It is a good looking car. I’m told that the engine is old-school and for me, the quality is not near Toyota. So I bought a 23 Toyota Highlander platinum with the new four-cylinder turbo and power is incredible. I traded in a Lexus GX, V8, and extremely happy with a four-cylinder turbo acceleration.
Thanks Alex. One of the main things I enjoy about your videos is where you share about the range of motion in the steering column and also the backseat legroom with the seats all the way back. Thank you.
I have been impressed with the Telluride and Palisade since they came out...hopped in that 3rd row and was amazed. I prefer the Palisade for the front end but interior has always gone to the Telluride. I would love to see a hybrid version
Personally I like the pre facelift better. I loved the amber LEDs on the pre facelift. Like this car a lot still though, wish they had a hybrid though.
I complain a lot about the trend towards ugly front ends, even from the likes of BMW; I love driving my Toyota Avalon but I’m glad I don’t have to look at it from the driver’s seat. This Kia Telluride is an example of a maker that gets it right (Lincoln since 2019 has been pretty nice looking, too).
Man I think the telluride is great but this refresh I fell in love with the palisade better. Just looks beautiful and the inside is so much nicer imo so we picked that one instead. But can’t go wrong with either.
Same, before the refresh I was 100% Telluride > Palisade, now I'm reversed. I'll probably wait a year for inventory to build up and to see the cx90/pilot but likely getting a palisade caligraphy.
@@bfish9700 I'm considering the same. Too bad the Palisade doesn't have power-folding mirrors on any trim. Kind of a deal breaker for me unfortunately.

Hi Alex, Brian and all. I’m curious, as I’m cross-shopping the Telluride/Palisade with the Subaru Ascent. I noticed that your Ascent review is now four years old, but in this video, none of the dimensions (leg room, cargo space, etc.) did not list the Ascent. Is there any reason for this or did it just not quite seem to be as relevant. Thanks!
I looked at BOTH the Telluride & the Sorento, ... and (for me), I chose the Sorento as I rarely would ever need the 3rd row seat, in fact I leave the 3rd row "down" to give me a very generous cargo capacity !!! "Thank you" for your EXCELLENT reviews, and help, to guide us buyers through some "tough choices" !!! (Rick from Massachusetts) 👍
We bought a '23 Palisade back in August. We had a slight preference for the Telluride but we only had to wait a month for the Palisade vs. much much longer for the Telluride. Alex mentioned my biggest complaint so far, which is the inability to fold the captains chairs with a child seat in place. In a $50k SUV that is designed for families, I don't get why Hyundai, Kia, and so many other manufacturers leave this simple feature out.
My parents were the biggest Hyundai / Kia fans for a couple of decades while they were pumping out less than quality cars - owned the total of 5 cars from Hyundai / Kia. My dad was one of the first Genesis owners that I knew. Now that Hyundai / Kia finally started making decent cars, the dealers have decided to be dicks asking for way over MSRP for their cars. My parents just drove their old Genesis over to the Lexus dealership and got themselves a new Lexus. I love the new cars from Hyundai / Kia, but I cannot stand the dealer experiences. It's just not worth my time and headache, yet. Maybe things will get better once the supply shortage dies down.
I would give up the dealer experience to get a better quality car. Kia Hyundai Genesis can have the worst dealer experience and still produce better quality cars than Toyota and Lexus Lexus has the best luxury vehicle owner experience but genesis has the best quality luxury vehicles period.
@@naveenthemachine When the dealer asks you to pay $5K over the MSRP and you can get a Lexus in the same class for the same price, that's when you hop over to the Lexus dealership. I think Hyundai / Kia make good cars, but I wouldn't go crazy and say that they product better quality cars than Toyota / Lexus. My family has owned multiple Hyundais / Kias and one Genesis so far. We have also owned our fair share of Toyotas. I have never once thought the Hyundais / Kias were better than our Toyotas in either the ride quality or the longevity. Having said that, it was sad to see my dad being excited to try out the "new" Hyundai just to be put off by the prospect of paying $5K more for the privilege of buying the new car. Yes, the cars are the #1 factors in the buying process, but the dealership experiences do matter. It's a bad practice to turn away a loyal customer like my dad who literally drove in a Genesis looking to buy another Hyundai.
