I am disabled and waiting for a double lung transplant. I learned about auctions from watching your videos and do all my sourcing like that. Thank you for teaching us❤
Hi Lori, Just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you. My sister Kat, received a double lung transplant in 1997, at Brigham Women's Hospital in Boston. I was amazed at the technology then and am sure that in 2024, you will do well. All the best to you!
Thanks so much for doing these videos. After watching you so much I decided to take the auction plunge I was afraid to do it but I'm really just buying stuff for myself and my hobby that I usually spend way too much on. My first auction I bid on I won 3 lots at a very cheap price. I am totally enjoying it. I do sell a few things but not much. Mostly to make up what I paid so my stuff is free. You are so enjoyable to watch and have yelped me tremendously. I actually watched one of your videos before bidding in auction. Im hooked now. Thanks so much for your wealth of information and sharing it with us.
I use both Hi-bid & Goodwill. I find great deals on all kinds of items, some very unique. Salvation Army also has a good auction website. Not as large of selection as Goodwill, but same type of auction website. Thanks for referral to the other websites. Your right with Goodwill & the s/h fees. When I 1st used the website, I was like, wtheck? I won auction @$12.00 & my total was $35.00. I paid more for s/h than what I purchased & it wasn't a large item, nor did it weigh a lot. Your right to check shipping before you bid. Great advice that I wouldnt of thought of to say until you said it. Thanks for all your videos & advice.😊
Kat: thank you for all the info! I knew about a couple of these but was happy to hear about the ones I did not know about. As a caregiver for my 90 year old mom it is difficult to go in person to thrifts and estate sales. With that being said you can spend a day out thrifting and not find good items so I like to pick and choose on the auction sites. I have made some mistakes with high handling fees or paying too much on the items but I am doing better! Great video!
Thanks so much for this info! I've been nervous about trying an auction and this helped educate me a bit more lol. Our local thrifting isn't great but I i love it so much lol it's more of hobby right now ... I'm praying I can make it a part or full time income soon. Love your channel and appreciate the time you take to make these videos!!
Just found your channel and WOW I am overwhelmed :) you share so much knowledge I do really appreciate it very much :) thank you for your videos and for sure your effort making them. I opened around 15 of your videos in new tabs and will study them today and tomorrow during my listing :)
Problem is, if you buy an item through an online auction you are going to pay the cost of the winning bid and 15%-20% and (in most states) taxes. commission to the auctioneer. Then you have to factor that when you sell an item online, you will have to pay ebay another 20% for using their platform and you will have to factor local sales tax and shipping charges. If your driving to get items gas and your time. If you buy an item through an online auction for $40 you had better be able to sell that item for $110-$120 to make it worth your while. Also, sourcing every lot In an auction can take days to learn your margins, note auction lots and your max bid you can bid to. Only to maybe not win any lots....lol. This can be a brutal game
It can, but it can also be a very profitable one if you learn it. Typically my pickup hauls yield 5k + in profit and the lots I'm typically less than a dollar in per item ;)
@TheNurseFlipper I'm not finding the link on any video including this one. Click on what to see all your links. I found everything thing but a link to your ebay or other selling platforms? I found the masks, and other links.
I live in California thrift stores sell at retail prices for example a shirt at our Goodwill is $10.99 and this is a shirt from Walmart. The Goodwill also does not sell anything of value because they researched it and then put it on eBay themselves. The best thrift store we had closed. Salvation Army as well very high priced. I watch a lot of the good Will catch videos and I’m wondering where on earth do they get those prices at their Goodwill in California? Everything is at what it’s sold for new or even higher. I am very excited about this video.
Thank you so much!!! You have helped me tremendously. I'm getting ready to begin my reselling adventure and my family has been hearing your videos around the clock for months!! You have inspired me to actually try to do this! Thanks again for all the information n commitment!!!
I would point out that if an auction seller intentionally misleads with the items they are selling by failing to disclose significant faults or flaws in an item, this is fraud, and can be disputed through your credit card company. It's a long process, but you do have some recourse against fraudulent sellers.
I had not watched for a long time. I forgot how motivated I feel after watching. Going full time now with just my retirement income and I forget to work sometimes 😊
Thanks Kat. That was intresting. And something that I have never tried. I like that youve shown the how tos on each site. Very appreciated! Your personal experience & helpful tips makes this something doable to me. I see the importance of checking those extra costs, definitely! That could get someone paying up the kazoo real fast. Overall, I might give shopping an auction a try. Iy looks fun. As always, thanks for all of your time and effort bringing this information to us. Hope you have an awesome day! 😉👍❤
Hey Kat! I've been buying from Maxsold for a long time. During covid there were a few auctions that offered shipping on smaller items but it's extremely rare. I live in the Atlanta area so there are usually at least a couple of auctions going all the time but lately there seems to be a drought for some reason. I have picked up some really good stuff over the years though. Happy hunting!
