The Kia Telluride has been the no-brainer choice for a 3-row family SUV for the past 3 years, however today we pit it against the redesigned Honda Pilot! For around $50,000 to spend, which one of these would you choose? Let us know below!
My aunt had a 2020 Telluride LX (Base) & in 3 years she put over 100k miles. Never had a issue. She has now upgraded to a 2024 Telluride SX prestige. I have a 2019 Kia Forte EX with 98k miles never had a issue. My Dad Has a 2021 Sorento SX prestige with 80k miles no problems & my mother upgraded to a new Sportage SX from a 2017 Sonata with 227k miles . We are a big Kia/Hyundai Family & never had problems with Kia &/or Hyundai. They have stepped up big time! Take care of your car and be precise with oil changes / maintenance & they will last forever!
Last forever....😂 I'm glad you had good luck within your family but Hyundai "KIA" power train qaulity is still a major issue. The spend more time in tech features then quality with engines and transmissions sadly. I want them to build 300k mile engine and transmission combo that the Pilot has always been and so far that's not the case to many major flaws in design. I have 235k miles on my 2005 Pilot still drives better then most new SUVs and power train is smooth. So KIA sells you bling instead reliability great for a lease but terrible for long term purchase sorry there moving to EV's so appears they will never hit Honda or Toyota Reliablity.
@@robertblack6630And my brother has a Kia Spectra with 212,000 miles with no mechanical issues. It still runs like a new car. I don't know why you are trying to troll but it is quite a bit tacky of you.
@@robertblack6630 Why would anyone want to drive the same vehicle for 18 years? That’s the kind of car you give away to your niece when she gets her license. Or just pick any young kid that needs a mode of transportation.
@@naveenthemachine we are Honda family but Japanese car makers need to step up. For your reality check, please go to car dealers and drive some of them and stop being a keyboard warrior. Seriously go test drive these cars and you will the know difference. Yes, Korean car prices has gone up but so did everyone else’s car and you still get more for Korean cars and we are not taking about free floor mats either.
I drove both of these cars(telluride multiple times), telluride sx prestige xpro and the pilot trail sport. The pilot is more solid, no question. The Kias drive quality and road noise absolutely does not compare to the pilot.
I own a 2005 Honda Pilot 298,000 miles still drives like new such a Wonderful Vehicle I kept it and bought my Wife a 2023 Honda Pilot it’s Proven Long track Record ,best engineered
People will tout Honda's reliability when they have significantly slipped every year. Toyota, Lexus and Mazda are currently and have remained the most reliable Japanese brands. Honda is nowhere close to them. Oil dilution issues, engine problems, gearbox issues, you name it but people will blindly praise Honda for being Japanese. The previous gen Pilot had average or below average with many issues depending on model year. This new Pilot has a new engine so reliability is not something you can just determine. The Telluride has high customer satisfaction with decent reliability due to the V6 and 8 speed. It's an amazing car, and the class leader since 2019 for a reason. The new Pilot didn't do enough to catch up with the Telluride. The CX-90 has compromised on practicality and has an all new engine with a poor gearbox. The Grand Highlander is the only vehicle worth considering with the Telluride and Palisade, but still lacks some of the extra features and luxury, though it at least has a hybrid engine as a big pro. With rumors of a brand new Palisade and Telluride in 2025 with a hybrid engine option, I think the Koreans will further their lead in this segment. It is absolutely insane to think both those cars debuted in 2019 as a first effort, and took over the market by a storm, while being ahead of their time. 4 years later, and they're still sought after and holding their own against brand new competitors. Their reliability has also improved with their new engines. Hyundai and Kia are making amazing cars, and here's hoping their reliability holds up.
I'm glad I read this. now to do research on honda motor and trasnmission issues. I was leaning more towards 2024 pilot but now need more mechanic reviews. 2024 telluride prestige vs 2024 pilot elite. lets see which vehicle can last 200k miles.
Six fixes for the refresh that Honda ought to do and it will be crushing it: a hybrid component in Honda's V6 engine for better fuel consumption, some better leather interior color options across all trims, a 12" entertainment screen, improved Honda sensing technology, improved sound deadening, and the option to have captain or bench seating in the 2nd row in all trims. Do this, Honda, and you'll be crushing this segment in sales.
@@averagejoe112 You act like it's a 2004 Infiniti or something. It's fine, there's nothing wrong with it. I bought a 2024 Pilot Trailsport last week. The only thing I don't love is that the backup camera is a fisheye lens instead of a standard lens, whereas my 2020 Accord had a nice 180 degree view that was more useful. The fisheye makes for a strange view, but the overhead view makes up for all of that, and comes in handy in all parking situations. Otherwise these are big, comfy, spacious SUV's, and mine did great on the sand at the beach the other day in sand mode.
@@redcapote4760 at the trailsport price point it's fine. At the elite price point I think it's overshadowed in luxury, technology, and comfort by other brands. The fit and finish is great though.
KIA goes all out in terms of exterior and interior design and value for the money. Honda just does what it has always done but is it enough anymore? Is this the best Honda can do? I don't think so....and I think many would agree this current Pilot could be so much more than it is.
