Own 3, 2 5000k and one 4000k... love both but fell in love with the warm light of the 4000k. Now just waiting for the minis to ship...
5000k has more lumens, warms up slower on turbo... 4000k makes reds absolutely pop with color and very easy on the eyes especially if you take a long walk in the garden without visual fatigue; warma up to hot on turbo insanely fast though but can hold high mode for a very very long time and have more than enough light and distance still.
First luminus led lights I've owned and not at all disappointed. Overall for the price with coupons of sales... this is awesome.

Here are some details not mentioned in the video. The older MF01 uses a boost driver so it's power output is not as high. The new MF01S uses a FET driver which provides the highest output. Matt's original light uses the XP-G3 which is pretty efficient. If he had the Nichia 5000K version, output would measure closer to 7000 lm. Matt's newer MF01S is using the SST-20 5000K which is pretty close to the Nichia 5000K. So in an apples to apples comparison, the output difference would be about 4,600 lumen. This shows the true difference in power between the different driver designs. One more thing, the SST-20 is a slightly smaller led than the XP-G3, this creates a narrower beam angle. This is a big reason why the newer MF01S throws much further distance.

@@Lumencraft- There is not much info on the MF01S driver. Here is what I know, it was designed by Lexel, it runs on 6v, it's got 2 channels, a small FET controls a resistor bank for everything from moonlight up to about 500 lumen and a big FET controls everything from there on up.

Sst20 5000k is no cri90 as the nichia 5000k in the old MF01 is, or is it? So the comparison would be correct, because both LEDs are "low" cri ones.

Looking for a recommendation for an edc light. I’ve been carrying a Fenix LD10 for years and it has served me pretty well. I LOVE the super low power because I sometimes work in an air traffic control tower and TRACON testing/replacing electronic equipment. I need the super low power as to not ruin a controller’s night vision. But, even on turbo, I’ve never really been impressed with the max output of the LD10. I’d like to stay as small as possible. AA/14500. Considering 18650 also. Any recommendations? I like cheap.

I just got the Mateminco mt18s. Any ideas why my IMR 18650 button top protected 10A , 3500mAh batteries don't work properly in it? I notice it requires a little extra pressure to twist the rear cap on. Whereas my IMR 18650 button top unprotected 20A , 3000mAh batteries work fine and the rear cap goes on very easily. I'm thinking button top protected batteries are in general a little longer perhaps? Which batteries do you recommend for this flashlight? ALSO PLEASE, can you recommend a flashlight with the power and soda can size of these but having about a 20 - 35 % less wide flood beam and a more focused concentrated spot Lord far distance beam? Basically sacrificing flood width beam for a more long distance spot beam. Actually I'd love it if there was a control dial or something so we could change from super wide flood beam to super fine long distance spot beam. Is there possibly any such animal?

Hello, I have this light, and let me just say, it might be useful on turbo as an emergency camp stove. This light gets scorching hot. I love the light can get that bright, and I have a pistol grip to screw into the tripod mount, and I could still feel the heat radiating off this light. Just be aware it heats fast, and cools slowly. The good news is even on low, there is useful light. On turbo it actually feels a bit scary hot, makes me wonder how much heat these batteries can stand. Speaking of batteries, this is to my 4 Samsung 30Q batteries, what a 707 hp Dodge Charger hellcat is to gas.

Here is a quote from Toykeeper who has both. "They’re a similar concept, but there’s a significant difference in size, beam shape, driver type, and extras. The MF01S is larger/heavier and holds 4 batteries in a carrier instead of 3 in the tube. The MF01S has a big wide “wall of light” hotspot with virtually no spill, similar to a Noctigon Meteor or a triple in a Carclo 10507 optic. MF01S uses a 2S2P 2-channel driver at 6V instead of the D18's 4P 3-channel driver at 3V. MF01S also has colorful aux LEDs and a lighted button and a tripod mount hole."

Different LEDs and colors have different efficacy (output for the power going in) SST-20 5000 and nichia 5000 is a bit low in efficacy, XP-G3 is pretty good (not everyone likes the cool white beam, though) and SST-20 4000 high cri is really low (people say it looks the best, but it comes at a price).

idk man seems like the new one is a step back from the original. new one no doubt has a better ui and a bit more power but has a much less useful beam pattern, build looks cheaper compared to the serious badness of the OG and no nichia option which imo are way better than the sst emitters. the 5k high cri nichia [absolute perfection] option of the first model was really the only thing that made the first model so special because lets be honest if one doesnt want high cri, high output soda can lights are a dime a dozen nowadays

I used your code for a Sand colour in 4000k.
I've got an Olight S1r II and kind of find the 6500k makes me feel sick so I hope I'll be happy with my choice.

Just got my MF01S. I asked Banggood to change it to black and they did.
Thanks for the code Matt!! I needed your review for me to even think about buying from a site like Banggood.
In my waiting time I learnt a bit about the flashlight world and it's nice to know I have a light that's been designed by the flashlight gods.. Lexel, Texas_Ace and Toykeeper. It'd be nice if they engrave their names on the bezel as those names themselves would sell lights.
Unfortunately they didn't include you in the reviewer competition, you'd have my vote!

why have you never done a video on the MF01 mini? the REAL winner of EDC 2020? not that over priced crap you chose? seems you hate on Astrolux ever since they punked out your beloved blfgt with the mf04s and although was a massacre (shamed it out bad) no need to carry a grudge, seems you would welcome newer and better lights, you always are partial to the ones you had "a hand in" through BLF forums and tout biased reviews aimed more at lining your pockets rather than the advancement of the sport/hobby . i apologize for my brutal honesty however i think its fairly evident to most seasoned flashlight enthusist thats the case, i also kinda notice you have never once responded to any of my post and/or questions Adam
