Interesting video. Beautiful soaps, love the experimentation 👌 I'm from India and here fabric made from Banana pith silk is used to make saris and other garments. It is a durable textile and has a natural sheen. It's derived from the stems or stalks of banana plants.
I never leave comments. But I just had to, you are so awesome! Thank you for inspiring me to start making soap. It’s so wonderful to enjoy somebody that is passionate about what they do. Thank you so much from London ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Same here! I was adamant that I didn't ever want to try making soap with lye but the more I watched her videos, the more I fell in love with soap making. She has the most reassuring teaching approach too. This channel is the best.
Girl, banana is absolutely amazing on the skin. I put banana purée in almost all my soap’s. I put banana peel powder in my face masks I sell. I do a banana nut bread and I put colloidal oats, banana, purée, and coconut milk and I have dry skin in the winter it’s bad but I use the and my skin everywhere especially my face was beautiful. I put in most of my soap’s and the ones I don’t I put pumpkin or carrot purée in my soap. I know u will luv it.
That was mind blowing. I know of dried bananas being used in soaping, but your soap experiment was certainly an eye opener. I love that you push the boundaries. Keep up your looking out of the square, it's a total education. 😅👍😍😍
Yay, finally I did banana soap ! I've just cut it yesterday so it's not tested yet but I know for sure I'll make it again 💛 🍌 Not only did I put banana peel in lye solution but I also put actual banana purée mixed in oils, and I'm loving it already. And the smell...😍
I just made some banana peel soap, before I saw your post. I love bananas too. I put the peels that I soak in water to water my plants and they love it! SO i thought that whatever it is it might be good in soap. It came out great with great lather! I think I will use it in all my soaps! Thanks for the video.
Love that!!!! Of course banana peels- my mind is like-🤯 what else could we try??? I can hardly wait for the bubble test to see how these are, and trust me, I’m going to be making some soaps with this stuff added- thanks for expanding my thinking into wild places!
They look great I have to try it. I’ve done fresh apple cider soap. I get the cider from an apple orchard and the soaps do turn brown but you can smell the cider and I blended essential oils for more of a cider smell.
I'm loving this series! I've been looking into making licorice extract and found out it had to be heated over 160* and maybe that's what's going on with the lye. Because lye water gets so hot it's able to extract the proteins and other constituents. Anyway, thank you for all this work your doing to show us all the fun we could have as well as great soaps!!
I know its a one year old video.. but i tried the banana flush soap from your other video and i am obsessed.. have to try the banana peel and i happen to have two ripe bananas sitting on my counter so definitely will eat them and use the peel for my next soap.. still trying to figure out the design i need for the soap and colors.. but its a must try thing.. thank you 🙏🏻🌷
Tell the cat I love her chair fabric! Also now I'm really craving bananas!! Also again, now I really want to try this one!!! At the start I was totally thinking that's super weird thing to put into soap. Then listening to your reasonings I thought not so weird after all. After seeing your results, now I just really want to do it!
I really enjoyed your soap experiments, thank you! Just wondering what mulberry leaves would do for soap. It would not use the silk worms product, but some of their food. I have those trees on my property and you have inspired me to give this a try. Thank you!
I simmer my banana peels in water for about 15 minutes, then let it cool before i strain it. I'll freeze it and then add the lye. It makes lovely soap.
I am loving your content! Yesterday i asked myself Just this and today i see this video suggestion hahahaha amazing! I will do The lye with Roses and next this one. Thank you soo much, i learn so much with you! God bless you and your family. I am huge fan from 🇧🇷 abraços!
I actually prefer to eat a starchy banana. Not completely green, but definitely greener than most people eat them. I find they’re too sweet to eat once fully ripened and end up using them in a smoothie with tart fruits or banana bread.
Over ripe banana peels are filled with salvestrols, which is like vegan chemo. I used this for my kitty, and I wonder if the soap will have any medicinal properties...
Heeeeyyyyy Mrs. Soap & Clay! I would send you some banana silk/fiber, but based on your test results, I prefer old banana peels now 😂 It meets the sensory goal, is green, and much cheaper 🤷🏾♀️ This was a great series!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Banana skins are great for your skin! Try rubbing the inside on your face, quite apart from using in cakes for all their nutritional benefits not to mention making soap. It makes lovely skin soap❣️🌸 …except that I add it at the emulsion stage so that it’ll retain as many of its nutritional benefits as possible 😊
Banana skins are great for your skin! Try rubbing the inside on your face, quite apart from using in cakes for all their nutritional benefits not to mention making soap. It makes lovely skin soap❣️🌸…except I add the prepped peel at trace so it’ll retain as many of its properties as possible 😊
Find any recipe that anyone has willingly shared on the internet and add banana peel to the lye. That's the whole point of this series: Add things to lye and see what it does.
And now I'm over here: "What happens if you add banana peel to the lye and sea moss to the batter??" But then any label "a-peel" has just been lost with that combo. 🤣
As soon as it hits that lye solution… It’s not a worry. Unless you’re talking about her eating them. 😂 Then yes… definitely agree they need cleaning before eating for sure.
Of course...why not banana peel 🤣🤣🤣 Actually yes so many things to do with Banana Peels, very versatile and have lots of amazing properties in them. Another great experiment.
I actually said out loud, “Holy shit! That discoloration!” I guess it’s not technically discoloration… but it’s definitely unexpected after seeing the batter.
Do you ever write out what the chemical reaction is when you are working through making these bars? I know you have a chemistry background, so I thought it would be very intriguing to see your process… If that’s part of the process😂. Thank you!
Hey! It super did, went almost chocolate. That said, I used a scent that would discolor, so I expected it. I haven't been able to get a pure white banana bar but can do lighter colors without incident.
I guess, you are using washed organic banana peel, to make sure not soapifying any pesticides. Otherwise I´d rather use the inside of the banana peel. I really like your personality and your quite informative channel, too. Greetings from Germany