Trust me Honda needed this new competition to get going , they got lazy for a bit but that’s what happens when you’re dominating the segment for so many years
@@lollmao9199 no they didn’t get lazy. Hondas a class leader. Why else are the civic accord crv ranked at the very top of the class? Because they’re ahead So you’re wrong. Hondas just fine. They’re more competitive to Hyundai Kia Mazda because they strive to try. That can’t be said for some brands
I would choose the Honda. The Pilot is the bigger vehicle, drives better, probably more reliable, better looking in my opinion and slightly more capable off road.
Just got the Trailsport and love it. It drives great at freeway speeds and is more capable off road. Check out RUclips off road tests. They say it's the best crossover off-road performance vehicle.
Thanks for the direct comparison of these two vehicles. My wife and I are considering one of these two utilitarian SUVs for our next car to replace my wife's 2015 Acura MDX. Will definitely be looking at the Pilot Elite. Will also consider the Acura MDX and Genesis GV80.
It really depends what you want. These two options have a lot more space inside than an MDX and a GV80. The Telluride has more features while the Pilot will be more reliable and has better driving dynamics. Also if you need 8 seats, Pilot Elite all the way.
@@aa6355-r4m that’s a great car but its $5k more and has a few less features. Also non touch screen with annoying touchpad, much higher maintenance costs, premium gas and higher insurance. Lots of other factors that make owning an MDX (or any luxury brand) more expensive than just the price you buy it for. The Pilot is much bigger inside and seats 8. That could be a big factor. Also to get the same features as the Pilot Elite, you’d need to go for the MDX Advanced which is $12k more. The Tech package is missing a bunch of features, that’s why it’s comparatively priced.
If you don't need the space and can afford it, I would go MDX all day long. My sister-in-law has a 2012 MDX and it drives a lot better and quieter than my 2017 Pilot EX-L.
@@mrtyrang fair but your Pilot is cheaper to maintain and takes regular gas. Both still big deals. For me I need the space and the Pilot gives a lot more than the MDX.
It would've made more sense to compare the Telluride to the CX-90. You buy those two because they're nice, and come loaded with tech. You buy the Honda Pilot because it works.
@@Lucky8s Well I mean, it's a somewhat of an unfair comparison here. The KIA Telluride is marketed as being between a mainstream and premium brand, while the Honda Pilot is marketed towards mainstream buyers.
@@dave_riots Both are part of the mainstream segment so the comparison is fair. Buyers will cross shop between these vehicles. It's like the CX-5 and RAV4. Some people hold the same opinion as yourself, that the CX-5 is marketed as more premium, but buyers still cross shop it with the RAV4 regardless and many forgo it's marketed features in favour of the RAV4.
Interesting perspective, but I have a feeling in 15 years you will not see the kia on the road. I actually don’t like either brand. But still. I have an 11 year old Volvo SUV that keeps going with all the other old ones.
@@2steaksandwiches665 to say in 15 years you wont see them on the road is incredibly unrealistic, and while I like volvo the past few years have been extremely challenging for the brand, admitted by them.
@@vonsgone sure it’s a hyperbole, but how many ancient Honda pilots do you see on the road, beat up and still going? I just don’t trust Kia and Hyundai as a brand yet. I drive a brand that is considered to be very unreliable Alfa Romeo. And yet recently with some quality scores it’s surprising everybody. I don’t buy cars necessarily for reliability. Most reliable cars are not terribly fun and I’m a drivers guy. Most mass produced cars that fall into the rental car category are fine for most people, but definitely not for me.
@@vonsgone also, my Volvo is before they added touch screens. It’s the original XC 90. Those things are becoming like the old 240s in terms of longevity.
Went with the Pilot 2023 over Telluride for 3 reasons: 1. removable center seat (touring trim and above only) 2. Wireless Carplay 3. We fit a large, medium and small suitcase behind the 3rd row of pilot. Couldn't w/ a Telluride Both are very nice vehicles.
sold telluride in 1 month, was debating grande highlander hybridmax vs pilot. eventually went with pilot because of removable seat!! it could be 7 or 8 seater. No other car in segment had that !!
great to hear. I test drove pilot on saturday. about to go test drive telluride in a bit this is a great video comparison for me. I prefer honda interior color in this video. 2024 is what i'm buying. the Famous v6 honda motor and transmission is hard to beat. Unless Kia has a much better price to sway me to kia.
The only downside on the Honda is that it doesn’t have a 12 inch screen with Google built-in from the Accord, it’s the only thing it needs to win over Kia. I would take Honda Pilot Elite with 12 inch screen over the Kia any day. More storage space, better AWD, seats 8 on the top trim, better reliability. I am 2019 Pilot owner, 4 years later, it still drive great without any issues, the only issue it had is that infotainment screen is glitching, but it has been fixed, and no issue afterwards.
Very informative comparison. I own a 2023 Kia Telluride and in mixed city/highway driving, I get almost 22 mpg. Your 18 must be based on mostly city driving. There are some quirky things about the Kia e.g. the engine cutoff when stopped, which you can turn off, but it always resets to on when you restart the vehicle. There are third party devices you can install that remembers you last setting. The lane keeping on the Telluride is kind of jerky. The car will wander to one side, then make a semi-aggressive turn to get back to center. Braking using adaptive cruise control to maintain distance to a car ahead of you can also be somewhat aggressive. The EX models do not have the front obstacle sensors, which is odd. Only the rear sensors for backing up. There are some other mechanical differences between the two (the fuel injection technology on the Honda keeps the lifters clean and hydraulic lifters on the Pilot don't require shimming when resetting the lifter clearances like on the Kia). The Kia engine has a timing chain vs. a timing belt on the Honda.
