Once it's up and moving it's V6 is decently strong. If it could match the Pilot's stronger acceleration it would be top of it's class in this regard. 3) Seat Comfort: I said above the seat comfort is decent, but it could be better. It's nowhere near as comfy as say a BMW X5/X7 in seat comfort but it's not in that class to be fair. The seats could do with a bit more cushioning and side bolstering. They are large for all shapes and sizes up but not great for side bolstering to keep you in place a bit better. 4) Fuel Economy: No hybrid option yet and with the crazy gas prices right now it's not the most efficient thing on the road for a family hauler. 22mpg isn't anything to write home about. 5) Engine Options: Kia could offer a hybrid/fully Electric variant in the future, or a more fuel-efficient turbo option or for now up the low end torque in the 3.8L. Overall a fantastic vehicle in it's class and it continues in high demand for good reason!

Fun fact, Kia's original logo was an oval because they were a contract manufacturer for Ford in Asia, and it allowed them to easily swap badges on the assembly line, depending on whether the car was being sold as a Ford or a Kia. It was literal badge engineering.

Only thing I like about pilot over this is AWD system, I am really curious as well what they bring in new version in other aspects that it is way behind in, interior mostly.
@@kyron2092 completely agree on everything you said. I might still end up getting one from generation or one with 6 speed from few years ago. I need one for occasional use and planing to get BRZ for daily.
Awesome review as always Alex. I have learned so much in last few years watching your videos, especially about AWD system, transmission, engines that many don't cover as in details as you. I noticed the towing connector 7 pin on back, was that standard as well? I am just curious as you don't usually cover those.
Hi Alex Why does the scorecard say compared to 3 row CUVs under $80,000? What’s a CUV? Also, if the Telluride is a step above the Sorento why so many references to the Sorento? I would think the competition for the Telluride would be the Palisade, Pathfinder, Pilot, Explorer, Durango and the Chevy (can’t think of the name).
It’s worth it to me to drive or fly out-of-state to get the car I want at a better price. A lot of people eliminate that as an option and only look at dealers within 30 miles.
We travelled 350 miles to a neighbouring city and saved 12K on a 22’ Pallisade Calligraphy, it’ll be delivered in 3 weeks! It’s crazy to me that some people don’t bother searching outside their local dealerships
Hybrid option or a mildly tuned v6 turbo will absolutely transform the telluride/palisade. The NA 6 cylinder does the job ok, but it's lacking low end juice, not to mention how hyundai/kia programmed the transmission (lazy shifts)
@@sojourner3300 yes, but i wonder what percentage of people keep their cars nowadays for 200,000+ miles. The old reliable hondas and toyotas of the 90s and 2000s are mostly gone now. Maybe that's by design, to keep making money from selling cars. Also selling you parts for repair.
@@sojourner3300 There are millions of turbos around the world without oil dilution problems. That's a specific engine design problem. They have several fours that would be credible for basing a hybrid on.
Hyundai and Kia are currently ranked 11th and 19th in reliability, respectively. This is for the 2202 Consumer Report data. I should mention that this is owner-reported data, for what it’s worth. Lexus, Mazda, and Toyota are top 3. Seems like the only thing that’s changed since the 90s and 2000s is Honda.
@@moloono1 this argument used to mean something 20 years ago. Modern cars are all mostly reliable. And we're just splitting hairs at this point. I've owned anything and everything from Honda, toyota, mazda, Nissan, vw, bmw, hyundai, etc. I currently have a bmw x3 and a hyundai santa cruz. My parents drive a palisade. And I've had to bring my cars in for warranty fixes here n there. Just makes me chuckle everytime some old timer brings up consumer reports debate into today's discussion.
@@ianemory5800 Again, I'd agree but you specified their new car and redesigns. This is still the older version of the telluride that's been out for a couple years. The redesign/refresh just debuted at the NY auto show. Is that the version you were referring to?
@@theMLBfan I'm speaking of new as in thier most recent redesigns spanning the past few years. The K5 both base and Gt/Gt line, Telluride, the Forte, the Sportage, all have had redesigns in the past few years that look really good.
Refreshes are likely planned years in advance. I'm sure the refresh was in the works before they knew it would be successful as it has been. I have a 2020 SX Prestige and will likely keep it for 5 years. The 2023 has some updates but enough trade in for.
