Just a heads up for folks looking to read more into Philodendron and are meeting those gatekeeping portals, copy the link into scihub.wikicn.top/ and you'll get instant free access!
Also, if you message the authors- theyll likely send you it for free as they don't make any money from those portals and are usually a little irked by their existence 👄
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
As a biologist into phylogeny, evolution etc I have to say that the way you went about explaining even these things that took years of studying for other people to get, it shows that you have anything but a small brain! Loved the video!!
Thank you so much 😭 I get very insecure about this stuff because people aren’t very kind if you mess up and I have cognitive challenges, so I really appreciate that!
Please do more of these! This was awesome
I love this!! Hope you'll make more videos like this for other plant families🌱💚
That's definitely the plan!
Pam this video is great. I learned so much. Very interesting, and hilarious. WAP... I laughed entirely too hard at that.
Many little facts I never knew...I am enjoying blogmas... Thank you.
Love all the history & plants nerd stuff! Great video, thanks 🤓💚🌿
Who the hell disliked this video?!? This was so informative and you are a gem ♡
IDK but I have 2 that I'm pretty sure have notifications on because I get 2 thumbs down super quickly every time I upload. It's kind of flattering to be so important to people. I hope it's exes. REMEMBER ME FOREVER BITCH. lol
@@PamsPrettyPlants Haha. I love your attitude. ♡
Thanks so much for this, different to anything I've seen before, I loved it. Looking forward to part two and more like this with other plant families. 😍🌱💚
I don't know how big your brain is,, but your thirst for knowledge is inspiring!
I'm a nurse and in school, and generally have complicated feelings towards holiday stuff... Thank you for giving us a daily treat to look forward to during this grim season.
"Planty Jazz Hands" literal LOL! great video Pam!
Love the makeup brush idea!
Rachel has a big brain!
Love all the info in this video. 💚😃Learn something new everyday 😃Can’t wait too see the rest. 😃💚
Sounds like you understood it pretty well. Thanks for the hard work.
So happy we actually have Vlogmason a year like this and with such good videos! :)
Loving your vlogmas videos, look forward to them each day. Something about your vibe helps calm me and I’m here for it! 💚
I like being useful so that makes me happy 😍
Small brain - be nice to yourself! This was super informative. Thank you!
Agreed!
Very informative video! I really enjoyed it! Thanks
Thanks for watching Tammy!
Planty jazz hands 👋👋 love it! Looking forward to part 2 💚
Love this! It is nice to hear a little bit more than just the grow and care guide. Also a nice tidbit is that most thermogenic species generate the heat to volitalise compounds (aka. produce scent which attracts the pollinators). Some species like T. bipinnatifidum are more stable in heat production and keep it relatively high, whilst species such as M. obliqua can only generate around 1-2C. Very interesting subject. The heat production essentially means taking a portion of the electrons meant for ATP (energy the plant uses) and diverts it as a source of heat. This is why you want to remove a flower before it reaches maturity if your plant is not doing well or is small, because the flower saps energy.
Gah! So cool! Thank you for sharing that!!
This sort of video is right up my street! more, more, more!
Lots of great info in this. I want more philodendrons in my house someday. I only have a few at the moment but I really like them.
Everyone needs more love trees!
For a small brain you certainly have a LOT of excellent information in it. Thank you so much for this. Waiting for part 2. I am also waiting for Becca’s soil mixture to hit Canada.
Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. I am a nerd, plant lover, and casual philodendron collector so this video made me very happy! I'm procrastinating doing online teacher prep at the moment, but you are also renewing my pedagogical enthusiasm with your clear and entertaining delivery. My plants (and students) thank you as well!
As a former educator you have my sympathy and best wishes on prep 😅 it’s a hell of a job. Thanks for doing it!!
Love this video, Pam, thank you!
Fantastic informational video Pam! Great job! Can't wait for part 2!👍
Shirt idea: a little 1.1.1 never hurt no one. Haha classic
I definitely thought about it while editing lol
Love the info in this video!
Thanks for watching Natalie!
If i had to choose Philodendrons are my favs , I’m now propagating some of my favs in my tent over winter 🥰 tfs
Very informative! Can't wait for the next one.. Thanks for sharing 🙏
You’re the coolest AND so smart so knock it off woman! Thank you for this video and all of the knowledge I LOVE philodendrons 🥰 just figured out why my Congo dropped 3 crispy leaves in 1 week, I moved him in front of a heat register 🤦🏼♀️
Whoops! lol
So... I bought a giant rojo Congo for not a lot of money which should have sounded alarm bells 🙄 but I thought it was my lucky day. Same thing with a birkins from a different nursery.
They both have spots (looks like someone had bleach on they’re fingers and just flicked flicked it on them. The new leaves came in clean so I thought it was okay. The new leaves have the same spots now and a neighboring philo is developing the same spots.