When you say reliability how long / many miles do you keep your car to care about that? Also have you seen the engine failure with Kia ? I like Kia But let’s not pretend the NEW kias are better than the OLD ones. PREE 2011 Kia was better. They didn’t improve reliability it actually went down and their trying to rekindle it.
@@Natethegreat200cAnd are you talking about the 2013-14 models that were made in Alabama and had the 4 cylinder engine? Because those were known to be problematic. This is a V6 and beyond 2013-14. Kia vehicles have been known to reach 300,000 miles or more quite easily. So I don't understand your question here.
@@Natethegreat200cI have a 2016 pilot and the engine failed at 126k miles so Hondas reliability isn’t much better. Im a Honda person I have the pilot a 2012 odyssey with 266k miles and a 2021 accord 2.0t and I’d choose the telluride. Long term the resale value on the Honda will be slightly better but not by much. Certain Kia’s like the telluride and carnival really have strong resale value I’ve seen.
Wireless Android auto and Apple carplay can be easily achieved by adding a $50 add-on device from Amazon. I am using this device now and seems to work as reliably as a factory built wireless connection on other cars.
@andersonrodriguez8258 not necessarily. I've had mine for over five years and no issues. Keep in mind cars are man made tech. Anything can go wrong with any car regardless with how good or bad reputation is. Depends on what you are looking for. Not all Kia/Hyundai vehicles suffer the same fate.
Regardless of where they are actually produced, traditional Japanese imports always have been the best option. I cannot say that the Telluride twins will hold up over time or honor their design heritage the way that the Pilot has. Yeah the Telluride twins are cute now at this point in time, but what else? The KIA Rondo was cute too when it came out but... now what?
I think I would go with a used 22 MDX over either one of these. If I had to pick one, I would go with the Pilot hands down. I own a Honda CRV and Toyota Highlander currently. I'm researching the Grand Highlander but I'm not sold on a 4 cylinder engine for such a large suv. I don't care about turbos. I actually think they shorten the life of the engine. I can't believe a turbo 4 cylinder could tow a 5k boat any distant without damage to the transmission. Not sold on the new Toyota's with all the 4 cylinder engines
Trailer trucks are only 6 cylinders with humongous turbo. They tow tons. All the newer turbos are built for long term use. Turbos produce more torque for towing especially at lower RPM. Naturally Aspirated V6 have to whine out a lot in a higher RPM to hit the torque numbers to tow. So turbo engines work less to tow.
Pilot all the way. Wireless Airplay and Android auto is much more important than 3 inches of screen, To me, the wireless aspect gives Honda the advantage in the infotainment. Better looking interface as well in the Pilot. The interior in the Kia to me looks outdated and old. Pilot is clear winner in my opinion.
In a vacuum the Telluride and Palisade are better options than the new Pilot. More features, a bit more luxurious interior and bigger infotainment screen. But we live in the real world where people buy these expensive cars to run for a long time. Reliability is a big factor and the Honda will just be more reliable. For me I’d pick the Pilot Elite. You get most of the features you’d get in a Telluride or Palisade, still 8 seats (not available on higher trim Telluride or Palisade), better driving dynamics, and better reliability. I didn’t find the 9 inch screen too small at all. Obviously I’d like bigger but it wasn’t a con for me. Also good luck getting a Telluride or Palisade and if you do, it’ll be marked up $5k-$10k. The Pilot Elite in my area was marked up $0-$1k in most areas and one place it was $3k. Other huge factors to consider versus just one is nicer inside than the other.
I agree mostly but Honda should have had the 12" touchscreen standard on the all new '23 Pilot. The 9" looks like it's from 2012. Also, they need more interior color options on the Trailsport and more standard features. Can't get HUD, cooled front seats or premium sound system. etc. Also, an Elite Trailpsort trim loaded up with all the goodies would be a nice option with better sound dampening from the off-road tires than the current Trailsport.
Exterior on both are great but Kia wins over all. Kia is more 'now' whereas Honda Pilot's interior is very '5 years ago.' But having the better engine is a plus.
@@davewilson7602 I suspect it does drive better. As the reviewer stated the engine sounds better and Honda is known for their engines. When you are young you are usually concerned with looks over utility and reliability, so of course buyers will be interested in the Kia. Also Kia was once known as a value brand, so you are getting more bang for your buck. Once upon a time reliable was important but these days most ppl lease or they purchase and trade in within 3 to 4 years.... No one keeps cars like they used to. Call it the iphone effect. Not saying I agree with Any of these points, just giving my observations.
@@OmarHudson I absolutely agree with your points. It’s apparent that the people who can get financed for 50k and want an SUV in this category value those flashy things. They are disposable in the eyes of the consumer To be fair I’m biased because I have one of these Pilots on order, but I also expect to keep whatever I buy for 15 years. None of the American brands convinced me they would last that long and Toyota/Nissan I didn’t like for subjective reasons.