My wife wants a hybrid 3 row SUV bad. We got a new Sienna and it can't be beat, but she still has that whole "mini vans are lame" stigma. Looks like the Telluride still has a pretty unusable storage behind the third row compared though
Not sure why you went through all the effort here re-reviewing this. The 2023 model refresh revealed at the NY Auto show has pretty significant changes and new trims. The one you’re showing has the new logo.
Love my '21 Telluride SXL Nightsky, got it for $2500 under MSRP here in Toronto, it was just there sitting on the lot when I went to the dealership, I know in US if you found something that's been sitting on their lot it's instant $5-10k markup. Good thing this car is not that hot here, but nowadays I'm seeing more and more of it.
although for what it offers, this thing can be considered a great alternative from the traditional luxury brands if you don't already consider this a luxury car because its seriously comes packed and loaded with features
I like the new KIA logo but I would definitely remove it from the back...it would definitely look better and no one would wonder who the manufacturer is.
I like this version better than the palisade but don't care for the redesign and I LOVE the 2023 palisade. I have to say I don't care for the fact these don't get a pano roof. That (and I prefer the dial shifter) are about my only criticisms. I might buy a plug-in hybrid if they offered one. My only other issue is dealer gouging. I'm waiting until things calm down to get a new vehicle.
Alex by the way the traverse is more mini Suberban then minivan as minivans/station wagons are more big car and Full size SUVs and more truck so offroad worthy, can tow and have massive payloads... Which if you want those in a Van you need to ge a big van aka a full size coverstion van. Which costs the same if not more then a Full size SUV.
There's a reason they're cheaper. Hint: VW recently announced they are abandoning the 'Americanization' of their product line and going back to when they were Audi lite. The Atlas is a big crossover and that's about the only advantage it has. It is noticeably cheaper than its competitors inside hard plastics everywhere.
@@kayakkevin nothing is a better value in this segment than the Telluride or Palisade, the sales show it. Plus, reliability is a problem with the Atlas.
@@MDKN22 I havent seen anything about reliability with the Atlas. I do know, my friend with a palisade had his transmission go out at 45k miles for whatever thats worth.
I wish the telluride Xl rumor was true, longer rear end for more cargo behind the 3rd row would be sweet. Might need some suspension tweaks for increasing payload and likely a worse departure angle but let's be honest that last on is rarely going to be an issue for the intended market outside of some fantasy of offloading thier crossover like a wrangler
Honestly the only direct competitors to this are the traverse and atlas, and MAYBE the pathfinder on a stretch, the other 3 row crossovers compete with the sorrento. That is why kia has both.
I really like the new logo. I think it looks classy and I much prefer it to the previous logo. Power folding seats sound cool but they’re slow. I prefer the manual function because of the speed. I’m a huge fan of the Nissan V6 motors but the amount of squeaks, shakes and rattles emitted from Nissan interiors will forever keep me away. Kia/Hyundai need to step it up with wireless phone connections on these top trim models. I also want them to allow me to purchase my large suv with 8 seats at the top trim level. I know the Highlander is technically in this category but the second and third row comfort aren’t even close. The Highlander should really be sold as a 5 seater. Better not let Sofyan hear you talking about those wheels. He thinks every vehicle should be all blacked out. I completely agree that the Highlander aligns better space wise with the Sorento. The Explorer looks handsome and has really strong motors but nothing more as fast as I’m concerned. SUPER thorough review 👍👍👍
Difficult to compare with the hybrid cars. the problem is there isn’t one available for telluride. We have a hybrid we use for around town and our telluride is our trip cruiser. That 28-30 on highway isn’t all that bad and a hybrid probably wouldn’t improve that too much for the price increase it would demand. But I personally am all for any electrified version of the Telluride.
Alex, love your reviews! I have been following you for years. Question: why are you not comparing this to the Pathfinder more? I think they are the two main rivals to each other. In your stats the Pathfinder is not even represented much.
I Doubt Kia/Hyundai will shoehorn their 1.6T/Hybrid combo into the Telluride/Palisades. (I have a Tucson HEV, possible oil dillution problem and other odd design choices) So unless they are willing to develop a V6/HEV combo, which would bump up the price......