@@joshuaychung if you look at Lexus now and compare it to Hyundai Kia you’ll see that aside from the lc500 the Korean twins simply put out better quality interiors and better design.
Dealerships are locally owned businesses, and they vary considerably. In many cities the same company that owns the Kia dealer will also sell you a Toyota, Ford, or Lexus. How well or badly those dealerships are run depends on their parent company, not Kia at all (or Hyundai). When we bought a Hyundai a decade ago we were entirely happy with the local dealer, and I can't say the same for several other dealerships we visited. We fully expected to buy a Civic (we'd had one before), but the local Honda dealership had terrible sales people who knew nothing about their vehicles and wasted our time. The Mazda folks were less bad, but not especially helpful. The Hyundai people were easy, knew their product, and the pricing was reasonable. We did all the negotiation by email and they had all the paperwork ready to sign when we picked up the car. It all depends on the particular dealer.
Legal and more common than amber in the US. It is at best a slight safety advantage to have amber or they would be mandated, as they are in Europe. With amber LEDs it wouldn't even necessarily be obvious, as the turn signal could look red when not in use.
@@markmiller3279 It's not just that they are red, it's also the placement. One hardly notices when they are flashing. Some cars that use red signal lights have a much more pronounce appearance even though amber is definitely better. When they are not in use is not relevant to the color and your assessment of "slight safety" is ridiculous.
The Telluride is still an amazing suv in its class, it just lost its "macho"-Ness look it had with the previous headlamps. I will personally take a Palisade, old or new, compared to the Telluride.
Honestly I liked the amber lights but for me they were nothing more than a pleasant touch. I don’t understand all this people that says that is break dealer and that the car looks horrible. For some amber lights… is it not a bit theatrical and exaggerating?
The Amber lights previously gave a more bold look that made the car look strong imo. I don't think it's a deal breaker necessarily, because the Palisade exists if you don't like the Telluride.
With all the forums and videos related to honoring warranty claims, questionable financing practices and Quality checks, I just cannot purchase even with what I would say is the best feature package in its class.
I have a couple of reasons I don't like the Kia telluride. 1. There has been evidence that supports claims that they catch fire for the wiring harness connected to the tow hitch. Unless you want the possibility of your Kia telluride to go up in flames . 2. A lot of Kia telluride owners complain about the headlights not bringing bright enough especially the factory LEDs. That's why my 2016 Nissan Sentra had the halogens replaced with aftermarket LED. Disclaimer.. make sure you check before doing this so it's not void your warranty. 3. Yeah it has one of the best warranties out there. However pay attention to the word limited. What that means is that just because it's a bumper to bumper or powertrain warranty doesn't mean it covers everything only limited items. Unlike my Nissan brand which is unlimited. 4. Lack of Anti-Theft technology. You can have the fanciest, flashiest, and high technology car you want. However it means nothing if it gets stolen. My 2016 Nissan Sentra came standard with intelligent key, immobilization system, locking steering wheel, and push button start. With the Kia telluride you only get push button on the higher trims. 5. Kia is the child of Hyundai. Kia and Hyundai engines are known to have transmission problems within the first 50,000 miles.
I guess I didn’t realize how expensive these can be. The fully loaded Telluride is just as expensive as my fully loaded Ioniq5 AWD Limited. I’ll give up the 3rd row that I would never, ever use for the vastly better acceleration, better handling, equal comfort for the 1st and 2nd row, the same tech and no gas bill.
Hi Alex, thanks for the thorough '23 Telluride review! Question: will Highway Driving Assist 2 keep the vehicle even more accurately in the center even more than HDA 1? Thanks!
Still waiting for our SX prestige Xpro to come in. We had a date of 12/16/22, was bumped to 12/31/22. Kia needs to do better on getting vehicles to dealers. Ours was allocated and vin number released on 11/16/22, shouldn't take 1.5 to 2 months to get to the dealership
Dealerships will find a way to drop a healthy 15k markup on top of MSRP. Still a great SUV. But if you really need a three row SUV then just get a minivan or a Hyundai Staria and max out the interior options.