@@davewilson7602 most products are not built to last these days. I have had flat screens that only have lasted 3 years....the old Panasonic, Zeneith Magnavox televisions made 20 to 30 years ago are still working. Same with cars, I would love to own a car for decades like my father did back in the day but these cars just don't hold up. I have also read where Toyota and Honda's reliability ratings are taking a dip. Those car brands built a reputation on reliability. Brands like Mazda and Kia are scoring higher than before ( I know, we are all shocked). If you don't mind my asking, why did you not consider a Toyota? Just curious. I have always liked Honda's design over Toyota. But I have always secretly wanted a Toyota.
But Hondas build quality is among the best. It uses high quality materials like Kia and has satisfying controls and knobs that aid to the overall refinement
The Pilot's interior is a middle finger to consumers and loyal Honda customers. I love a simple interior but the Pilot's lacks effort. Honda can do better, they just chose not to.
While Honda has been associated with quality and reliability in the past, they have also always rated at the bottom in terms of attractive design. I don’t think anyone will ever get over the moon patrol former generations of the CR-V. This Pilot is definitely a step in the right direction as well, but that just brings it to a level of not being unattractive. It just needs more creative and modern design cues to excite potential buyers. The Telluride has never failed to be exciting, and only gets better every time they refresh. Same goes for the Pilot interior which is definitely below average for this size SUV. The Telluride interior speaks for itself. It’s difficult to understand why some car companies are resilient to leaving the past behind us.
@@naveenthemachineYeah. I would actually agree with that. Despite the below average looks of the CR-V for many years, which is finally now much improved, I feel Honda wins the looks battle and has more satisfied customers overall. If I were to venture off from KIA/Hyundai though, I feel I would definitely pursue Mazda. I have before, but they were just too expensive for my budget. Just two months ago I got in a new lease for a 2023 Hyundai Tucson Limited for a phenomenal deal that kind of fell into my lap. Absolutely loving the dynamic looks, incredible ride quality, and upscale sleek interior.
@@naveenthemachinereally? The only thing honda has that’s interesting is the civic type r, meanwhile Toyota has the gr Corolla, supra and gr86 which are three different sports cars. And before you say “but Its not real Toyotas” While that is true for the supra and gr86 atleast Toyota chose two reputable brands to collaborate on low volume sports cars unlike honda which thought that collaborating with Gm one of the worst automakers in the auto industry just to make another cookie cutter crossover was a good idea 😂
I think you're maybe misunderstanding the 3rd row buttons and their uses. First you said the Honda didn't have one up top, which it does, then when you showed it a few minutes later, you called it "hidden". On both vehicles, the button on the bottom is for getting into the 3rd row, and the button up top is for letting yourself out of the third row. You're not meant to use it while getting in, therefore it doesn't need to be seen unless you're getting out of the 3rd row. This design has been around since Honda introduced it on the 2016 Pilot, and then Hyundai/Kia just stole the idea.
I can't believe that Honda wasn't benchmarking the Telluride when designing the 2023 Pilot, and yet we get the most spartan looking interior I've seen in awhile.
Ill take the pilot too!!! Also in 5 years my pilot will be worth way more. That doesn't matter to everyone but it does to me. I have a 2015 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Coupe with an in house Honda made 6 speed automatic and was offered 16k at a dealer. My sisters equivalent Hyundai sonata was offered 6k. Same mileage. You simply cannot compare the two brands quality standards. Especially over the last 65 years! Hyundai kia have been around that long.
Telluride…..Quicker, quieter, more tech (blind spot cameras) nicer interior, adjustable seats for the passenger and higher quality overall. Honda has the ability to do better. I have had numerous Hondas, (accords and pilot) now own a telluride and love it. Time will tell longer term on reliability and resale. Made in an advanced Georgia plant.
Thanks for the comparison. Does the Honda fix their wireless charger in the pilot? I do have the 2023 passport touring and the wireless does not charge the phone 12 and higher. The charger will goes on and off and back on all the time. It will go like that. Apparently this is a bug that the do have for a while and did not fix. (Dealership confirmation)I am curious to see if the new pilot, they fix this. It can be annoying for that price tag and you have one accessory not working as it should.
I was just given a 2023 Pilot EX-L as a loaner while my 2016 got a timing belt change, and the wireless charger worked great for my iPhone 14 Pro with an apple leather case on it. No disconnects at all that I saw. I hope this helps.
If I didn't step out of my 2019 Honda Passport EXL to test drive a 2023 Kia Telluride SX prestige, I'd definitely be sold. Except Kia really has no idea what their doing with SUVS when it gives to driving mechanisms. The Sorento looks good but drives so badly. And then the Kia Telluride looks perfect but drives like a 16 wheeler. It feels unreasonably heavy especially when you floor it. My mom's 2003 Toyota Sequioa drives better. Kia has a long way to go before I can feel comfortable driving one everyday.
Yeah the Kia looks great on the internet with the interior looks and the toys, but if you drive them you can see which had more thought put into the engineering. The Pilot drives almost like a German car, it’s very coordinated. Telluride doesn’t feel as sound.
My sorento drives great. More power than Telluride, pilot, cx90... cheaper for top of the line, and looks better. My only complaints are no memory seats, no wireless carplay, and with the digital dash, a boost meter would be fun to show in sport mode.