@@maga6319 do you have 1.6T +HEV in the Tucson or Sorento? Or a do you have the 1.6T in a non Hybrid product? Are you a Mechanic that services Hyundai/Kia products regularly?
@@markmiller3279 I doubt that too. The point I was trying to make is, to keep cost low, Kia/Hyundai did not try to develop they Hybrid drive train beyond the 1.6T and 6 speed Auto. So unless there is a major profit involved, I doubt they will spend the R&D $$$ to fit a different Engine,Tansmission combo.
I have a '22 Telluride SX - love it. It's truly a very comfortable, quiet, and easy vehicle to drive and own, and the incredible number of features (rear seats are heated/cooled, dual sunroof, advanced safety features), along with the outstanding room in the third row were both very important to me. As a result, I was willing to pay 2K over sticker, but I agree with most who posted - do NOT pay 10K over sticker for this vehicle, even if you love it. No family vehicle is worth that kind of markup. If you are willing to pay that much, consider a Genesis, Acura, Lexus...
I'm starting to like the teliride as a budget Suberban which it is the same sizeish as my 2003 Suberban but costs $10 less then even that... So it is great as a vaule option if you can't aford a modern full size SUV but be warned it's meant for on road only unlike the old Suberbans at least and I guess the Traverse. Which can go offroad and do other truck things like tow and have massive payloads.
Alex, there is consistent feedback from new owners that the Telluride lags when shifting and accelerating on the highway and it is also noisy and makes what is similar to a transmission slipping noise when accelerating. Your comments concerning these issues please
I googled Pro's and Con's for the 2022 Kia Telluride. Plus Googled Honda Pilot vs Kia Telluride, Ford Explorer vs Kia Telluride, plus Hyundai Palisades vs Kia Telluride, etc. There is a lot out there from owners reviews about acceleration lag and engine noise and outside noise and non- smooth transmission shifting!! Gas mileage not quite as good as the other popular mid size SUV's These cons out weight the pro's of roomy inside, roomy third row, 10 inch + info screen.
If you’re upset of having to pay mark up, then maybe a slightly used one could work for you.. Oh wait, they’re more expensive used than new. So what would justify the sale of the new ones at MSRP?
Well I disagree. I was originally going to buy the telluride for the towing ability, but dealers are charging $5 to 10k over msrp, crazy! Then the 22 pathfinder came out, with 6000 lb towing, 20% more than the telluride, and I actually got a discount! Its an awesome vehicle! Pathfinder wins, in my opinion.
I like the Pathfinder, actually. MSRP, loaded Platinums are less than the Telluride. Plus you're likely to get a deal with Nissan. It has great performance now too. The Telluride is nice, but the hype is not worth markups.
@@hellkitty1014 I bought the SV Pathfinder with the Premium pkg to get the 6,000 lb towing and that SV version is a great deal because it includes Nissan's version of adaptive cruise control, plus you get moon roof and captains chairs in the 2nd row, tow hitch and 7-pin connector. I bought a separate brake control module and wiring harness for my RV. I am so happy with my Pathfinder!
@@ReachingOut22 great to hear! Yeah, with Tellurides, Palisades, and Highlanders routinely going for well over MSRP, the Pathfinder is diamond in the rough. Nissan did a quantum leap in styling and refinement over the previous model. The SV Premium has all that anyone would really need. Plus I really love Nissan's tried and true VQ-Series V6. That will likely be the last thing you'll ever have to worry about on the Pathfinder.
For the same price ($61k-65k-ish) you can get into a Volvo XC90 hybrid because of the $7,500 federal tax credit and California's rebates. 455hp, 55mpg. That's what I ended up doing.

I noticed the towing connector 7 pin on back, was that standard as well? I am just curious as you don't usually cover those.
As always, you help me so much. This is my #1 go to for reviews
Hi Alex
Why does the scorecard say compared to 3 row CUVs under $80,000? What’s a CUV? Also, if the Telluride is a step above the Sorento why so many references to the Sorento? I would think the competition for the Telluride would be the Palisade, Pathfinder, Pilot, Explorer, Durango and the Chevy (can’t think of the name).
