You can also get lye for cheap at Ace hardware, Lowes etc, just read the ingredients carefully to make sure it's 100% sodium hydroxide. I adore canola oil, it's in my base recipe plus 1 of my specialty ones

I would definitely switch from olive oil to canola oil if I could find a high oleic canola oil, but all I can find is mid oleic canola oil. I did try a recipe where I replaced all of the olive oil with canola oil and the lather is weak.

I shop most of my soaping oils in the grocery store and not from special suppliers. Our normal grocery stores dont have big buckets of oils, 2l are mostly the biggest. But turkish stores carries 5l buckets of olive oil, sunflower ect. The drain cleaners that you can buy at hardware stores have Additives and are not usable for soap but you can get pure lye at the pharmacy. I only get DOS because of our invironment. Germany is cold and dry during winter but hot and very humid during summer.

How would you label crisco and canola if you sold them?

    • @MrsSoapAndClay

I personally would blow out the Crisco Ingredients and include all of them on my label. I know other soapmakers prefer to not list ingredients at all on their labels or just list vegetable shortening.