I've always given Kia/Hyundai/Genesis a fair shot when picking a new car. The thing that's always stood out to me, across every car they make, is the throttle response is absolutely awful. It doesn't feel connected to the engine at all; you get different engine responses given the exact same throttle input. Suspension is also extremely floaty, which gives laymen the impression that it's good, but all that floatiness comes with a major lack of control. Steering feel is also similar to the throttle, doesn't feel connected, seems to change every time I take a corner. This is something Honda excels at; the driver inputs are some of the best in the industry in terms of feel and responsiveness. If driving feel is anywhere on your list of importance, the Pilot is a no brainer here.
I honestly feel the Pilot will upgrade the screen to the new Accord screen next model year. The Selluride seems like the better option but I would probably pick the Pilot based on reliability. I've seen too many stories on social media about the Telluride's engine problems.
Compare resale value. If you drive your vehicle for years and until it isn't economically viable to repair it it is a good value. If you trade your vehicle or sell it every few years any Honda model will retain more of its value compared to a KIA or Hyundai.
@darkivaz-aaa1145 Maybe you should do a little more research. The Telluride is infamous for transmission issues as well as electrical glitches. Very few KIA and Hyundai vehicles last 300,000 to 400,000 miles without major repairs or replacement of the engine transmission and other driveline components.
I ordered the Pilot - It checks all the boxes for what I need and I was very impressed with it when I tested it. Also, you're the best in the industry at this stuff. Great work.
Let’s just say I have the luxury of driving 90% of new vehicles that hit the market. I got in the 2024 pilot and I could just tell I was driving a superior vehicle than any Kia and even Toyota I have driven. I bought the 2024 touring the next day
They both are good looking vehicles to me but the Pilot in the rear looks a little bloated for my taste. I’d go with the Telluride but would need the blacked out appearance package.
hey guys, my 2024 pilot has 8k on the odometer (KMs) but its mileage sucks... it's consuming 14L per 100 KM... this is the first time I've bought an 8-seater so want to know if the fuel consumption gets better with time? perhaps after the first service? LMK. Thanks.
Your transmission switchin issues could be related to economode, when all or some cylinders shut down. Switch to normal mode and disable engine shutdown and you will have no complaints with transmission on honda pilot. Remember, economy comes at price.
@@ryanb8736 ok, no issues on my side. Maybe I am lucky, but, based on discussion with others, i am doubting so. 1k miles. Take note, I hate sport mode, I would call it downshift dumb mode. Car is not user friendly for many and unnecessary complex.
One important difference between the two is road and wind noise. Telluride, especially in the SX Prestige trim is library quiet at 63 decibels going 70 mph while Honda Pilot is very loud around 69-70 decibels
Funny thing is the pilot is actually a high quality feel to the touch although the design is too drab. My comparison was to palisades mid trim-which felt cheap and flimsy despite looking great.
I had a 2020 telluride and the engine went out at just 130k. Dealer replace the engine at no cost but then the transmission started having issues at 160k by then I traded the car and done. I will never own one again.
Kia/Hyundai's advantage had been value for lower cost. Equally priced, Honda wins all day. No way would I pay more for a Kia over a Honda. The Honda may have less luxury and tech but higher quality engine, i-vtm3, and significantly better residual value. Residual even matters for leasing as long as there's a buyout option. I've gotten money back when I turned in my previous Passport lease. I wish manufacturers would stop it with the 9+ speed transmissions. 8 speeds is more than enough and tends to be more smoothy managed. I hate inconsistent throttle behavior and it seems to happen more often with more gears.
I understand your sentiment and while you did speak for yourself, the demand of most consumers are asking for more and different nowadays. Less luxury and tech is going to be more and more of a setback for honda especially as the current younger generation ages.
Just got the Trailsport and love it. It drives great at freeway speeds and is more capable off road. Check out RUclips off road tests. They say it's the best performing crossover off-road. So if you want cushy comfort, go for the Kia. If you want more rugged looks and off-road performance and a great engine, get the Pilot.
Great review, though you didn't cover any information on towing capacity and capabilities. We have a 2011 Honda Pilot and it's a dog when towing our 3500# camper. Wondering how the new Pilot and/or Kia does with this.
Quantity vs. quality. Kia gives you "more" for less. Honda gives you functionality/simplicity. Personally, given the choice between these two, I would choose the Pilot. If I wanted luxury, I would go more for the Acura mdx.
Crazy that you didn't spend much time on the differences between the AWD systems - is it that you don't know the difference? Honda's is quite a bit different than what KIA has implemented.
Not really at all. In fact, neither are great comparisons. The Pilot has way more off-road capability but leaves a lot of the luxury features out and reserves them for Touring and Elite trims.
I would go with the Honda Elite vs KIA only because transmission. I don't like the silver button set up on the KIA. looks like the old entertainment center buttons and vcr. But both are better than the 4 cylinder turbo that grand highlander
All pilots have a major issue with sunroofs leaking. MAJOR PROBLEM. There is a huge gap from the factory and dealers can not seal it. Parts are on 4 month backorder. Nightmare.
There was a defect affecting some of the early model year Pilots, but it wasn’t all of them. The most common issue is the sunroof drain hose isn’t connected, it’s a quick fix that doesn’t need replacement parts usually.
@@markb3866 I’ve seen the issue multiple times. It’s a drain hose they didn’t attach at the factory. There isn’t a gap between the sunroof and the body, that would never pass inspection at the factory for shipment.