We don't get the Staria in the US, or anything similar, so that's out. We do get the Kia Carnival minivan, though minivans sell poorly here (especially the Kia). I wish we'd get over that, because a nice minivan is a far better family hauler than any crossover, with realistic width for three across the back and much more cargo space.
@@markmiller3279 I thought you guys got the Staria up there. Yeah the Kia Carnival we get down here even comes with a diesel engine gets around 43mpg with an insanely comfy interior. I'm on the fence between Staria and Carnival to move my crew to gigs and have enough cargo for all the tripods, lights, and all the gear. People getting a three row planning to constantly use the third row are insane!
I think that good interior function and space should be a thing with crossovers. That and a decent AWD or auto 4x4 in my opinion are the 2 main points of a crossover. If you cant travel a somewhat rough road, (I'm not talking hardcore) get home from work or wherever if it snows, plus have decent interior space and function for the size vehicle a crossover is almost pointless. So for me the good interior space would be points in the good column if I was in the market for a new car.
The thing that really grinds my gears about this stunner of an suv, is that damn shameful single dual exhaust tip!!!! How much more would it cost to make it a dual exhaust???? Come on!
Check out motor trends last test. They found the 18in off-road tires to be more quieter with inside cabin noise levels compared t0 the larger 20in wheels
No, there aren't any. If you want more width, a minivan is a good option. The main dimensional difference between a mid-sized crossover and a minivan is that the minivan is much wider. It also has a lower floor, but that is less of a difference than the width.
The Telluride is built and only sold in America. The Sorento is a global product, so I think that’s why the Sorento has a hybrid option, and the Telluride doesn’t.
Excellent reviews on all cars with required point to point information 👌👌 please do a comparison review between 2023 Highlander gas version , telluride , atlas and palisade
im still keeping my 21 Telluride. I'm waiting for full refresh of an engine. Maybe EV9 for a full EV Suv version. I wish they had an hybrid, much better for very long road trips. Hybrid and a performance trim for a Telluride would be Godsend. Base model Telluride is such a great deal though if u don't care of luxury type materials.
Hyundai/Kia tend to do one mid-cycle refresh only. I'd expect a full redesign in about three years, though I wouldn't be surprised if they delayed it a year or even more if sales continue to be strong. T he w Pilot is pretty ancient and still sells, which let Honda stretch out the time before a redesign was needed. I'd expect the next generation to lose the V-6 in favor of hybrids, as Hyundai/Kia are investing heavily in them.
The 1.6 turbo would just fold under the weight of this, plus the towing capacity would just go to 0. They'd have to hybrid the 2.4(2.5?) Turbo they have and stick it in here. But since this has the Atkinson cycle they could honestly just hybrid this like a massive prius or older ioniq and be fine
They need to put dual exhaust on these, looks odd only having the dual tips on one side, these days. Also, they should be using the more powerful and less heavy 4 cylinder engine…should improve fuel economy.
Who is really looking at the exhaust tips on a family crossover? It's not a performance vehicle. Having the muffler run across the back is a logical thing to do, and that puts the exhaust at one side.
I personally am glad that all Tellurides come with a V-6. In my experience with four-cylinder turbo motors, they are more harsh and noisy. I prefer the smoothness and quiet of a V-6, and I’m willing to sacrifice a mile or two possibly on MPG.
I will probably test drive pathfinder, pilot, cx90, palisade/telluride and infiniti qx60. I would have added acura mdx but infotainment killed it for me. To me, the palisade caligraphy is the sweet spot where it has just a ton of value for about 50k and I don't feel like I'm giving up much for 10k of savings vs the infiniti (looks, pano roof and second row bench, I can live with those. )
Hello, I have a question, is this car reliable? I heard many horror stories about Kia's even when almost brand new. Other than that, I really like this car as our future family hauler. Thank you for the reply.
It has been around for a few years already and has a pretty solid reputation. I'd be surprised if this lightly refreshed version develops any new problems.
