Crowley's whole personality changes after Hell swoops him out of Edinburgh. He goes from "Love a bit of body snatching!" to "....Angel, I need protection".
And it's a shift so severe and out of character that Aziraphale refuses to believe it's not for emergency suicide purposes. Hell fucked him up bad for saving Elspeth.
Hey something that hurts me- if we go by the canon appearances given, after Crowley is taken to hell in Edinburgh the next date we see him at is the scene where he asks for holy water in season 1. Whatever happened to him caused him to ask for holy water and it makes me so sad😭
Oh Right!? Sometime in England 1800s I almost forgot about that! I wonder if Crowley got punished by several years. And that why he was unable to meet with Aziraphale
@@kay-jay1581 Since the diary entry says the graveyard events happened a month ago and that Aziraphale didn't see Crowley for quite some time after (suggesting he saw him before writing the entry), I would say Crowley was gone for less than a month. That doesn't really address how long he was in Hell, but my headcanon is he had to do paperwork or was just pulled down to receive another undeserved commendation.
@@Noisycatstephanie A walking cane of that type was a common men's fashion accessory at that time and not necessarily indicative of an injury. It also seems unlikely that any torture done to Crowley in Hell would have been inflicted on his earthly body. Of course, a lot of people prefer the headcanon that Crowley was tortured and that's certainly one possibility, but I don't think the cane settles that one way or the other. But my own interpretation is that 1867 is not the next time they meet.
I LOVE the detail that Crowley always seems willing to answer questions about the world, even from people he doesn't particularly know/like/trust like Jim and Muriel, because he was cast out of heaven for asking questions. Even in the last episode when Job is talking to God, he could have easily been angry or bitter that humans are allowed to ask questions without punishment (Job may not have gotten any answers, but you can hear the awe in Crowley's voice when he says it's amazing at Job "just to be allowed to ask the question" but instead he seems to just maintain his curiosity, be fascinated by humans, and be willing to answer anyone's questions when he can.
6:03 I often wonder if that’s what the director and Neil wanted for Aziraphale to be portray as smitten… or if that’s just Micheal being slightly unhinged on set 🤣😂
I love Muriel as well. Just so you know Muriel and Beezelbub both go by they/them pronouns. Angels and demons in this universe are non-binary. I am so happy when you drop these reactions! This is my comfort show!
I didn't correct her. I wouldn't do that. I had read that the beings in this universe were non binary and I shared what knowledge I had. I certainly don't need you to correct me.
I LOVE your reactions. I say that every time, but you have a talent for comedy! I love how you lecture all the characters, heaven, and us viewers as you watch. I agree, Jim/Gabriel is adorable this season, Muriel is precious, and this show presents complex problems in an incredibly palatable, fun, thought-provoking way.
So, the show makes a point to show us that demons like Shax can't come into the bookshop because it has Heavenly protection, being that it is property of an Angel... Jump to Aziraphale rather boldly claiming partial ownership of the Bentley. Later on, when he encounters Shax while driving, Shax wears a disguise and coerces and invitation into the car out of Aziraphale. Can we assume other demons can no longer pop in and out of the Bentley uninvited? Might Azirphale have been working to protect Crowley without Crowley (or the audience) noticing?
Beelzebub manifests in the Bentley to drag Crowley to Hell for questioning about Gabriel's disappearance, but that's in a previous episode. You could be right.
12:40 oh you might have missed it because Aziraphale’s driving shenanigans 😆 but he was driving to Edingburgh, Scotland. It’s half a day sway from Soho, England. But if your an Engel or Demon I’m sure the drive is much shorter 😂
Yeah, this is the only episode in which I felt actual dislike of Aziraphale for a short time--or at least his fucked up philosophy. All that about poverty being a spiritual opportunity that can be good for a person is partly how I was raised and it is deeply fucked. If he'd only tried to help Morag and Elspeth from the start Morag would have lived. He never offered to help at all--giving the money was Crowley's idea. But we're all works in progress, and he was indoctrinated just as I was.
Whenever something does not make logical sense, Aziraphale always goes back to "it's ineffable." An easy way to get around asking questions. Probably drives the logical Crowley crazy.
Well you have to remember even though Aziraphale spend lots of time on earth, he truly believes in all the words of god and doesn’t understand human suffering and gray areas really well. Is thanks to Crowley were he can reflect and make changes. Shades of grey is not a concept he gets that well. He only see good and bad. How testing and temptation has either a good choice or bad choice.
Once you finish the series, you might consider reading some fanfictions and recording youtube reactions to those! (Totally mostly kidding) It would just be you staring wide-eyed at your screen, muttering "holy shit" and fanning yourself. 😂
Maybe the only reactor I've seen notice Muriel's lack of reaction about the planned deaths of Job's children. In fairness, though, humans should go to Heaven (human Heaven, assuming it's been invented by the time of Job, not horrible blinding white corporate Heaven), but, really, I don't think most of the angels give a lot of thought to humans at all, particularly those who are stationed in corporate Heaven doing paperwork. Aziraphale, although he is having a learning curve with the new human situations brought about by the industrial revolution (people moving out of the country and not finding it that easy to find work and lodging in the cities, etc. -- big oversimplification, sorry) and parroting the company line, is also the one trying to save Elspeth's soul. He also brings up a good point about the poor. Dalrymple takes advantage of the poor to steal the bodies. The rich have booby traps to keep the graves of their loved ones safe, so it's the bodies of the poor who are stolen. When Dalrymple gets the body from Elspeth, he lowballs her, calls it "blood money," and insults her, saying she'll probably spend it on gin. Dalrymple also makes some good points, obviously. Crowley is weirdly gleeful (about graverobbing, more concerned with teaching Aziraphale a lesson than with Elspeth's actual well-being, toasting to more murders, etc.). Both our ineffables seem a little off, but this is a diary entry also, not an objective account. It is a little strange that they can give Elspeth money. The relationship between angels and money in this universe is curious. In a lot of angel stories, the angels can't deal with money at all. Now, at the beginning of the diary entry, Aziraphale says the graveyard adventures happened the month before, and, at the end, he says he was not to see Crowley for "quite some time," which means that he has seen Crowley again and it has been less than a month before that (seeing him again) happened. So less than a month was a long time for Aziraphale not to see Crowley during this period. I like to think he was called back to do paperwork or to receive a commendation for something he didn't do again. Sorry for the long comment!
To be fair to our little baby angel, does Muriel even understand what Death is? Like on a gut level? Gabriel and the others didn't know about birth, why would the lower tier angels know about the logistics of Death and why it's a bad thing from a human pov. As far as they're concerned, you're just moving addresses to better real estate. Earth is kinda gross, why would you want to live there anyway? lol
@@mayaenglish5424 Exactly. If they knew about death, it would be just going to Heaven; the important thing is the soul. And Muriel hadn't been to Earth at the time of the cross ducks incident. It will be interesting to see how and if Earth changes them.
