I have only one syngonium, a small but compact and healthy specimen. It is a "descendant" of a massive plant which my father grew in our living room back in the day. The clipping I got has changed households, offices and countries... My father passed away 19 years ago -- he was a real enthusiast when it came to plants and we used to say that if he stuck a pencil in the ground, it would end up blooming. Sometimes, I amuse myself with the thought that my dad can somehow see me garden and gets a real kick out of it. :) Thanks, Summer!

I feel Sygnonium doesn’t get as much credit as Pothos and Philodendrons among the vining aroids. They’re such great resilient plants, and so easy to care for. Love these plant care vids! And Merry Christmas to you!

@@mkpetersen1607 haha well once you find the perfect blend they’re pretty easy. Try giving it an aroid blend. I gave mine the mix I give my philodendrons, put it in a terracotta pot, and put it in medium light. I water it once every 5 to 7 days and it’s doing well.

My geometry teacher in high school had an enormous arrowhead plant growing by a window on top of a filing cabinet. I coveted that plant but only got one 30 years later. I grew it for several years in a hanging pot in my bathroom under artificial light before taking some cuttings and starting a second plant in mostly indirect light in my living room. I’m not sure why these aren’t as popular as pothos since I think they’re prettier (although they grow more slowly - that having been said the one in the living room exploded about 6 months ago and has been growing like a weed).
I’ve never had trouble with rot although leaves will brown up and die if you underwater them.

My elder aunt used to work as a horticulturalist in her "younger working" days, now she's a retiree... And she had a ton of plants and as she says, about 20 years ago she threw away potful of plants into a nearby bamboo forest due to reasons and till now the syngoniums dominate that bamboo forest along with pothos. They are really huge and mature and some even bloom. I live in a subtropical climate in Assam, India and here we get temperatures down to 5° C(41°C) and they don't seem to mind it.
And i think syngoniums are super underrated! 💚

I CAN NOT EVEN TELL YOU HOWWWWW LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG Ive been trying to find out WHAT this plant IS!!!!!!! Lol! I cant even believe after like 7 YEARS!!!! I finally have seen the same thing that I have!!!!! I got it at the thrift shop I volunteer at like 7 years ago!! THe lady that donated a bunch of little plants she grew as cuttings never came back in or at least never mentioned it was her that dropped them off and for 7 YEARS, lol, Ive been asking anyone I meet that is a "plant person" and NO ONE could tell me!!!
UNTIL TODAY! I actually grabbed a realllyyyy cool vintage Pocket Plant book at the thrift shop (I still volunteer every monday and find the coolest stuff, lol!), which I got for the pictures in it (to photocopy and use for decoupage) and then I seen a pic that looked SOMEWHAT like my plant....the "Sweetheart Vine"....from there, in my recommend was YOUR video and BOOM! THERE IT IS! Lol! Im sooo happy I found it!
Its also funny you say you volunteer at the Sr Living Center, because the thrift I volunteer at is at my local Council on Aging, lol! Too funny!
When these plants were dropped off, no one took the one I ended up with bc it was really sad looking, lol! They almost tossed it until I said ILL TRY IT...Im not good at plants AT ALL, but I also get VERY LITTLE sunlight in my apartment...It get Sun up facing sun, for about 3 hrs in my window before the sun rises up and is then covered by the roof hangover and trees...but this is the ONLYYYYY plant Ive been able to keep alive, lol! Its such a cool plant that has REALLLYYYYYY grown! Im not a great waterer, which is why this plant does so well, lol! I do give it room temp bottled spring water (my water is WICKED hard!!!) For some reason this ole gal does so well in Massachusetts...I literally killed everything else, even ALOE! I swear, if you have a 'black thumb' like I do, this is SUCH a great plant to have.
Thanks for this vid, it took so long to finally find out what she is, but now I know! =)

I often find that sometimes when I observe my plants that they aren't necessarily showing signs of needing water or anything else, but then I check the soil and it's very dry. In that case, I'm not really sure what I should be doing. The same goes for things like too much sun, etc. It would be really nice to have some information all in one video. Thank you!!

I took a ten inch piece of vine and grew it here at home in my plant room. I'm quite sure from your description that it is a type of Syngonium. It is a vining plant with an arrowhead shape. I have never seen one like it in any plant shops around here. It grows very easy and have given cuttings to friends. I placed a 12” piece of driftwood in the center to stake it up and I really like the look...now I can barely see the wood and those roots are INTO the base of the driftwood. I was thinking it may need a repot in spring....looks like the wood will need to stay where it is 🤔I recently added a GE grow light and my plants are loving it. There’s a woodstove in the room and the temperature ranges don’t seem to bother it much, but now that you mentioned it I’ll pull it closer to middle to avoid a draft. Thank you for all that you do. I'm growing Syngonium erythrophyllum 'Red Arrow'. It's pretty nice dark coloured (deep green and purple) plant!

I have two syngonium in my house, the one that grows under a skylight (roof window) grows far more better than the other one which grows on a shelf next to a normal window, second one is less appealing bc it has a deeper green color

This was an amazing video Summer! I loved every minute and soaked up all this knowledge for sure! I've had these growing for about 7 yrs now and have so many around the house. I live in Florida and had no idea about them being that invasive, although I do realize how fast they grow lol. I had no idea the name changed either lol. I'm really thankful you mentioned that. Thanks for all your knowledge and for sharing such great information with us. I can watch your videos all day long girlfriend 😉🌻

The roots are amazing. I love that they can grow on brick walls or metal. So much information. I've never broken out from these before, that's pretty interesting.. I do know they're toxic to pets and that's always great to mention to folks. I have to be so careful with my frenchies. I'm always keeping an eye out for falling leaves. Have a great day Summer. It's always great to see you!🍃🌻

I found one at the store, and my goodness was it so cute and tiny, it’s starting to grow very tall, I don’t have any moss poles but always thought it was a vining plant. It was labelled “tropical plant” which most plants are labelled at the stores here.

Thank you for your clear and thorough presentation of this magnificent plant. I own numerous varieties (Batik, albo, strawberry blush, Holly, white butterfly, pink splash, maria, etc.; perhaps 10-12?) and love them all. Since I’ve brought them indoors- after a hot and humid summer in New Jersey which they loved-, I’m constantly warring with mealy bugs! Also, many leaves are turning yellow and/or get brown edges. After viewing your video clip, I’m thinking they might have a fungal infection…? I’m considering repotting them all into the type of potting mix you’re recommending.
Thank you for the information you’re sharing in your clips. I find them most interesting.

We have this growing under a balcony in the mountains in Southeastern Brazil, where occasionally we get freezing temperatures. The plant is doing fine, probably because of the microclimate in that space.

i inherited this plant from a family friend and theirs was a giant mother plant that was SUPER hardy. at one point all it’s leaves turned yellow and we cut them off leaving a stump and 2 weeks later it came back SUPER bushy and with leaves the size of my face. and in my zoom classes i tend to have cuttings behind me so that i can have a pretty background and the syngoniums often get replaced because the roots actually grow too fast and fill up the container. :))
i also think it’s better than pothos because of the fact that a single leaf cutting is bigger and prettier in a pot than a group of pothos vines :))