I can send you some if you want Mrs. Soap and Clay.

Genius 🎉Well done! African black soap has plantain peels in it so I think this’ll make a fantastic, skin revitalising soap
12:42 loveeeeee the soap 🥺 I love banana products
That is so interesting. Love the way the dark part lightened up so much. A beautiful soap🎉🎉
Guess im going to be digging the banana peels outa the bin. You can also make your interpretation of african black soap with it.

I forgot to add that I let a couple of bananas get really ripe, but not completely black. 2 cups of water for each peel you use.

Gorgeous soap and I love bananas too. In my culture we also eat unripened green bananas, which you can only eat cooked btw. 🥰

All of the bananas.

You are making me want to try this one for sure. ♡♡♡♡

Very cool a must try thank you
hello I love this!!! can I have a list of all the ingredients used in the making of this amazing soap?
Find any recipe that anyone has willingly shared on the internet and add banana peel to the lye. That's the whole point of this series: Add things to lye and see what it does.
This was so cool! Bananas are awesome. How long did it take after peeling did you wait for peel to darken and use?
Actually, I used the peels from overripe bananas that I was saving for banana bread, so no time! Otherwise I’d say a day or so.
Could would you use bananna peel powder? How? Loving these experimenets.
I was going to make a soap today and I think I’ll put my banana peel powder I made in there. Thanks for your suggestion!😊
And now I'm over here: "What happens if you add banana peel to the lye and sea moss to the batter??" But then any label "a-peel" has just been lost with that combo. 🤣
I dunno, I think you could turn a clever phrase on that for the naming and having a winning product! Moss A-peel? You’re on to something. 😂
@@MrsSoapAndClay 🤣🤣 I'm gonna have to add it to the ever growing list of things to play with.
I would make sure to scrub the banana peel really well, as it was probably touched in the store by who knows how many people
As soon as it hits that lye solution… It’s not a worry.
Unless you’re talking about her eating them. 😂 Then yes… definitely agree they need cleaning before eating for sure.
I just brought 100% banana peel powder from an online shop, going to try it in my lye next soap making day 😊

So much nicer!
Ok. Definitely trying this tomorrow. 😊🍌

Ok never thought to eat the peel, my pet bunny George loves them though
How funny ,we have the same chair cover
oh my gosh!! so funny I just eat 2 banana before I found your video 🤣
Bananas are amazing.
This soap look so cool!! I'm sniffing like I can smell it lol 😍
Did you just add to a basic recipe? Im trying to decide what oils to use.
I think I used my big bubble blend for all of that week’s test soaps, but really the addition can be used with any oil blend.
Hi, just wondering did the banana soap darken? Please let me know. Thank you!
Hey! It super did, went almost chocolate. That said, I used a scent that would discolor, so I expected it. I haven't been able to get a pure white banana bar but can do lighter colors without incident.
So u just throw the overripe peel in the lye and strain?!
Wild, right?!?!
I wonder if this would have any adverse effects on someone with a latex allergy 🤔
There is strong evidence to back up a link between bananas and latex allergies, so I would steer clear if allergic to either one.
@Soap & Clay that was my concern 😔 the soap is gorgeous, though!
Oh! That’s a good catch! I hadn’t thought of that.
