    Appreciate the straightforward advice. I don’t think it was delivered harshly. I think it was delivered matter-of-factly. Lots of sellers complain about eBay, but they’re only certain things we can control and we cannot control the company. Therefore, we need to focus on our listings to do the best we can. I personally need to pay more attention to sell through rate!

    I know I get from eBay from what I put into it. If I'm consistent, so are my sales...If I goof off, I have nobody to blame but myself. I am part-time as I work a full time job but I need to build my draft bank up so I can still post. You reminded me of something when I sold my house in 2008. Items longer than 22 inches now go UPS ( it's closer to me then Fed EX). Since December 1st, daily I've been doing a deep dive on the 15 oldest items in my store and checking titles, pictures, price & shipping and modifing them before doing end & sell similar. If you have stuff no one wants on ebay, my solution to that was to find Facebook groups to sell them in. My Jeep group, for example, was actually showing a picture of that old school Renegad bottle that someone found at an antique mall and they were all admiring it. So, you may be able to offload that stuff by thinking outside the box.

    Kat, you left out the most important thing, the ebay fee. It's around 14-15%! I have sold Antique Beer Cans on ebay for several years and when I buy cans on ebay to sell, I also have to pay a state sales tax of 9.25%. So pricing is a real problem because buyers don't seem to know about the sellers costs and don't care. What I don't understand (and maybe you can address it) but how do sellers sell a book for $4.93 AND include shipping which would be a cost of $4.13 for about 1lb on media mail. How do they do that? So they would make 80 cents! But the book may be more than 1 lb which means they would lose money selling a book. Am I missing something here?

    • @TheNurseFlipper
      @TheNurseFlipper  8 месяцев назад +1

      Well ebay fees doesn't compute into why things aren't selling as buyers could care less about our fees. Those book sellers run on volume sell 1000 books it's 800 dollars and a lot have contracts with usps for lower shipping prices if they do volume

    I like your directness. This solid advice has been given over and over. I buy lots of the same unbreakable items to resell. I sell very lightweight items. I cannot tell you how many times Ive received lots and they come in a box when a poly mailer is good nough. Not only that, the items smell of mold, they are torn or have big holes and the items although they have store tags attached, have big holes in them. Like the entire order came wadded up in the box. DO NOT DO THIS. buyers will not come back and you will get bad feedback. So if you sell lots, the best ones look like the items were handled with care. Good photos. Know what it costs to ship and ship in appropriate size containers. I received 41 beautiful clean neatly folded items yesterday in the same sized box that the moldy lot of 13 came in. Just because items have a store tag doesn’t mean a thing! Hiding flaws from view is misrepresenting that item. Sellers who ship stinky flawed items will be shown no mercy from me anymore. Im pushing back from now on.

    Kat its not fair to say its all the sellers fault, there are very real issues with ebay that interfere with sales , especially in the past year. (And saying its you not ebay can be offensive to some struggling sellers)I however accept that the seller can do many things to boost their sales for sure. I also think you sell as much as you do because you work hard and invest in many great items plus have a large store. The more items you have listed the more people have to choose from. I do think being on youtube helps make some sales. In general being on multiple social media platforms helps a lot too.

    • @TheNurseFlipper
      @TheNurseFlipper  10 месяцев назад +4

      The facts are most of the time if someone is not getting sales there is something they can do about it and rather than complain if they face it and try to find the root cause of the problem whether it's not having desirable items or pricing too high or shipping too high there is something that all of us, myself included can do to better themselves. I am not about coddling people and oh it's ok it's not your fault when reality is there is ALWAYS something ALL of us can do to improve our sales and blaming it on eBay or any other outside forces does nothing to fix the problem. Less than 5% of my sales come from social media, some people on youtube get a ton, but I am not one of those that do. Of course the more you list the more you sell, but it still has to be items that someone wants.

    • @diane-b2z
      @diane-b2z 10 месяцев назад +3

      I agree that sellers need to strive to continually work on their listings but it is unfair to say that this past year ebay had no part in low sales because there is proof that they did. Changes to the search for one is a very real problem. There are other glitches and changes that ebay made that affected sales for many sellers.I have very real proof of damage that was caused by ebay. I am getting sales right now so I am not complaining and I can see a difference if I dont keep up with the listing. The only real complaint I have is with sellers pricing too low de valueing many items especially jewelry. The low pricing of sterling jewelry is ridiculous and a very real problem. I dont know what percentage of sales come from social media but I do believe that it is advertising and it helps to bring in customers. I had a situation where I promoted at 10% and could not find my items until the last page. I talked to an ebay rep who agreed there was something wrong and referred my items to be reviewed. She also stated she would request my items to be given a boost. And that boost made a major difference in my sales so I know for a fact that ebay can and does have an effect on sales.. I dont disagree with your valuable advise. I do however disagree that there have not been problems with the ebay website this past year.@@TheNurseFlipper