This isn’t a fair comparison because people are obviously going to choose the telluride but im still going to choose the pilot over it even though I love the telluride
I'm a huge Honda fan (at least old Honda). I've had two S2000s...still have one...2 Fits, my brother has a Fit with 300K miles and no issues, and my dad had an NSX and Legend. They weren't impressing me much lately. A bit boring and really conservative. Still have the reliability though, right? Well, kind of, but it is slipping and a lot of the excitement disappeared with the addition of Turbos and drop in redline. My means have gotten to where i can get a bit more expensive cars so I have been driving Audi's for the last decade or so...I know, reliability right. Haha. Well we have two kids now and the Fit just wasn't cutting it for the wife. We looked at the 3 row family SUVs, including up at the Q7 and such. If you are not a brand snob and you understand that likely the underpinnings aren't as sophisticated as the Germans...but they work as intended...the Korean siblings are the no brainer. JD Power and Consumer Reports are hugely high on them for reliability. Owner satisfaction is sky high. The interior fights way above its weight class, technology and customization blows my 2022 SQ5 Prestige out of the water (other than wireless Carplay). It is hugely comfortable. Everything you touch feels really nice. We bought a 2023 SX Prestige Telluride and couldn't be happier. We have racked up 7,500 miles in 7 months on road trips and around town with the family in absolute comfort for $20K less than a similarly equipped Q7. We've got a longer warranty and more interior room. The V6 and transmission in the Telly has proven to be reliable over the last 3.5 years. It does not have the engine fire issues people always like to bring up. The only real issue it has is the *optional* hitch wiring harness which has a stop sale on it. Again, if you aren't a brand snob, there isn't a fault. It does everything and does it well. Underpinning complexity aren't that important if it works and in most cases, works better than the more complex ones of some other vehicles....and it is probably cheaper to fix because of that. I'd like the massaging seat of the Palisade. Dont really care about the power third or third heated. I wish we had the amber DRLs that are coming back. The gas mileage could be a bit better. It'd be nice if it was wireless Carplay. Don't ignore because it is 'just a Kia.' People that can afford more than cars in this class are buying it. I can promise you that. Previous Audi, BMW, Lexus, MB, and Porsche owners. People in the the 80's were saying the same thing..."I wouldnt be caught dead in a Honda." "It's just a honda." Times change.
So the Kia's exterior and interior with the Honda engine matted to the Kia's transmission or just get the more powerful and fuel efficient Grand Highlander Platinum for 5k more.

I think I would get the Kia and take the perceived reliability risk! It doesn’t even look like a Kia! It seems very nice! They’ve come a long way. Honda’s vehicles lately are very bland, boring, and full of CVTs!
I have the 2023 Pilot Touring and so far for me is a better package compared to the Telluride. My coworker has a similarly trim 2022 Telluride and although it has more gimmicks than the pilot, it has shown some issues with the tech, not to mention the Value (depreciation) that is showing already.
I have the 2019 Honda Passport EXL and my best friend had the 2021 Kia Telluride top trim. Techs mind blowing on the Telluride but I still love the heck out my Passport lol.
The Kia Telluride interior to me screams BMW X7 and that's a compliment and the HONDA I see a bit of styling from Acura (the luxury division) of Honda and that's also a compliment. If you want value go for KIA, if you want reliability go for HONDA; that's a fair point for both of these brands.
I have to say I own a Kia Stinger GT2 AWD and have owned it for 4 years and not one thing has gone wrong with it mechanically. I agree with you on Honda reliability but Kia/Hyundai/Genisis continue to score high if not higher in JD Power overall initial quality scores.
False. Honda has a poor reliability record in recent years.... they actually had better reliability in the 1980's. Class action lawsuits on engines and transmissions over several models in the Honda lineup..... and this one is a 'new' engine and a completely new transmission. You are signing up as a guinea pig tester with ANY new model redesign. People are already looking for cylinder deactivation 'foil' hardware because of excess oil consumption concerns. Cylinder Management, I think they call it..... PC for shutting down the firing of some of the cylinders.... yeah.... like that idea hasn't been trouble for EVERY manufacturer that has employed it - including Honda.....
Honda pilot interior hahaha Its like 70's Even toyota 2023 hubrid highlander xLe has analog speedo Toyota and honda bastards are fooling in name of reliabilty card ( which no more will work) Wait few more months both will be sinking without trace ( lot of new cars coming in)

Telluride is better but the pilots the safest most pragmatic choice.

Kia has Honda beat on exterior styling and interior design. The new pilot looks like something from a few years ago.
The pilot is more competitive than the grand highlander
I see 15 year old pilots everywhere. I don't see old kias at all.
The very poor infotainment screen was the reason I didn't get a pilot elite

Honda at least tries to be truly competitive with Hyundai and Kia. There’s a reason Hondas the class leader in their categories

I would choose the Honda. The Pilot is the bigger vehicle, drives better, probably more reliable, better looking in my opinion and slightly more capable off road.
The trailsport has a more advanced AWD system that comes from Acura

If you’re going to consider a pilot elite, do hop over to the Acura dealer and look at an mdx tech. Better styling, premium brand, and similar price.
@@aa6355-r4m that’s a great car but its $5k more and has a few less features. Also non touch screen with annoying touchpad, much higher maintenance costs, premium gas and higher insurance.
My sister-in-law has a 2012 MDX and it drives a lot better and quieter than my 2017 Pilot EX-L.

great to hear.