I’m not sure if I got a raced but number one I thoroughly enjoy your videos and trust your opinion. I am relatively new at this and I recently got a Yamaha leather motorcycle jacket in excellent condition but I have no idea how to value it. Do you have any suggestions?
I won some auctions on CT Bids, picked them up. Whatever didn't sell online, they sold Garage Sale style, picker choice. So I got a picker lot for about $30 for about 60 items. Wedgwood, vintage crystal, linens. So about 50 cents each. 🎉
Wow, that’s amazing! I used to work for Caring Transitions, parent company of CT bids. I would go to the prospective clients’ houses and assess what they had for an estate sale. I was so dumb, I was not even thinking about reselling then…
I sell on HiBid and I do not offer shipping. Every single auction I have done there are buyers from other states that win bids. I sell a lot of furniture and I’m definitely not shipping it. Yes, I receive the funds and the buyer does not get their merchandise. However, I’m trying to move merchandise and now I’m stuck with it for another sale. Please check auction details.
❤I got up the nerve to try HiBid so thank you. It’s a learning curve and I appreciate all the info you openly share. The thing that made me the most nervous at first was the time in between winning the auction/paying and the next communication about shipping. Each auction house seems to do it differently (fast, slow, communicative, mysterious)😅 Do you research the reputation of auction houses/sites? If so how?
I typically try to do it as close to the ending time as possible which depends on the auction house. On shop goodwill early in morning and late at night auctions but on hibid it depends on when they're ending
I had to look up the definition for ‘Lot’. I assumed lots were pre-assembled such as a group/crate/box of many items they are selling for one price. But you are looking at individual items and creating your own lot? If you were to purchase one item or 50 items from the same auction, it’s considered a lot?… if it is under the lot category?
I simply search for lot when I say that I mean I'm buying multiple items at one price from an auction and typically I buy quite a few lots when I do. I don't search using categories only keywords
22:01 this is what I was talking about. I went back and did a quick watch to find this. So you’re buy numerous items from this one auction and regardless of the weight or number of items you’re paying one shipping fee, so that is why you were adding more if you would like. And it is called a lot.? I’m just trying to learn the terminologies, and sometimes one word means a couple things and when you’re in the know you’re not. Lol.
22:01 this is what I was talking about. So you’re buy numerous items from this one auction you’re paying one shipping fee, that is why you discuss adding more items. And it is called a lot.? I’m just trying to learn the terminologies, and sometimes one word means a couple things and when you’re in the know you know. Am I asking this clearly? In my mind, in the past, purchasing a ‘lot’ means clicking on the item, and there I will see a large box full of numerous items, or 50 white T-shirts size medium… But in this terminology, it can also mean numerous items from one auction sale to be shipped together for one shipping fee and that is called a lot. But it is only listed under lots? That doesn’t mean any of their items, only the ones listed under lots. OK! I think I just figured it out by saying it out loud. Am I correct?? Lol.
Worthpoint is a service that has 10 years of sales history of eBay and other auction sites. It is a paid service, but if you find enough one off items that are rare it is worth trying. It is www.worthpoint.com/partner/32626
I make quite a bit. I do have employees that help with ebay. Like week before last we went to 3 Tampa bay rays game and we're going again next week and the nice thing working from home is you can take a break whenever you want
I think maybe with a platform as big as yours, you should probably think twice about this would affect others' livelyhood. The auction sites I used to love to shop on are now flooded because you decided to share your sourcing platforms with over 100k smh. If someone want to be a reseller, they can hunt for themselves...your channel is super helpful, but man, this really sucks!!

Very interesting, I always feel nervous buying from auctions online, I am a tactile person and feel I have to touch the items.
Yeah it is a different experience for sure
Is there a best day or time to bid on the items? Thank you

Where do you get price estimates if you can not find the item . Lamp, may be sitzendorf, unsure? Thanks for any suggestions.
I just price similiar to items like it.It's rare I buy if I don't have an idea of what it will sell for though
Thank you, it is so adorable, I don't care if it sells or not.
Does CT stand for Caring Transitions?
Yes
Thank you for teaching us so much! Question: If we pay to get won auction items shipped to us, is the shipping considered a tax deduction?
Yes! It is a cost of buying the goods
Awesome!!!! Thank you!
Very interesting!
Glad you think so!
Thanxs Kat
You're welcome :D
Re: Hibid, have you ever bid and shipped from a company internationally, specifically Canada? Are the shipping charges reasonable or cost prohibitive?
Yes I have but only jewelry so it was lightweight and shipping wasn't bad
I have an auction house down the street from me that I watch on HiBid but they normall hit ebay or higher prices.
Yeah a few I've seen do that as well
Do you know if any of these auction sites will take Paypal?
Shop goodwill does but I think that's it the rest all need credit card
Thanks so much for sharing this info
Thanks
No problem
Kat, how do I send them my tax ID?
Send who? each auction site has different procedures and on hibid each company you have to send it to
My goodness, do you ever sleep? You are a wealth of information!
Yes I do! LOL I've actually been making myself get 8 hours a night :-)
