales, it will be only on the cost of the item and my shipping price will not be affected by markdown sale. On the other hand if you build in the cost of shipping into item price and start doing mark down sales of 30-50% then essentially you are paying for shipping out of your pocket. Hope that makes sense.
@@mm-jz6tk I normally calculate shipping for worst case scenario. I am in CA and my shipping is calculated assuming the buyer is farthest from me ( NJ or NYC etc). I also have excluded certain areas from shipping like Hawaii and US protected areas like Guam etc. Shipping prices normally depend on weight and size of the package. USPS is great for anything less than 2 lbs. UPS and FedEx work great for anything more than 5 lbs. If a box is 12x12x12 and weight less than 5 lbs, I normally have a flat rate of $14.99. If weight is 5-10 lbs, I use flat rate of $16.99 If weight is more than 10 lbs, I use $24.5. These so far work for me.
This is my reasoning for charging shipping, but also more importantly I can withhold the original shipping when a Buyer returns something for a silly reason. I offer buyer pays return shipping and the reasons people still choose to return things and pay return shipping is ridiculous.

If anyone does a lot of clothing and measurements......I recommend printing out a blueprint of each type of clothing you sell, with the measurements arrows........I printed front and back so I didn't have like 10 sheets.......Then laminate each one. Then buy a magic marker to fill in the measurements on your laminated sheet. Then take a quick picture, and erase the measurements. Then you can use the blue print for each different item. Very useful when I did a lot of clothing.
Hi. When posting your title in the description area… do you suggest bold type or the regular 14 pt Ariel suggestion. Does it make a difference? Thanks for your time.
Thank you so much, this video is really helpful and I will definitely be implementing it for my store! One question, how do you guys handle returns if someone used the item and damaged it to a point where the value is significantly lower than when you sold it? Thanks for the video, you guys rock!
Thanks for the great content. When you are using flipwise, what monetary amount do you enter when you sell a personal item? Do you put what you actually paid for it if you can remember or do you put something different since you don't have to pay taxes on your personal items (I think)?
Great advice, some really helpful tips here! Do you have advice for “mystery” boxes? Any in particular that are not scams? Thanks again for your insights!
What about special characters when referring to scale of an item? I sell a lot of models and "1:24" and such to designate scale and such is standard. Do you think there is any negative impact from any eBay algorithms due to this? FYI can't wait for the Ralli Roots group to reopen, I will be in line on Dec 1st! Adopting a few items already, switched out my backdrop from black to white
So I have been selling on eBay since April of this year and I don’t have a store meaning I don’t pay for a store I just sell stuff and I am under the selling limits well under currently but I keep creeping up… Is everything that you recommended today able to be done by someone who does not have a store yet?
I've sold hundreds (thousands?) of items on eBay since the year 2000. It's always been a part of just cleaning up stuff. A little of products I made my self. However, I think it's time I need to create a more serious store... I'd prefer to own my own website but think I should probably quick setup a store on eBay, make some money then transition to my own website. Perhaps put ads in the shipments to advertise a website and give a small discount versus eBay. Just kind of froze up not having done anything yet... but my day job as a Real Estate Broker isn't paying the bills right now so I really need to get something going.
So, the first 2 people I watched on RUclips for reselling were you and Rockstar. And it is just amazing how different each one of you are. You say put title in listing he says don't. You say fill out specifications he says just fill out required. I know it is what works for you but wow.
If you add the shipping into your asking price, 1) do you find that you are significantly higher than other listings and would that be a turn off? 2) Does that affect your ability to accept offers or negotiate without taking a big hit on your net profit?
Thanks Ryan! Great video and useful tips. Question: Do you Promote any of your listings? I'm finding that my items need at least a 5% Promoted Listing for items to move quickly (I was using 10% at one point and even Dynamic, but the percentages were way too high).
That was an awesome video I love it how you broke down different issues in the two stores. Can you please do more of those video can you do a video in step by Step how to do free returns I think that is what my problem is in my store I don’t offer return and the sales are not that great how can I get you to critique my store and tell me what I need to improve on.