The Honda is just better, it's the more capable vehicle.
I would probably go with the Kia SX- Prestige. The reliability and build quality have improved significantly over other Kia in the past.
When you say reliability how long / many miles do you keep your car to care about that? Also have you seen the engine failure with Kia ? I like Kia
But let’s not pretend the NEW kias are better than the OLD ones. PREE 2011 Kia was better. They didn’t improve reliability it actually went down and their trying to rekindle it.

Easy choice Honda all day I’ll definitely last longer and be more reliable
@@MIZUNOMP60 agreed on the extra options that should be available. But the screen is totally fine in person
Exterior on both are great but Kia wins over all. Kia is more 'now' whereas Honda Pilot's interior is very '5 years ago.' But having the better engine is a plus.
If you drive both the Honda drives a lot better to be fair. Although to your credit the interior materials are more utilitarian.
@@davewilson7602 I suspect it does drive better. As the reviewer stated the engine sounds better and Honda is known for their engines.
I think Honda benchmarked Audi in their design and quality. Kia definitely benchmarked land rover and Mercedes and bmw

I was just given a 2023 Pilot EX-L as a loaner while my 2016 got a timing belt change, and the wireless charger worked great for my iPhone 14 Pro with an apple leather case on it. No disconnects at all that I saw. I hope this helps.
@@SheepNizzlewhat was price range to get timing belt change please, thank you
@@kesha1402 It was about $1400 to have both the timing belt and water pump replaced together.
What about insurance which will cost less to consumers?
Probably my favorite Redline video from 2023. Great job with the comparison!
I'll throw the Telli a bone. It does have a much classier interior.
True their driving dynamic is mid even the genesis is same
Yeah the Kia looks great on the internet with the interior looks and the toys, but if you drive them you can see which had more thought put into the engineering.
@@snowblind.Idk if it looks better. Tbh I think the Pilot's new design beats all in the segment in looks.
For an ownership under 5 years I'd take the Kia. But resale value alone make Pilot a better buy.
the honda drives better, period. depends what u prefer in terms of design and content vs driving dynamics
Personally I like a shifter. Both really great suvs.
I honestly feel the Pilot will upgrade the screen to the new Accord screen next model year. The Selluride seems like the better option but I would probably pick the Pilot based on reliability. I've seen too many stories on social media about the Telluride's engine problems.
Either that or the refresh in 2-3yrs. But I kinda agree with you on the next year front.
KIA is just way better in value. I love my '22 Telluride SX Prestige :)
lmao that honda will run until the sun burns out, while that Kia will be in a junkyard
Compare resale value.
If you drive your vehicle for years and until it isn't economically viable to repair it it is a good value.
If you trade your vehicle or sell it every few years any Honda model will retain more of its value compared to a KIA or Hyundai.
@@BikerJim74 You mean Honda will run till the transmission blows out. KIA will be lasting around 300k-400k miles.
@@darkivaz-aaa1145 we get it, you're an obvious h/k fanboy/troll.
Great work.
good choice, my brother got Telluride. and its burning oil already.
Let’s just say I have the luxury of driving 90% of new vehicles that hit the market. I got in the 2024 pilot and I could just tell I was driving a superior vehicle than any Kia and even Toyota I have driven. I bought the 2024 touring the next day
I’ll take the Kia EV9
the Pilot has been outselling the Telluride so it seems the consumer base have picked the winner.
Kia/Hyundai can’t keep up with their build quality issues… Recalls left & right.
Yeah and Ford outsells them both with the horrible Explorer. Higher sales doesn’t mean better.
@@kyle223catagreed.
@kyle223cat It means Ford and Honda are better at attracting buyers than KIA and Hyundai.
@@williamegler8771no it means ppl want reliability over anything else
They both are good looking vehicles to me but the Pilot in the rear looks a little bloated for my taste. I’d go with the Telluride but would need the blacked out appearance package.
hey guys, my 2024 pilot has 8k on the odometer (KMs) but its mileage sucks... it's consuming 14L per 100 KM... this is the first time I've bought an 8-seater so want to know if the fuel consumption gets better with time? perhaps after the first service? LMK. Thanks.
They are decent freeway but suck fuel up city driving.
Your transmission switchin issues could be related to economode, when all or some cylinders shut down. Switch to normal mode and disable engine shutdown and you will have no complaints with transmission on honda pilot. Remember, economy comes at price.
Honda has been having issues with 10 speeds for years in Odyssey. Look at how many were unhappy with it. Too many gears to hunt.
That's what he mentioned.
The biggest complaint I had about my brand new 2008 Accord was wind noise. Didn't know this was a thing for Honda even in 2024.
Honda and Toyota have very cheap materials inside and outside the cabin. Every time I sit inside one I am shocked by the poor quality.
The pilot's interior can give u depression attacks !!
My feelings exactly. All that dark and gloomy monotone and hard cheap plastics. A cheap rental car look.
Let's be honest here some people don't want an interior that's overwhelming all the time
Funny thing is the pilot is actually a high quality feel to the touch although the design is too drab. My comparison was to palisades mid trim-which felt cheap and flimsy despite looking great.
@chaarleess how about 1 that's just half decent? 🥱
@@philipjacob2314 the aesthetics in pilot look old AF seems like they just drew lines out of nowhere !!
does the new pilot share the same suspension as the 2022 passport trailsport?
