MASSIVE shopping HAUL at LIDL reduced stickers everywhere!!

  • well having forgotten my darn camera!! I went to Lidl as its my usual shop day and for the first time in years, there was a bonanza on reduced items specifically in the meat department.
    So it's times like this that throwing out my meal planner had to happen and buy as much of the reduced items would allow. I am very happy with the results and funnily enough we decided to go 90% carnivore only yesterday, having toyed with the idea for months.
    I've done keto a few years ago, before my RUclips days so am familiar with the process but am allowing some carbs in, so really just a low carb rather than no carb diet.
    The usual reasons apply, need to lose weight and avoid potentially diabetic diagnosis in later life. Luckily for me, I know I am not diabetic as have had recent tests, but if I carry on consuming refined sugary carbs including rice and pasta, it won't be long before I am!
    Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching....

    Following a diabetes diagnosis I have cut out nearly all carbohydrates to 30g a day in six months lost 4 stones and feel so much better. Its just a shame that no one told me about carbs until now at 76 years old!

    I follow a keto diet as much as I can. Rather hard for me as I am vegetarian, but there are a few keto cookery channels that showcase a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle so that helps for ideas. Over the years I have developed some great alternative recipes to some of my favourites like lemon cheesecake and chocolate mug cake! Great food shop. All that food at such a bargain price. Thank you fo sharing.

    Good for you wanting to improve your health! I've stopped watching Butlers Empire a while ago, as i was getting a bit fed up of Martin almost preaching his opinions on how bad certain foods are (in his opinion only it should be said) I'm sure you wont be like that Kerry! Never forget Dr C Atkins who started the infamous diet of mainly meat and no veg, died of a heart attack with his arteries 30-40% blocked! Moderation is the key word. Look after yourself xx

      Yes i agree with you. I googled it and it said it was no good for diabetics because they don't get the nutrients that they need. I used to enjoy watching when i first got a slow cooker and an air fryer, also pressure cooker as they had some good recipes on and they showed you how to use the appliances. Now it's all meat and fish.

      Thank you Glenda😃👍💕It's funny you say that about dr Atkins, googled him and he had a type of heart disease caused by a virus, he fell over causing a traumatic brain injury, and was in a coma of which fluid retention was a complication - he succumbed after 9 days after the fall, it's a myth about it being caused by his diet😃👍but I couldn't do without salads, veg and the very very occasional homemade slice of bread! I suppose there are good fats and bad fats, and 50 years of the slimming market telling us one thing despite obesity being on the rise (a bit like the cigarette companies telling us smoking was good for us back in the day) sugar is more addictive than certain well known drugs! 😄💕💕

    Well done! I absolutely love a bargain!
    I also love carbs too much. I'm at that same age, and even though I do eat less, and do loads of walking, I'm getting heavier. It doesn't help watching Backyard Chef. His recipes are so easy. I've been making his pastry loads recently. Last night I made an apple pie. It was so nice, the two of us ate the whole pie. At the weekend egg custards, again all gone the same day.
    I couldn't give up carbs completely, but I do need to reduce the amount of them in my diet.

