But, it wasn't changed for her public image. She is hugely famous and they wanted her to have a bigger role, so she took on the supportive figure role that Mia's father had in the books so that she would have more screen time.
My favorite part of the movie is when they go mattress surfing down the stairs. When I was a little girl, my brothers and sister would go down the stairs in mail boxes. Not the kind that the mail man delivers mail to but those white plastic boxes. They slid so well.
I wanted to do this so bad but my stairwell was enclosed by walls and very narrow so the twin mattress was the exact size of the hall meaning it didn’t slide very much it just sat there lol.
My favorite part: 'Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.' I was struggling with my self esteem when first seeing this movie and that saying helped me so much!
love the scene when she gets a antique air loom from her grandma and starts shoving it in her bagpack violently saying ill take really good care of this, as julie andrews looks in horror lol

Actually, the books are WAY different than the movie. And when I say way different I really mean it. I would say the movie is just inspired by the books. The plot of Princess Diaries the Movie are just little problems Mia has dealt with in the books, but there is no book that has the same story line as the movies. I'm halfway done with Forever Princess, which is the last book in the original series. There is another book Meg Cabot came out with called Royal Engagement I believe. This is because they only saw Anne Hathaway in Mia's pre-transformation scenes. It was only after her transformation that they got to see her real hair and her without glasses, therefore understanding that it was fake. I saw it in an interview with Anne Hathaway or Heather Matarazzo. If i find the video again I will comment in on this but yeah.

Anne Hathaway drew inspiration for her character from (my personal favorite) real life princess-Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden :) In fact, the dress she wore to the dinner party in the first movie is based on the dress Victoria wore to the 1997 Nobel Prize Gala.
I think there are 2 reasons. 1- it is often used as a "comfort" food and she was highly stressed, 2- her manners were very very unprincesslike: the extra big bites on her spoon and a bit of ice cream on the edge of her mouth etc.

That when Julie Andrews sings in the second film, that is one of the first times she had sung since her voice get damaged after an operation she had to go through. She was very scared but she was fantastic

I never watch this when I was a kid because apparently, all I had to do is to study. We might watch on our television but it's only at night. So, I guess, I missed my childhood.
