Thanks, very good video which helped me swap the alternator on a C180 W203. Just a few points to add; If you don't have the equipment to work from below the car, you can do it entirely from the top. Be warned, its difficult, but not impossible. You'll be unscrewing bolts blindly, doing it by feel, and getting the alternator in position to screw back in is hard because its so heavy. There might be a bracket held on to the front of the alternator. There isnt one in this example, but there was one on mine. I just took it off, because it was getting in the way. When putting the belt back on, make sure the torx bit that goes in the tensioner is on the bottom side of the belt and not above it, or you will struggle to get the belt back on and wonder if it has magically shrunk in size! I'm not sure in the case of this C230, but this was important in my case; if your car's original alternator is a Valeo, you have to replace it with a Valeo, if its a Bosch you have to replace it with a Bosch. They are not interchangable. All may seem fine at first, but you may eventually get warning lights on the dash and other odd behavior, P0620 code etc and you'll wear down the battery's life. In this video, the alternators are NOT identical; the new part is actually a Valeo (remanufactured by Bosch), the old part is a Bosch. Carefully inspect both parts before installation. If possibe, i'd recommend fixing and servicing your original part to ensure maximum compatibilty.
You may want to change the range of years. The 2001-2005, with the M271 SC 4 cylinder, this would work. In 2006, the C230s have V6s. I believe the M272 V6. Completely different procedure.
@@christopherbartley5660 I rarely change the alternator on the M272 Mercedes models. It's most often the voltage regulator that fails I get a new regulator, replace it and off it goes.
@@christopherbartley5660 I have no idea if they are the same since I don't replace them. You would have to check the part numbers to find out. Clearly they are different engines and most likely mount differently.
I done this today. fustrating fidilly job but doable. there was two of us. i removed the rollbar also (13mm bolts) from the bottom to have a little more room and removed the bracket from the powersteering hose (10mm torx) which made me more room to wiggle the alternator out from the top tools required--- 10mm and 14mm torx (buy a small set from somewhere) 10mm and 13mm socket and spanner + small extensions (buy a small set of sockets and spanners!) decent size crow/lever bar for belt tensioner flat screwdriver (large and medium size) the tension pully has a 50mm security torx nut on there, not standard torx it has a hole in the middle. i couldnt find this so i just used a lever to release and install the belt
Tools Needed? Sizes? Would be great if it was listed. I am limited on tools and would like to have what I need when I start instead of making multiple trips. What size is the male Torx used for the tensioner?
thats the problem with these "bigheaded septics" doing videos they like the sound of their own voices and play fancy music whilst doing the the job to speed up the video to make it look like they did it in 10 minutes when it took them all day and then cant explain what tools they did the job with ie a torx 40 or 50 a 13 mm socket etc etc.Just pure arrogance at best.

Good day. I have a 2004 C200 W203 kompressor mercedes. Lately the alternator did not charge the battery. On checking I that the alternator was faulty. changed the voltage regulator but the snag still persisted. Removed and replace the rectifier, it worked but the voltage is no higher than 13.7 Volts. No doubt the battery is charging but the alternator/battery light illuminates in red. Along with it the check oil level light illuminates too in red. Question: What is the probable cause of the oil level light to illuminate?
Hi, my battery keeps dying and I'm wondering if anyone might have a few suggestions for what to look into. It started happening after a cross country trip through snowy mountains and my center console also stopped displaying anything around the same time. Not sure if the console works but doesnt display or if it just doesnt work at all for some reason, but the radio doesnt work and sometimes when I open a door the window rolls down a bit every time I open the door (currently battery is dead though so nothing happening currently). I'm studying up on all things mercedes electronics and engine, but if someone has any suggestions of what to look into it's much appreciated. Also note that I drove through alot of salty slushy roads in addition to the sub-freezing temperatures. Again, any help is much appreciated but if the details provided are too vague to narrow things down that's understandable as well.
Did you find your battery drain? I have a 2003 c230 compressor coupe'. An auto electrician friend of mine say it might be the stator on the alternator that drains your battery, otherwise, chech your electric seats if you have electric seats or your dome light, or my car's alarm gives jipp, so it goes off then sound stops sounding but lights stays on. Let me know what it was if you finf your problem.
Also do NOT Jumpstart these Mercs EVER!! Charge battery first, if you Jumpstart and then drives with flat battery it over heats your regulator and you WILL replace your alternator. Believe me I just did.

Gothiqueluv Mercedes-Benz and many other German manufacturers such as BMW, Audi, and even some Volkswagens have complicated designs because they know that most independent mechanics won’t want to even touch them and so that way customers would only bring their cars back to the manufacturer so that way they can make a higher profit doing the job. @@kingjlinza I completely agree! I had to take my Mercedes to the mechanic. I had a few of the locals try to work on it, but it didn't work out. I wound up having to take it to the dealer.