    As someone who has just had test results come back stating I have a genetic type 2 running in my family (which is why my very slim mum & dad had it after the age of 60 - apparently they may have had it for years but undetected / laid dormant), and despite being diagnosed in 2010 after being diagnosed with PCOS (which I had no idea makes you insulin resistant), I dropped 5 dress sizes (I’m 5’9” & disabled, I went from a size 32 to a 22), yet my sugars went through the roof (they were more stable when I was at my biggest!) - highest was 23.5!! I kept putting off going on insulin, tried everything to the point where I was starving myself (literally), & my sugars weren’t budging. I succumbed in November to insulin treatment and have had long, extensive talks with the amazing community diabetics team, & the things I’ve learnt in that short time is more than I’ve learnt since 2010.
    I had no idea type 2 could be genetic. Type 2 is pushed in the media as a ‘fat person’ condition, therefor I truly believed I was to blame, it was all my fault - it isn’t. Age, menopause, ethnicity and genetics all play a factor into getting type 2. You can also never reverse it. Once you have it, that’s it. You will have it for life. This information can all be found online. Apparently the diabetic team I’m with practically pull their hair out in sheer frustration with the books / videos stating it can be reversed, as they’ve had very, very poorly patients (some have lost their lives due to kooky information being given, convinced they don’t need meds) & a battle to get them to take their meds or insulin. Apparently those who ‘reverse’ it are often pre diabetic and have completely done a 360 with lifestyle, but they said they may end up suffering later on, its no guarantee it may not return.
    Advice given is; always eat a varied diet. Fruits (something I avoided for years), up to 3 pieces a day, vegetables, you can absolutely eat carbs, but weighed amount and have lots of protein / vegetables with it. I’m a carb monster, so that was the hardest thing for me, even now when I’m on insulin I’m told I must eat carbs after my injections, but what I do is, I double up on homemade quorn spaghetti bolognese, & a measured portion of pasta. I have extensive GI issues and I’ve been told to limit my fibre intake, I was eating everything whole meal / wholewheat, which is lower in GI which releases sugars much slowly into our bodies, however I can eat white pasta / bread so long as I’m accompanying it with a protein which breaks down the sugars in the carbs!
    I’ve been told so many times, there’s no such thing as ‘good food’ vs ‘bad food’, that negative mindset ends up with us having a poor relationship with food. Eat what you fancy, but smaller portions and getting to grips with that when you’ve had disordered eating in your life can be hard, but I’m getting there and it really does work.
    I don’t believe in the fad diets, I’ve tried them all and they all have terrible negative impacts on our bodies over time.
    Blessings always! New subscriber xx

    I remember growing lettuce, in a garden, from seed, with guidance from my dad, when I was a kid, the results were good, if I recollect correctly. For myself, I've heard about the term 'Keto' diet but, I couldn't accurately describe what it is due to my lack of knowledge on this topic. Yes the point, you made about refined carbs, I think, is 100% correct; my kitchen would be much smaller than before you moved but I'm seriously considering purchasing a bread maker, simply to avoid all that ultra proccessed bread-like stuff that occupies huge amounts of shelf space in every single supermarket, across the UK, probably World.

    • @budgetcookinguk
      @budgetcookinguk  3 месяца назад

      Keto is extreme low carb, as there is carbs in veg. The idea is you go into 'ketosis' where the body eats fat instead of carbs - flipping very hard and in the end I gave up after 6 months. Nice memory of growing lettuce under the wing of your dad, I like that. If I eat any bread, it'll be homemade plus cut out 99% pasta/rice and other refined carbs😃👍good luck choosing a bread maker, I've never used one but I've heard it's really quick and easy

      Biscuits and crisps I was eating a lot Fran, so doing this should help plus we would have pasta/rice a lot in the week (easy cheap fillers) and they're really calorific not to mention the ol' sugar spike carb overload thing😄👍cutting all that out can only be beneficial

      Blasted carbs so delicious but oh so darn fattening, well def in my case. Reducing it to a minimum must be better than eating it unchecked😅

    For those banging on about Martin,I don’t think he is intending to stick to the carnivore diet for the rest of his days.He is doing it for a specific reason and it is working for him,He is entitled to his opinion and you do not have to agree with him so take a chill pill

      Hi Zara👋😀💕 that particular haul was a bit of a stroke of luck - I've not seen anything like it since but I keep looking! So that was all bought on Tuesday morning about 8am, 19th march ('24) - when were the Easter hols? It could have been during that.

    I believe the only item that wasn't reduced that's come down in price are the eggs there £1.33 for 10 last year the same pack of eggs were £2.69 either Lidl is selling them as a loss leader or they've gotten them that cheap.

    • @budgetcookinguk
      @budgetcookinguk  3 месяца назад

      They've been £1.33 for ages, I don't think they were ever £2.69 that prob was the free range x 12
