When it comes to flash modding, the 6th generation iPod can only read up to 128GB of modded storage through the stock OS due to the LBA28 addressing limitation. The 160GB model used some kind of workaround that would only work specifically with the thick custom 160GB hard drive Apple made, if you took a thin 160GB hard drive from a 7th gen and put it in a 6th gen it would actually fail to read the full capacity and default to 128GB just like with a flash mod. The only way to support more storage is through the use of RockBox.