What can I do to save them?
I plan to cut them down, save the cleanest leaf to propagate, wipe it down with oregano oil as the is a strong anti fungal oil. Obviously quarantine them away from my other philos... what else would you recommend?!
Could this be why my indoor allergies are worse this season!?
Happy Sunday, thank you for reading and any advice you have to give, much appreciated 💚🍀
Hi from 🇨🇦! What an awesome informative video! Thanks so much and looking forward to the next one💚
Hi Pam from Australia 🇦🇺. Enjoying your videos 🙂
Thanks so much! 😊
Love Philidendrons..my favorite genus...Love your channel..and Love your general life philosophy!
Thanks Timothy! 🥰
OK. When you say deep dive, you mean DEEP. Thanks for the comprehensive philo video! 🙂
Enjoyed this vlog Pam. I love my Philos, glad you're giving them some love. I get mine from plant swaps here in Barbados. Looking for a Silver sword now. Thanks for sharing.💚🎄
idk if anyone else is interested in this, but philo/philia in ancient greek is kind of more like the sense of love for close friends, as opposed to eros (desire) or agape (self-sacrificing love). i think it’s beautiful that they had multiple ways of conceptualizing love :-)
Oh that's so cool!! Thanks for sharing that!
Such a great video! You explained all of this super well and you can tell it is well researched. Really enjoyed it & great job 🌱
Thanks Amy!!
This is so good Pam! Thank you for researching to the point where you can talk about it at ease, It's so interesting. Also the beetle's are crazy infared not so sexy anymore bugs haha! x
Wait til the blooper real in the next video before you assume it was with ease 😂😂 (but thank you!! I’m so glad you liked it!)
So interesting, love the Botany, thanks Pam🙏🌿
Thank you Celine!!
Thank you for all the information. I too am not a big- brainer so appreciate you efforts
I just watched your interview with The Crazy Plant Guy and ran over to your channel. Glad I came. Great info in this video. Philodendrons are one of my fave so to get so much history and education on it blew my mind...like kaboom! 😱 Thanks so much for sharing! I’m a new subscriber and looking forward to grabbing my popcorn and binging over the weekend.
Thank you so much!!! I had so much fun talking to Christian! 🥰
@@PamsPrettyPlants You did an awesome job. I enjoyed it!
I absolutely loved this!!! Thank you for the educational video! You rock mama ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!! I’m so glad you liked it!
this super comprehensive and informative ❤️ i really appreciate the research 🤓
I loved this deep dive. There's nothing more satisfying than learning new things about my plants. And if you have a small brain then heaven help the rest of us.
Oh and I can attest that sticking the aerial roots of my Monstera into the soil has made it grow much bigger leaves with more perforations in a very short period of time.
ooo good to know! Thanks!
More of this nerdy content! Learned a bunch 💚
You got it!
this video is amazing and I love it. Thank you so much for all the work you did for this video!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Pam! I loved this video! As someone who has previously published papers to academic sites like the one shown in your video I would like to let you in on a little “trick”.
Most of those sites give $0 to the authors of those papers. So if you’re interested in getting ahold of a paper for free you can normally email the author, who probably has a copy, and they’ll send it over to you for you to check out.
I know some papers are a bit more historical and it isn’t this easy. Just thought I’d share that with you! 😊
Again, excellent video 🥰
Super informative! I learned something today 💜
This was way more informative than I expected and I am fucking delighted. This video was wonderful and I loved every moment!
RUclips needs another first page of Google info video like it needs more beauty gurus.
(It doesn’t) 😂💚
Wow such an informative video, thank you so much. You are a wonderful communicator. Subscribed ❤
Very interesting and informative, Pam, thanks a million.
You are so welcome!
Very good information. Thanks for sharing. Stay connected. 👍🔔😉
I just found your channel. I thought it was really informative and funny. Don't knock yourself! I look forward to watching your other videos. :)
Thank you! And welcome!!
Love love love the vlogmass! ✨✨
Hi, me again
I just want to say, this is one of your very best videos you made in my opinion. Thank you very alot for this. I am sure this has taken alot time of research. Because I am doing this research frequently and there is alot misinformation and old information out there.
So very great job done here! I am just celebrating it, because it come so unexpected and good.
Thank you so much! I'm so happy you enjoyed it. I'll keep em coming!
Love your videos Pam! If you ever need access to academic papers (because gatekeeping is bullshit) post a request in your stories! I work in academia and I'm happy to pull PDFs for anyone for anything. I'm sure I'm not the only one!
Also cosigning Aran's suggestion to contact the author's directly. Honestly, scientists work on such esoteric niches that we're honestly just super psyched someone is interested and most of us hate the paywalls too.
omg thank you!! Much appreciated!
