This is a part of Bobby Hatfield's Obituary. He died when he was 63 years old in a motel room 30 minutes before joining his friend, Bill Medley, at a live concert in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
"An avid athlete, Bobby Hatfield considered a career in professional baseball, but found his true calling in music - a love he pursued while attending Long Beach State University, where he formed a band and performed at bars and proms.
Hatfield teamed up with Bill Medley in 1962 as part of a five-piece group called The Paramours. According to the Righteous Brothers Web site, a black Marine called out during one of their performances, "That was righteous, brothers!"
They renamed themselves the Righteous Brothers before the release of their first album in 1963".

the phenomenal aspect is that Bobby Medley sang the song live in the video without any help from production or or sound enhancement. I am an old guy- my wife and I saw the Righteous Brothers in 1974 at a nightclub in Dallas. Bobby sounded just as clear on each note, reached all the high ones and was able to sustain them. And baby girl, don't be afraid to cry at beauty. There wasn't a dry eye in the nightclub by any of the women and although boys didn't cry in the 60's- it wasn't allowed- there were some faces that looked like they could break out in tears at any moment

This was Bobby Hatfield's Crowning Achievement. It's an old school standard like I Only Have Eyes For You by The Flamingos. It was done on The Andy Williams Variety Show that The Osmonds made their bones on in the 1960's. In those days when you were A Rock Star you did shows like these. In the 1970's when he fell on Hard Times, Bobby Hatfield gave up his rights to the song, and when it got played in Ghost, he didn't get paid. It was also featured on The Wonder Years. Sadly it was one of the last songs Elvis Presley Sang Six Weeks before he died in Concert.

The Righteous Brothers (not related) were a duo but they often sang solo on their albums. It's been said that both of them wanted to sing this song so it was decided by a coin toss & Bobby won. :-) This is what we call blue eyed soul...The great Bobby Hatfield - he did this in one take with a live audience, also in front of his parents, no autotune or computer aided post production enhancements - just pure talent. I was born two years after this performance, but I always heard it being played at home & on the radio. It's been one of my all time favorite songs since I was a young kid. It is considered to be one of the greatest love songs ever composed. It has been covered many times over by other great artists, but Bobby Hatfield's version is probably the most well known & beloved the world over. It was used as the main love theme for the movie GHOST starring Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze, & Whoopi Goldberg. This was definitely Bobby's signature song, as no other can match his performance - so smooth & melodic, such a one of a kind ethereal voice that can make any lady (or man) swoon. Please check out "You've lost that lovin' feeling", Bill takes lead & Bobby provides background vocals on that amazing song. It holds the record for being the most radio requested song of the 20th century and was featured in a famous scene from the movie "Top Gun" with Tom Cruise & Val Kilmer.

It doesn't get any better than this ! Bobby was under a lot of pressure that night. Not only did he sing live , he sang it with his mom in the audience. Plus he was suffering from a head cold ! What a tremendous talented singer !

Listen to the way he moves his voice along with the music, up and down and back and forth. He is a very talented singer but his voice is also like sugar and honey and just so, so rich. An absolutely stunning performance. Imagine he sang this at a big occasion like the Superbowl. It would have brought the house down.

Bobby "the F'ing Voice" Hatfield - That smile at the end - "Eff Yeah, I Killed it". You can say that he's an amazing talent, but not just that - it's a talent that has trained and honed into an incredibly precise instrument that Bobby could wield at his will. And did he ever wield it.

the very beginning said it all...bought a smile to my face but then that
song always brings a smile to my face. I was 25 when this was performed
on Andy Williams. We didn't have a TV (or a phone) in our house way
back when but I had a great mum and our family was never poor. We may

The song was written between 1954 and 1955. In 1955 there were 4 versions by 4 separate artist.
When the Righteous Brothers got this it's been theirs, well more Bobby Hatfield's; his version is the standard that many are compared to.
On this live performance his Mother ( possibly dad ) is in the audience.
At the end he bites his lip as he knows he nailed this song.
There are hundreds of covers of this song, sung by Elvis, Robson and Jerome many, many others many come close, but none beat Bobby's rendition.