      @diane-b2z 9 месяцев назад

      There have been a few, one problem I had was when they changed item specifics. I had problems getting my listings to go thru and then my listings were not shown for 4 weeks!! Also I feel like if I pay 10% to promote an item it should not include several other sellers items on my page. I lost a $200 sale because a potential buyer found a similar item cheaper on my page, I dont consider that promoting my item at all!! I have found my items that I promoted at 10% showing on the last page not up front as it should be. There have been many glitches this past year, problems with the Search and more. I am not saying there are many things the seller can do to improve their sales, there are many things that can help. But to say that ebay had nothing to do with bad sales last year is just plain wrong. So many sellers whose living depended on ebay sales struggled to get by. I dont think any of them would agree that it was all their fault!!.

    I feel ebay has lots of potential! I've been a seller for almost 2 years and I get sales at different times. I think people want items that are reasonably priced. I have a store which mostly sells collectables. It's a niche store but I'd like to get more sales in the month. I think i can do it. Great info!

    Some great tips here. Another one is be sure to give the size of the item in cases where a photo or item doesn't make it obvious. I am surprised how many times the sellers don't give the size . 😮Some sellers put a ruler in the photo which is another option.

      @@TheNurseFlipper Yes, if I'm not sure of the size of the item, I normally don't bother emailing the seller. I just go on to another auction that does give the size and I buy that one. So the seller that didn't list the size missed the sale. Has happened a lot. Obviously if the item has a known size, then giving that info isn't needed. But there are many times when I'm not sure of the size and yet it wasn't listed in the auction. The only time I'll email the seller for size info, is if I can't find the item anywhere else.

    I can go a month without listing a single item and have 3-5 sales a week. I can list daily and go a week with no sales. I think the buying public is finicky. eBay does need to fix it's search function, that is broken making it difficult for people to find the items. Great video as always! 🎉

    Seriously, the Avon example is priceless and for a resellers own good. My friend bought out a retired Avon lady’s stash so excited for those tempting quirky bottles-most still full! it’s been over a year and she sold maybe ten percent of them. The metrics are dead on. There were too many made and the owners kept them as if they were 401ks so most are far from special. Tip: if you’re sitting on any, lot them out in an auction and let it be a lesson.

    I appreciate your straightforward approach and solid information and tips. I am new and trying many things to see what might work for me. I beat myself up a lot that I am making mistakes in my buying. I appreciate your analysis that it was the “cost of learning.“ That helps. But otherwise it seems like getting things for free or buying huge lots of things where the cost of the items is less than a dollar is the best way to go. thrift shop flipping is getting harder and harder even though people keep showing videos on this. The thrift shops don’t want to miss out on the “gains.” With all this research, I find listing takes me quite a long time, like about 20 minutes per listing. I wish I could do it faster because it is hard to keep up with the volume. also, could you discuss pricing in more depth? Should we always go by sold or consider the available listings also?

    • @TheNurseFlipper
      @TheNurseFlipper  8 месяцев назад

    Whoa, that was a brutal intro but truth is truth. I would say that I meet all but one of your requirements and that is that I don't list. I have about 100 items. Sometimes I'll have 3 sales in two days and other times it might be a month between sales. I work hard when I list--maybe not smart (long, accurate descriptions) I price competitively, pass on my shipping discount, use all of my title spaces available, take many good photos, check comps & sell-through. I put it down to the eBay algorithm---I'm not constantly listing. Of course, I am not sure about missing the promoted fees or international selling. NOT doing those surely can't help. Still, when I was doing a comp search the other day--when I had it set at Best match there was a significant difference in the number being shown compared to those I searched under Highest. (wish I could find it now). That makes me know that some listings are hidden. I take responsibility for mine with my lack of listings but I don't think eBay is without it's own manipulations. Thanks for the video

    • @TheNurseFlipper
      @TheNurseFlipper  10 месяцев назад +4

      Yeah there are some search things going on, but I think sales should still be consistent with good items listed consistently. I didn't see regular sales until I had about 500 listed but I do a mix of long tail and fast selling items

  • @angelaskrabanek2629
    @angelaskrabanek2629 5 месяцев назад +1

    So when I am pricing my items based on comps, do I price right at the amount the item has been selling for, slightly higher so I can make offers? I just always feel like I should price where I can make some kind of discount when someone shows interest and eBay sends the whole “you have an interested buyer, make an offer.” If my item is already priced at what it has been selling for then there is no room to offer a discount so then I guess just don’t make those offers and disregard? LOVE YOUR CHANNEL appreciate your input in advance!

    • @TheNurseFlipper
      @TheNurseFlipper  5 месяцев назад

      I normally price at what it's been selling for and still send offers because I buy high. If you're priced higher than others then people might not even look at it. However, if you paid too much to be able to do this then perhaps price a little higher
