  • Battery Charge, Visit Workshop. Not what I wanted to see on Dominic's S500 Mercedes. So we went out and got a refurbished alternator. I mean, how hard could it be?
    It did take a lot longer than anticipated. How did they cram in in there?
    As always, Thank you for watching :)

      Thanks. The struggle was real. I made a mistake by jacking up the car instead of leaving it low. I thought I might have space from the bottom, but nope. I think it made it harder. We couldn’t feel our arms. Thanks for watching.

      Thank you. It was frustrating, especially that people said you pull it through the bottom. So we drove the car on the ramps and it was inconvenient, harder than it should be, and the arms were on fire. Leave the car on the ground. I doubt you can pull the alternator from the bottom anyways. Loosen the radiator maybe you get just an extra tiny bit of clearance.

    Did you have weird display issues on the dash before you replaced the alternator? I have an S500 and am getting periodic issues where it will say SRS is off, battery needs charge, and blinkers will not work, as well as fuel gauge going all the way down, but then some days none of the problems appear. After watching this and doing some reading I think I might have to replace mine too.

    • @Turbo_Snail
      @Turbo_Snail  5 лет назад

      I think you may just need a new battery. Get it tested at your local auto store. They will determine if your alternator is bad or your battery.
      To answer your question tho, I didn’t have anything pop up on the screen.

    • @Turbo_Snail
      @Turbo_Snail  5 лет назад

      Yeah, when the batter was new and fully charged you had no issues because you had enough power. I guess your alternator is weak and can’t charge the battery full. I think it’s time for an alternator.

      Hm. Things started acting up because battery was low. Eventually no start. It had to come out. You can go to advance auto parts. They will connect your car to a computer and test it. It can tell whether you have a bad battery or a bad alternator. And it’s completely free.

    You'll have to be replacing that alternator again after 1 year because Autozone alternators don't work, alternators have to be OEM you will find out the hard way, other parts can be aftermarket, but not Alternator

    • @Turbo_Snail
      @Turbo_Snail  4 года назад

      Not sure who told you that or why you would believe that. As you can see this alternator is now about a year old. I’ve had an autozone alternator on another Mercedes and after 6 years it still worked when the car was sold. Maybe the person who told you that had one with the wrong specs. If you demand a certain amperage a lesser alternator will overwork itself and eventually die.

      Have you checked the battery first? I would jump start the car, go down to your favorite auto part store and have them run a test. They will hook up a machine and it will test the battery as well as the alternator. Don’t waste money on the wrong part. If it’s the alternator, you know how to do it. The battery is in the trunk, passenger side under a little panel. Good luck! Let me know how it went.

      Take the key out of your fob. Look at the bottom of the trunk, where your handle is. There is a key slot for the little key that’s in your fob. Let the battery charge for a little, it’ll jump start.

    Don't confuse "rebuilt parts" with new.... rebuilt will last just the warranty time + 1month 🤗

    • @Turbo_Snail
      @Turbo_Snail  3 года назад

      I had actually good luck with rebuilt parts. Suspension 1 year warranty, 3 years still going strong. Alternator is now over a year, still going strong. If the car was younger, I would have gone with new. The thing is, many parts actually say that if it's not professionally installed, you forfeit the warranty. So it doesn't really matter. The tensioner is still tensioning after all this time ;)
