Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

Continuing on with my banana obsession. To nobody's surprise.
Dang. Mrs. Soap & clay has some muscle!
I love banana or plantain in soap! I even roast the peel to create my own version of a black soap. I've also added Banana Oil to a batch. The speckled look is very cute indeed. ❤
I’m an esthetician as well as a formulator for skin care and yes it’s difficult to get fresh ingredients in products that go on the shelf. But you inspired me to smash a banana and slap it on my face as a mask and try that. Thanks for your generous content!
I've been fascinated since the peel soap.
In LOVE with this lather!
@@MrsSoapAndClay That's the ideal lather!
My favorite is my Banana soap in terms of purees. I have tried Prunes, pumpkin, papaya, potato. Potato was nice but drying. Plantains is nice too. My face feels tighter.
I like to mix my lye solution 1:1 then add about 100g fruit puree in oils. My banana soap is my favorite bar that I have available right now.
My left ear really enjoyed this
Shut up is it just on one side again?
@@MrsSoapAndClay also for me. I'm using headphones
I love that. Never switch editing software when you don’t have time to learn it fully. 😂
I loooove banana soap
Banana shampoo and conditioner is fantastic. I used a liquid banana shampoo and banana conditioner when I was a teenager. Great for dry scalps and curls. Xx
That’s nice to know!
❤❤
Depending, i get dense shave foam lather, Aloe gives me a bubbly lather. But my lathers are heavy!
I’m so jealous of your arms… I haven’t watched anything but the intro yet… but I needed to say that!
I love lines in soap!
The sugar quotient colours the batter. /I’ve made two versions of Banana Soap: one using just the peel, which I chopped finely, dried then hand ground (a lot of work) - Banana peels are excellent for the skin so I concentrated on the idea it would make a great facial bar.
I love it, and so does everyone who’s received it 😊 Secondly I incorporated both the dried, powdered peel, and banana purée - to which I added some Citric Acid - apparently necessary due to the fresh fruit. Both versions were delicious, and came out a dark caramel/coffee colour. I left them unscented and love the natural aroma. And they’ve kept exceedingly well. // Yours looks scrumptious- lovely batter consistency. I haven’t finished the video yet….
I love your face soap! Sounds delightful.
I love a color morph and lines!! 😍
Ha Ha! Great shot of the Lather Hand❣️. And I can now see that yours deepened in colour too 😊. Mine were also speckled - with darker flecks from the dried peel. // Excellent result! Brava 👏
😂 I laughed out loud when you cut it and showed the inside colour. I'm going to try this next week!
I swore out loud when that happened.
😂😂😂😂😂
Beautiful soap! Love that amazing lather! I’ve got to try banana in my soap for sure. I’m trying to catch up, I’ve missed a few days… son…Bathroom drains…..and Orbeez. = Nightmare! 😵💫I want to fix it myself so it’s been an adventure and it’s not over yet, but I’m still here and loving your videos! Definitely will put bananas in my next batch ❤️ thanks so much for sharing 🥰
Oof I remember the orbeez phase. They seem like such a fun idea until you realize they’re really not. 😂
I have some banana powder, I think I will try it in a face cream, shampoo and conditioner. I already make a bar soap with it.
Just hangin out in the ether with that gorgeous lather, lol 😅
That lather!
May I ask, where do you source your kaolin clay? Yours is so white and pretty. Mine is light gray, and I am not sure where to get the bright white clay from. Thank you. Love your videos. I have learned so much! ❤
Hey! I generally get mine in 50 lb bags from my local distributor, but this particular kaolin is from Cierra Candles. Dana is great about getting me supplies when I’m bad at planning and need inventory right away.
@@MrsSoapAndClay thank you so much!
Love it! Did you know bananas are actually a berry, botanically speaking? Also you me tinned having to cure for longer- how long did you cure?
I did not know that! I think an extra week will be required because of the extra water.
I love this! Looks like a great soap, for sure!
A little off topic question ... can you use something like milk in lotions? Will it sour and change the scent profile?
Milks can be used in lotions, and they can sour if not properly preserved or if too much milk is used, or if pasteurized vs unpasteurized, etc. I have noticed an off smell in some milk lotions I’ve purchased, and not in others, which could be from the milk, or the wrong preservative, or the oils used. Net/net: it can totally be done, and it is a bit more complicated than plant based lotions so extra steps are needed.
@@MrsSoapAndClay Thank you for this! I had someone ask me to make some lotion for her from raw milk ... I told her I would need to research whether it could be done at all ...
Will it smell like banana without fragrance. I want to make some but not sure of the fragrance to put in if the banana smell comes through.
Hey! I don’t think it smells of much of anything without a scent. A bit sweet, but mostly just smells like soap.
I’ve noticed that it’s usually the same color if I don’t go darker in banana soap 🤷🏽♀️
Would this be possible in hp soap,if so when do I incorporate it
Hey! Absolutely! For HP, I’d likely add after the initial cook with a portion of the water to thin it out a bit.
but where is the r....just kidding great lather the soap pulled a fast one on you for the cut.
😂