Excellent work playing Telluride by Spyro Gyra, that wasn't lost on me 😀👍
Getting the exact one in October, can’t wait. Thanks for the video 🇨🇦
@@ohyeah5806 are there any registration fees that need to paid to the state outside your residence? I don’t want to pay more fees/taxes.
@@Elricky124 My understanding is that regardless of where you purchase a car, the registration fees are based on your place of residence.
Thanks for long form insightful comparative review. Great job Alex.
I was at the auto show in Ny and I have to say the palisade takes the cake. More luxurious and power everything.
Not power folding mirrors though, which is annoying...
Hybrid option or a mildly tuned v6 turbo will absolutely transform the telluride/palisade.
The NA 6 cylinder does the job ok, but it's lacking low end juice, not to mention how hyundai/kia programmed the transmission (lazy shifts)
Turbo = oil dilution. Look at current hondas - their engines are no good anymore due to turbo
I would take a telluride or a Palisade instead of a new Highlander but an older Highlander like 2017 2020 looks much nicer
I would take the telluride palisade over any Toyota Highlander or even the new Toyota Sienna. But vs the 2020 and older sienna that’s trickier
Kia is killing it with a number of their new cars and redesigns
I'd agree but what does that have to do with this review?
@@theMLBfan that this is another really slick kia design.
But I don't see much changes other than the exterior and new trims. You could say it's a light refresh.
Alex, can you explain how you measure cabin noise? Your numbers are much higher than other reviewers.
If this car gets a hybrid model I am absolutely sold
Markup to MRSP in South Carolina has been at least $5000 or more.
My wife wants a hybrid 3 row SUV bad. We got a new Sienna and it can't be beat, but she still has that whole "mini vans are lame" stigma.
Looks like the Telluride still has a pretty unusable storage behind the third row compared though
Alex, what would you choose between new Pathfinder and Telluride? I think this comparison makes more sense than Highlander, Explorer or Traverse.
Not sure why you went through all the effort here re-reviewing this. The 2023 model refresh revealed at the NY Auto show has pretty significant changes and new trims. The one you’re showing has the new logo.
Excellent presentation. Very informative. Sold!
if they can come out with a hybrid of this, they have a sales winner on their hands.
When did you buy that?
@@kgindpls March '21
Maybe a time to travel to Tronto and bring back Telli to SoCal!
Ruined by dealers and mark-ups that lift the price into luxury brand territory.
although for what it offers, this thing can be considered a great alternative from the traditional luxury brands if you don't already consider this a luxury car because its seriously comes packed and loaded with features
@alexonautos how does it stack up to the Palisade?
It only gets 21 mpg ! How can it be the best?
How does this compare to vehicles which are rear wheel drive ?
I like the new KIA logo but I would definitely remove it from the back...it would definitely look better and no one would wonder who the manufacturer is.
I wanted to buy a telluride but their dealerships pushed me to the 2022 MDX
enjoy the transmission problems
@@maga6319 username suits you well
@@abcdLeeXY no seriously, you will regret it due to transmission problems
The most common question you'll get if you own this is "What's a K backwards N?" 😆
I love how Alex do Forte joke for every Kia review🤣
Weird no mention of the Atlas in this video. You can get them much cheaper now than really any of the comparisons mentioned.
@@th003g I understand their future intent, but its a vehicle available now and for the foreseeable future that is a better value.
@@kayakkevin oh it’s worth nothing… probably not true those are the most reliable automobiles.
Every dealer and their markups for this ride. This ain’t even affordable anymore lol.
Right price? The dealer markups were ridiculous even before the lockdown.
One Kia salesman told me that people will pay 10K over MSRP, whoever pay 10K over MSRP must be crazy and dumb.
Sorrento is definitely smaller in the 3rd row and Cargo area. Also sorrento reminds me more of a minivan than a SUV...
I like the new KIA logo, but it's just so big. Also, the obligatory joke about how the new logo says KN.
Honestly the only direct competitors to this are the traverse and atlas, and MAYBE the pathfinder on a stretch, the other 3 row crossovers compete with the sorrento. That is why kia has both.
Do the moon roofs open?
I’d love a performance hybrid system like in the RAM and Toyota Sequoia
I'm hoping to get a refreshed Palisade next year. hopefully the prices come down
Dealers seem to think so with their $30k ADM.