Thank you, Pam, for this nice summary! :)
Greetings from Germany
Linda
Cant wait to see tomorrow video! Great info you are amazing!
I can’t with “brohelm” 😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Are all Philodendrons from Philadelphia?
:)
Phillydendrons
I love philodendron. Thanks for this really 'comprehensive' information about them. I totally second your recommendation of HeartShaped Leaves how to 'murder' spider mites video. I've used her process many times now with success.
Thank you!!
Very interesting!
Nice plant...awesome....
I learned a ton thank you so much!
Exactly i have very big thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum in my kitchen, and of course I can see the difference between. I am also very interested in how many spicies get reclassified the next years after checking their DNA. Thank you very much for this informative video!!! I did know all that before, but i hope, i gets more newer plant people to search deep information about plants. It's very interesting in my opinion. But Evolution is allways interesting i would say.
I think I am also a philodendron
Girl I learned so many great terms in this video! I always called the cataphil the sheath lol. So did they reclassify all of the Philodendrons like the Selloum? I have a Shangri La that I got from The Plant Farm awhile back and I've had a difficult time finding much info on it. So now I'm curious if it's a Philodendron or a Thomatyphyllum or however it's spelled. Like you I'm a laymen nerd and trying to learn as much as I can about my plants. Btw I've miss you and the plant community, been a rough year I know for everyone but I went back to school as well and just haven't had the time for YT, gonna spend this time before classes start back to get caught up on all the planty goodness.
That is an excellent question! I know the Shangri La is a hybrid of plants that, by all I can gather, would have been in that Meconostigma reclassification. I couldn't find anything just now to confirm it but I'll keep an eye out for a list of the Meconostigma phils so we know which ones are now thams.
@@PamsPrettyPlants thank you hun! Gotta love these mysteries of the plant world!
Love this video!!! Thanks for the research. “Education and research is gatekept by capitalism” yessssss. Basically can’t access it if you aren’t actively in school(paying money to a university)/paying money for a subscription 😣 Catching up on RUclips and excited to see the next 😄
Fabulous Darling 🧡
ICONIC! W.A.P.= WET ASS PHILODENDRON WE STANNNNNN
💦
"love tree" i think because they love climbing trees ;)
Yes someone corrected my translation below to “tree lover!” so cute!!
VERY good video!!!!😘😘😘😘
Pam, I wish I knew how to share a pic, but I was recently gifted a Thallamy Bipinnaf (cuz I’m clueless on the spelling) that is over 30 years old. Huge and gorgeous 🖤
Philo actually means leaf or friend in Greek. Love/affection is “Ayapi” in Greek.
I’m from Greece too
Written differently it can mean leaf (-> φύλλο/ phyllo).
In this case the name "φιλόδεντρο" refers to the plant's habit to climb up on trees (-> φίλος/ filos, i.e. "friend"), or "loving trees", freely translated. Same thing goes for "philosophy", "philology", but also "hydrophily", etc.
Fun fact: Here in Germany we also call it "Baumfreund" (i.e "tree friend")!
I promise I didn’t make anything up. I got all my info from books and studies written by people smarter than me.
All good, Greek people like to share word origins along w food. 😂
Very informative. Thank you.
I'm only getting into philodendron (found a beuatiful Silver Hastatum in our local garden center) so any help is very appreciated.
Btw. Schott is pronounced a lot like "shot".
Thank you! I appreciate the pronunciation help!
You brain IS big and science is cool! :)
This might seem random, but do you know who the artist is of the painting/print behind you? I'm pretty sure I grew up seeing that in a family members' house & I've always loved it. Thanks in advance!
Gustav Klimt! It’s a cropped print of “water serpents II”
The crazy vining one i used to stick thoes tubes that you get when you buy roses
They hold water ;) to keep expensive roses alive till you get home
Anyway stick thoes on the roots lol i did that with my moms when I was a kid and the vine grew longer :) dont forget to fill them up or it will die back
That’s super clever!
@@PamsPrettyPlants lol ADHD kid playing with mom's stuff ;) lol
So those droplets of “goo” are not a sign of concurrent pests??? I’ve been going around my collection treating/cleaning all of them. 😜
It CAN be but if you're not finding scale insects or ants and aphids, it's probably just nectar!
It's not the size of the brain that matters, it's how wrinkly it is. Small wrinkly brains unite!😂😍
LOL
Please come out with photosynthesis bitch merch I want to that phrase to be on everything I own 😂😂
7:11 air b n beatle
😂🙌🏻
@@PamsPrettyPlants \m/, plantpuns are the best
“Wet Ass Philodendron” 😂
Wet Ass Philodendron!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Photosynthesis, bitch 🤘
"Wet Ass Philodendron" 🌿💦