I'm going through the buyback process as we speak. Brand new kia Sorento hybrid s AWD just quit at 4500 miles back on may 25th. They have yet to figure it out.
This and the VW Atlas are essentially minivans that look like SUVs... and it's a brilliant design idea. The room inside both is cavernous and they don't look dopey.
I too feel the same… compared to pilot the feel is ever so slightly OK (very very slightly). People compare it to Suburban and that’s a different league altogether (think company pays some of those reviewers)
Awesome review Alex. In your honest opinion how would you compare the Telluride to the Ford Bronco four door? I know there are a ton of big differences but if you had to boil it down to the nitty gritty what comes to mind?
It was honestly underpriced before. Compared to the competition, it had WAY more features and creature comforts. An SX-P with AWD is still around 50K. Pretty much every other 3-row mainstream SUV top models cost 50K+ and offer a far less impressive design inside/out, features, tech, comfort, and room.
One of the somewhat debatable "safety" criticisms I have seen of this car is the rear turn signals have limited visibility to other drivers when turned on. Thoughts?
I like the interior very much, but for some reason the exterior is not very pleasing in my eyes. I wished it had a sleeker design like the sorento or something. But it does seem to be an overall excellent option even though its on the slower end
Top spec is $73k Canadian... that's bonkers especially with the warranty issues. I'd rather have a less equipped highlander. For $8k more you can have an Infiniti so IDK who thinks people with $80k to blow on an SUV are gonna take the telluride over the the jdm tahoe, the qx80
@@alextube1101 on the website it’s 62k with every option for the highest trim level, and that’s for the off-road model, without all the off-road gimmicks it’s 58k, where did you get 73k CAD, it’s no where near that amount
I was always a fan of the Palisade on the outside, but I didn't like the tablet looking set up of most of the Hyundai's. Now that the interior has finally been updated on the Palisade as well as the outside looking like a "boss" haha, I no longer have a reason not to pick the Palisade over the telluride.
The GV70 is smaller. The GV80 is the right size, and its pricing starts up right where the Kia finishes, which is logical. I suspect a loaded Kia has more stuff on it.
The rectangular amber lamps wasn't that big of a deal for me. The big change is that big gray plastic rectangle in the front. It's really ugly and Alex just glossed right over it. Maybe if it were the same color as the vehicle it might look better.
Great review as usual. Wife has really wanted one of these since they came out. I will admit it is very nice and comfortable. My only 2 complaints is power and questionable long-term durability. They do seem to be pretty reliable but I happen to know quite a few people and have been introduced to people who have had lots of engine failures at around 100,000 miles, not with a Telluride but with other new Kia vehicles. So engine life and such at those higher mileages is a concern to me. The two options I am currently liking more at would be a Ford Expedition and the new Jeep Wagoneer, unfortunately the Jeep Wagoneer is just too much money compared to others. So that pretty much leaves the options between the Ford Expedition and this Telluride as we look to get something in the next few months to a year.
@@y2kpeanut17 Very true. They'd have to charge a big price premium to make any money off a hybrid, and it really doesn't make sense. I'm sure the next generation in a few years will come with very different drivetrain options, with a hybrid possibly the base version (and an EV, or related EV model).
Simply this and the palisade are the best in class. Except the pilot, no future unannounced 3 row Japanese suv can afford to dream to compete directly because Hyundai Kia have already whipped it before anyone’s even seen it
Yeah you ain't getting one at MSRP / Sticker. If you do, drive it right over to CarMax or Call Carvana / Vroom and make a good bit of money selling it to them lol

I just hope they'll offer a PHEV or even just a normal hybrid option at some point in the near future.

Rising interest rates on auto financing is shutting buyers out of the market also. That will leave more SUV's available and reduce the bidding wars.

As of November you can’t find one on the lot! Why is everyone testing the X Pro? How many Tellurides go off pavement?
Ya, but how is the long term reliability on the Telluride?
So far it's been excellent if Consumer Reports is anything to go by.
It’s on par and in some cases better than the turbo highlander
@@AAutoBuyersGuide CR this month rated the Tule right behind Toy/Lex, surprised Hyud was not there.