As a European, I find it bizarre that the Sorento is the small one. Here, it's the big one!
I've seen a few used or CPO models still holding value.
The new logo is tastefully done well and the old logo was dated and screamed cheap..👏🏿
But I personally am all for any electrified version of the Telluride.
kia needs to put the collapsible 2nd row seat from the carnival for easy 3rd row seat access...
I would blackout the rear end Kia logo to match the "Telluride" badging color
I second Alex's opinion about the black wheels. They would cause me to reject the Telluride.
Black wheel lives matter.
I'm totally the opposite. I'd never get it without the black wheels, so to reach their own.
@@rushmoresociety2577
To "reach" their own what?
Alex, love your reviews! I have been following you for years. Question: why are you not comparing this to the Pathfinder more? I think they are the two main rivals to each other. In your stats the Pathfinder is not even represented much.
I Doubt Kia/Hyundai will shoehorn their 1.6T/Hybrid combo into the Telluride/Palisades. (I have a Tucson HEV, possible oil dillution problem and other odd design choices)
So unless they are willing to develop a V6/HEV combo, which would bump up the price......
No way will they do that, as the gas mileage wouldn't be good enough. More likely would be a hybrid with a bigger four (2.5l?)
theirs no oil dilution problems in the tucson hev kid. Man you people just love making stuff up.
@@NoodlesExtraMSG an accquaintance of mine has a hybrid model and it has had any of that problem you've mentioned before.
If you are willing to pay that much, consider a Genesis, Acura, Lexus...
pathfinder not in the category?
I'm starting to like the teliride as a budget Suberban which it is the same sizeish as my 2003 Suberban but costs $10 less then even that... So it is great as a vaule option if you can't aford a modern full size SUV but be warned it's meant for on road only unlike the old Suberbans at least and I guess the Traverse. Which can go offroad and do other truck things like tow and have massive payloads.
Hmmm..... It needs the Stinger's engine in there.
Alex, there is consistent feedback from new owners that the Telluride lags when shifting and accelerating on the highway and it is also noisy and makes what is similar to a transmission slipping noise when accelerating. Your comments concerning these issues please
I'd like to see the source of these complaints.
I'd also like to see these sources. Everything I've seen has noted how quiet the vehicle drives 🤷♂️
Alex, they just released the 2023 Telluride and you're doing a 2022 model year review? lol
I totally agree. Pathfinder is awesome
+$8,000 for "Market Adjustment" in N. California on a loaded SX. Totally NOT worth that kind of mark-up gouging
I guess if they can sell it that much, it means some people will buy it that much.
I would rather pay markups on a kia telluride or palisade than markups for a Toyota Highlander
For the same price ($61k-65k-ish) you can get into a Volvo XC90 hybrid because of the $7,500 federal tax credit and California's rebates. 455hp, 55mpg. That's what I ended up doing.
Hey KIA, you should pre-load this video on your infotainment system.
6:20 - interestingly, the Palisade *does* have 4-way lumbar. But I think it doesn't have folding mirrors. I would love me a Telluride but for medical reasons, I really need a 4-way lumbar 😞 But P L E A S E give me a bench seat in that top end trim you're reviewing! Same problem with Palisade 😞 Why oh why???
Palisades still don't offer power-folding mirrors, which is so weird considering it is positioned to be over the Telluride. 2023 may address that.
Love the new kia logo...
Show the key in every video Alex, please
Good luck trying to find a dealer that is willing to see you one less than 10K above MSRP. So, NO PRICE advantage...
Always great if not the best review!!
AoA is just awesome!!!
True that Highlander hybrid has high MPG but extra money you are paying hybrid trim, I rather drive “no-hybrid and more fun to drive telluride’ Toyotas are just plain boring..,even ugly looking cars.
Older technology Pilot or telluride is preferred but never toyota! Nope!
I love the looks of the Telluride,,I don’t love the fact dealers are ripping people off by charging up to 12k over MSRP due to “low inventory market adjustment” and that KIA America seems to allow it to happen,,will never buy a KIA because of that.
Telluride and Palisade seem to kill the Pilot.
They also kill the Highlander. Oh wait it already did. And to save time, they also killed the rumored grand Highlander