ABout returns I hear a LOT of sellers talkign about buyers USING/RENTING their items for 30 days then returning them like with Amazon I am to little to be able to afford that... Also as far as shipping ... with me I look at it if the buyer opens a return then you lose out on shipping and had to pay shipping both ways which you cannot get refunded...also how does that work for writing off for taxes?
I’m new first time on your channel I’m a posh seller wanting to know should I list clothing on eBay in the past only luxury bags on there and not good so fingers crossed
I rarely do free shipping but Ryan made a great point about higher priced items and I just changed all my premium items to free shipping. Being on the east coast, I totally understand about range in shipping prices, for some reason I get a lot of California sales. You can offset this though by using a shipping rate table. My east coast buyers get lower shipping but the shipping zones outside mine have a higher cost.
Hey man been following you for a while, I sell golf clubs full time on eBay and use the green background, Green kind of matches with the golf stuff, nevertheless is this hurting me in the ebay listings?. Should I go back to the pure white back ground?

Thanks for the great content. When you are using flipwise, what monetary amount do you enter when you sell a personal item? Do you put what you actually paid for it if you can remember or do you put something different since you don't have to pay taxes on your personal items (I think)?
Great advice, some really helpful tips here! Do you have advice for “mystery” boxes? Any in particular that are not scams? Thanks again for your insights!
Nice work you guys ✌️☘️
What about special characters when referring to scale of an item? I sell a lot of models and "1:24" and such to designate scale and such is standard. Do you think there is any negative impact from any eBay algorithms due to this? FYI can't wait for the Ralli Roots group to reopen, I will be in line on Dec 1st! Adopting a few items already, switched out my backdrop from black to white
Oh no, not at all. That is totally acceptable for scale, and recommended in title!
Hi dam I missed out! Followed u for years new year new store ? Big question is template and crosslisting !
So I have been selling on eBay since April of this year and I don’t have a store meaning I don’t pay for a store I just sell stuff and I am under the selling limits well under currently but I keep creeping up… Is everything that you recommended today able to be done by someone who does not have a store yet?
Totally, yes :)
Great information. Thanks.
i thought i read somewhere that free shipping puts your item higher up in the search results, is that true ?
You mentioned 14 days return, I used to have that option a few yrs ago, but not anymore, how can I get it back? I sell clothes and shoes, great video!
Hi Ryan, is it worth selling items under $20 on eBay? Please share your thoughts.
How does free shipping work with the new International Shipping program?
Ship to fulfillment center in the us. Buyer pays the rest
So, the first 2 people I watched on RUclips for reselling were you and Rockstar. And it is just amazing how different each one of you are. You say put title in listing he says don't. You say fill out specifications he says just fill out required. I know it is what works for you but wow.
That guy is a con man. I met him 10 years ago and he is super shady.
Different strokes for different folks :)
We do 5-8% on almost everything, yes
Awesome video
That was an awesome video I love it how you broke down different issues in the two stores. Can you please do more of those video can you do a video in step by Step how to do free returns I think that is what my problem is in my store I don’t offer return and the sales are not that great how can I get you to critique my store and tell me what I need to improve on.
Year selling on eBay great tips very helpful
Question I have a small space and need more light have a light box don't like it any suggestions thanks
Oooooo maybe a ring light?
ABout returns I hear a LOT of sellers talkign about buyers USING/RENTING their items for 30 days then returning them like with Amazon I am to little to be able to afford that... Also as far as shipping ... with me I look at it if the buyer opens a return then you lose out on shipping and had to pay shipping both ways which you cannot get refunded...also how does that work for writing off for taxes?
I’m new first time on your channel I’m a posh seller wanting to know should I list clothing on eBay in the past only luxury bags on there and not good so fingers crossed
Good tips
The scary part about free shipping is the cost fluctuates depending on where it's going.
For sure, we cost average our shipping across the board, so if we sell 1000 items we take the average shipping price
Plus, buyers are more likely to lowball you on offers more so than if you have shipping separate.
@@darrenleaguecity that has happened to me a few times.
More of these tips&tricks videos please!!
Totally matches yeah, I’d just test it. Take some of your inventory and do white backgrounds and just see if sales increase
So my fear is especially with used electronics, which I thoroughly test is it could be used for 30 days, broken and sent back. Your thoughts? Will eBay stand behind you in this situation? Thx Enjoyed your tips