The Pilot is on a newer platform than current Passport and Ridgeline.
Your comparison is wrong, Acura vs Kia and Honda vs Hyundai is the correct orientation.
I had a 2020 telluride and the engine went out at just 130k. Dealer replace the engine at no cost but then the transmission started having issues at 160k by then I traded the car and done. I will never own one again.
What do you do? Uber or delivery?
At 130K, you are already out of warranty, because it’s supposed to be within 100K miles or 10 years.
@@blackwhirlwind1245 I purchased a extended warranty
@@blackwhirlwind1245 work is around 60 miles each way plus I did alot of cross country trips so basically alot of highway mileage
The pilot headlights resemble the Ford explorer headlights especially with the led turn signal up top
Less luxury and tech is going to be more and more of a setback for honda especially as the current younger generation ages.
if the Pilot has digital rearview mirror, then it would be a perfect vehicle for me. I'm just waiting for that one thing.
Wondering how the new Pilot and/or Kia does with this.
if you want to keep one of these 2 for 10 years, Honda is the only realistic choice here.
Regardless KIA or HONDA, Congratulations man for 29 minutes nonstop continously talking ability... good luck
Need a Toyota Grandhighlander comparison
Honda should’ve added the full digital dash like the Telluride did, that 9 inch screen in the middle won’t cut it for some people
It's fully digital in the pilot elite. The prestige vs the trailsport is not quite a fair comparison
Quantity vs. quality. Kia gives you "more" for less. Honda gives you functionality/simplicity. Personally, given the choice between these two, I would choose the Pilot. If I wanted luxury, I would go more for the Acura mdx.
From the beginning of the video you can tell that he preferred the Kia. I don't own either one but if I had to choose one, I'd go Honda.
Keep up the good work Sofyan. I enjoy the comparison vids & more would be welcomed!
Is it good though? It is pretty sloppy if you ask me...
Great review!!
Crazy that you didn't spend much time on the differences between the AWD systems - is it that you don't know the difference? Honda's is quite a bit different than what KIA has implemented.
The Honda AWD is superior l
Palisade XRT would have been a fairer comparison…
Not really at all. In fact, neither are great comparisons. The Pilot has way more off-road capability but leaves a lot of the luxury features out and reserves them for Touring and Elite trims.
Who ever thought we'd see the day that Honda would be specking a KIA to chase sales?? The KIA is the winner here.
KIA looks premium compared to Honda.
The Honda is so low that almost any car would.
Honda really dropped the ball with the interior on the pilot. Not in my consideration set
But it’s still way better than the grand highlander so there’s that
I would go with the Honda Elite vs KIA only because transmission.
@@davewilson7602 it's not a drain hose issue. It's a gap between a sunroof and a body.
@@markb3866 I’ve seen the issue multiple times. It’s a drain hose they didn’t attach at the factory. There isn’t a gap between the sunroof and the body, that would never pass inspection at the factory for shipment.
@davewilson7602 that is what most people think but the problem is much bigger. These parts start separating around 4k miles, not at factory
Kia's warranty period is a no-brainer for me. I don't like the new kia headlights though 😢...if you can see pass that.
This isn’t a fair comparison because people are obviously going to choose the telluride but im still going to choose the pilot over it even though I love the telluride
Why is it not a fair comparison? I’m curious
It's totally fair
The Pilot Trailsport is not a high-end trim like the Telluride which is fully loaded.
@@papaagidi2838the Kia here is top end and 6k more than the Honda. The Honda isn’t the top of the line one.

I seriously doubt any BMW or Mercedes shoppers will be cross-shopping a Kia.
So the Kia's exterior and interior with the Honda engine matted to the Kia's transmission or just get the more powerful and fuel efficient Grand Highlander Platinum for 5k more.
More like 10k more 😂. The grand highlander is nowhere near as good as either the telluride or pilot
Telluride looks good, but I go for pilot
My wife is eyeing a telluride or a grand highlander. Love to see a comparison video on those when the Toyota becomes more readily available

I think I would get the Kia and take the perceived reliability risk! It doesn’t even look like a Kia! It seems very nice! They’ve come a long way. Honda’s vehicles lately are very bland, boring, and full of CVTs!
Who cares if Honda uses CVTs in other vehicles? This review has nothing to do with a lower end Civic. The Pilot has a traditional 10-speed auto.
@@georgesnyder5337 good to know! I didn’t know that. Thanks for telling me!
Absolutely. Honda really lost their way in the design department lately. The new Accord looks like ass.
I have the 2023 Pilot Touring and so far for me is a better package compared to the Telluride. My coworker has a similarly trim 2022 Telluride and although it has more gimmicks than the pilot, it has shown some issues with the tech, not to mention the Value (depreciation) that is showing already.
The telluride is pretty sought after so I don’t see why depreciation would be bad
Hahaha, don’t ever mention depreciation and Telluride in the same sentence yet since it came out 4yrs ago. Good luck even finding a used telluride
Total utter BS. Did you even watched this video???
Same with a co worker at my job.. has had alot of electric issues over 2 years.
Telluride 🥰 I pick 🤪
Honda pilot interior hahaha
Its like 70's
Even toyota 2023 hubrid highlander xLe has analog speedo
Toyota and honda bastards are fooling in name of reliabilty card ( which no more will work)