The thing that really grinds my gears about this stunner of an suv, is that damn shameful single dual exhaust tip!!!! How much more would it cost to make it a dual exhaust???? Come on!
@4:24 "Fuel economy hasn't been Kia's forte in the past..." Every. Single. Time. 😆
Check out motor trends last test. They found the 18in off-road tires to be more quieter with inside cabin noise levels compared t0 the larger 20in wheels
that is incorrect.
Nice review alex
I have a question from your experience
Is there a midsize suv that have a wide seats in first and second rows as wide the full size ?
No, there aren't any. If you want more width, a minivan is a good option. The main dimensional difference between a mid-sized crossover and a minivan is that the minivan is much wider. It also has a lower floor, but that is less of a difference than the width.
The Telluride is built and only sold in America. The Sorento is a global product, so I think that’s why the Sorento has a hybrid option, and the Telluride doesn’t.
Tellurides are sold in Canada too
@@Twinjeremy well, it’s only sold in North America
I bet they will make availability better, but not solved! It does look slightly cleaner.
great review... given a new telluride and a new passport in 2023, which would you place 1st in a head to head?
my pilot exl lease is up soon, i wonder if i will be able to get this instead for the same payment or close
Excellent reviews on all cars with required point to point information 👌👌 please do a comparison review between 2023 Highlander gas version , telluride , atlas and palisade
a guy had his new KIA stalled in front of work place.
The only thing that is holding me back is long term reliability
im still keeping my 21 Telluride. I'm waiting for full refresh of an engine. Maybe EV9 for a full EV Suv version. I wish they had an hybrid, much better for very long road trips. Hybrid and a performance trim for a Telluride would be Godsend. Base model Telluride is such a great deal though if u don't care of luxury type materials.
there will not be a full refresh. This is it for this platform. You are on a platform that is about to be obsolete!
Does it has wireless Apple CarPlay and android auto?
No
The 1.6 turbo would just fold under the weight of this, plus the towing capacity would just go to 0. They'd have to hybrid the 2.4(2.5?) Turbo they have and stick it in here. But since this has the Atkinson cycle they could honestly just hybrid this like a massive prius or older ioniq and be fine
Maybe he meant 2.5 Turbo that the Sorento has. There is no way in h3ll that Kia would put the 1.6T is this big of a vehicle
would love one of these with a smaller displacement V8!
Awesome review!
They need to put dual exhaust on these, looks odd only having the dual tips on one side, these days. Also, they should be using the more powerful and less heavy 4 cylinder engine…should improve fuel economy.
better than fake outlets on some of the competition.
@@gosman949 might as well be fake like some of the competition
Who is really looking at the exhaust tips on a family crossover? It's not a performance vehicle. Having the muffler run across the back is a logical thing to do, and that puts the exhaust at one side.
I personally am glad that all Tellurides come with a V-6. In my experience with four-cylinder turbo motors, they are more harsh and noisy. I prefer the smoothness and quiet of a V-6, and I’m willing to sacrifice a mile or two possibly on MPG.
@@markmiller3279 we’re glad you don’t design vehicles except for senior citizens.
THis or the Pathfinder?
Every brand will have horror stories. Even Toyotas.
in the past, Kia had quality issues. Not anymore.
We have 50k miles on our 2020 EX awd. The only problem was the self leveling rear shocks. Replaced under warranty at 46k miles. Not one other issue.
SX PRESTIGE has the best looking wheels and optioned trim but alas; KIA’s web site show ZERO in the country.🤦🏻♂️
Favorite 3 row at LAIAS :D
I don’t like what they did to the dash. I prefer the previous.
They're quick; until they meet an XT.
GREAT reviews always thanks
"Fuel economy hasn't Kia's Forte in the past..." Groaaaan
"The engineers may have reinvented the wheels..."
Tee hee.
I just couldn't help it....
He’s under stating just how perfect the size is. It competes with the Tahoe, not the Highlander. Just needs the 5.0 and it’s perfect
Tahoe has about 35 more cubic feet of space and can tow a ton more, seating space is similar, but definitely much less cargo.
This and the VW Atlas are essentially minivans that look like SUVs... and it's a brilliant design idea. The room inside both is cavernous and they don't look dopey.
Your calculation of legroom is wrong. It has only 115.2 inches of legroom.
No doubt it's still a great option and value in it's class.
Now that Kia has people hooked, the prices have increased significantly.
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 Agreed.
One of the somewhat debatable "safety" criticisms I have seen of this car is the rear turn signals have limited visibility to other drivers when turned on. Thoughts?
They messed up the front end. That silver makes it look so cheap.
Trust when I say this, I have gotten more compliments that I can count with my telluride 2023
Great review.
Would have loved some form of electrification but with its demand I suppose there was no reason to spend money restructuring it
I like the interior very much, but for some reason the exterior is not very pleasing in my eyes. I wished it had a sleeker design like the sorento or something. But it does seem to be an overall excellent option even though its on the slower end
That color doesn't show off the design very well, either. Kind of drab.
No way, 60k at most, where did you find one for 73k
@@adilsagadiyev5090 kia ca these are facts
@@alextube1101 on the website it’s 62k with every option for the highest trim level, and that’s for the off-road model, without all the off-road gimmicks it’s 58k, where did you get 73k CAD, it’s no where near that amount
@Adil Sagadiyev taxable total in ur driveway?? Click the tax button and stop wasting my time. 13% provincial ontop $74 for a license
@Adil Sagadiyev kia charges Canadians like 2 grand in destination...
Geez $55,000. I thought H and K were all about value?
I was always a fan of the Palisade on the outside, but I didn't like the tablet looking set up of most of the Hyundai's. Now that the interior has finally been updated on the Palisade as well as the outside looking like a "boss" haha, I no longer have a reason not to pick the Palisade over the telluride.
And yes, if the Palisade/Telluride lineup had a hybrid so people can save on fuel, they would sell like hotcakes!
@@adamwright9741 They're already selling every one they can make.
Love the Telluride but at $55k you are competing with some luxury options. Fully loaded turbo 4 GV70 is $56k. Base GV80 is $55k.
The GV70 is smaller. The GV80 is the right size, and its pricing starts up right where the Kia finishes, which is logical. I suspect a loaded Kia has more stuff on it.
GV?….that’s the same company.
I LIKE THE TELLY WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT BUT THIS NEW ONE NOT AT ALL
Amber LED lights are a deal breaker.
Hybrid telluride would be so awesome!
Big L for Kia to not include a hybrid offering. I know it would be an instant buy for many.
They already can't keep up with demand. Adding more drivetrains would just make availability worse and decrease profitability.
@@y2kpeanut17 Very true. They'd have to charge a big price premium to make any money off a hybrid, and it really doesn't make sense. I'm sure the next generation in a few years will come with very different drivetrain options, with a hybrid possibly the base version (and an EV, or related EV model).
Kia Selluride
NO FRAME AND NO TOW HOOKS! AWD WILL STILL GET YOU HUNG UP.
Simply this and the palisade are the best in class. Except the pilot, no future unannounced 3 row Japanese suv can afford to dream to compete directly because Hyundai Kia have already whipped it before anyone’s even seen it
Not an option until a PHEV model is available with more power and better for daily usage
Too bad Kia doesn't use the non-turbo 2.5L with the hybrid and PHEV instead of the 1.6L turbo.
The 2.5 is almost certainly less efficient than the 1.6t. In hybrid and PHEV’s mpg is king.
I like Alex
Please make a hybrid version. Please.
So many ignorant people commenting that Kia is a trash brand
Yeah you ain't getting one at MSRP / Sticker. If you do, drive it right over to CarMax or Call Carvana / Vroom and make a good bit of money selling it to them lol
Would have probably bought one if they had a hybrid but I guess they're just going to jump to full electric it was probably not necessary to deal with.
MSRP plus 5 to 10k ADM 😂
These analysts decide your fate in 20min ..LOL!! Choose wisely… I never pay premium prices for these Kia /Hyundai high end vehicles. They look great but no go as long as they are make reliable engines
The constant refreshing is killing the resale value, they could learn a thing are two from Audi and some Lexus models, and BMW too
