THE LAST TRAIN SURE IS THE LONGEST I'VE SEEN..GREAT VIDEO..GREAT QUALITY. A JOY TO VIEW. THANK YOU
The 156 did a good job of traveling coast-to-coast. I caught it in Portland OR on the fourth of July weekend, with an SP baggage car in its consist.
Thanks! This was all shot at the Alexandria, VA Amtrak Station.
66 is my favorite of them. The wide stripes work well with the P42 body. Nice vid.
That is the famous Auto Train. It runs from Lorton, VA to Sanford, FL. It's an express that has no intermediate stops. The special feature is that you can take your car with you in the autoracks (freight section) of the train.
Awesome, Ill have to make more 7:30 AM trips to try and see one!
Ahh no problem. I'm always happy to help.
The door at 1:30 was closing and the door at 1:36 had a conductor standing in it. It's standard practice for them to stand at the door until the train leaves the platform.
Thanks! I know there have been several Heritage units on the LSL so it's not long before it will happen again.
Nina, I just came back on the Tecas Eagle to LA from Fort Worth. Amtrak had us take a bust between Fort Worth and Dallas.My son and I instead took the Light rail, which was much more convenient. Im not sure if you will have the same route from San Antonio, turning North to Chicago, but if you do you will bypass a lot of delays..Enjoy your trip! I miss the incredible service and luxurious diners from the old days
It's the station platform that really counts. They are long enough to allow boarding of all the trains that stop here
They repainted 3 baggage cars, 1 sleeper, and a amfleet diner, and was redesigned to a store selling there 40th anniversary gear. Also, they repainted there only full dome car to phase 3. So they have, 4: P42's
1: P40
1: F40
1: Full dome
3: Baggage
1: Sleeper
1: Diner (40th anniversary store)
Gotta love 66.
Say I'm crazy, but i'm in LOVE with AMTRAK
Sounds like a great trip!
Well that engine was painted last year in those colors. That set is likely modeled after an earlier Amtrak locomotive.
Not long after you commented, I saw a post about one running on the LSL. Good luck on future catches.
You were right, got one today about an hour ago. Just posted in the video response below
as allways nice catch and camera work, keep them comming.
They actually have an exhibit train that was touring America with cars in the retro Phase 3 scheme and filled with Amtrak exhibits and history.
Great videos.
That would be Amtrak's famous Auto Train which usually runs 50 or so cars making it the longest passenger train in the USA.
I saw 66 In Newton, KS This morning with a second P42 but it was too dark to see the number.
Well thanks for the compliment!
I agree. It looks great.
Nice catch on the Heritage units!
That's the DC/Virginia area commuter rail. Also known as VRE as I'm sure you guessed.
For an almost 16 year old design, it's not bad.
@stcatharinesrailfan The first station is Alexandria Amtrak station. The second is Woodbridge Amtrak Station.
R.I.P Amtrak #66
I'm thinking of putting together a multi-scheme Texas Eagle powered by 156 (in HO), but I agree.
oh heck yeah. I currently live in Buffalo, NY. I think you've been here before too.
Great video, I only get the Lake Shore Limited here and no Heritage yet
Awesome! I love anything cab....
oh cool thanks your the best railfanner ;)
Unfortunately for you, the Auto Train does not roll through Alexandria, Va. I used to live 10 or so blocks from this station. Lorton is some15 miles south of Alexandria.
@Workhard72 Thanks I'm glad you liked it!
13:09 my aunt lives not even a mile from that station and I've been there plenty of times, shoot I could go there now if I wanted...
My mistake, I didn't know he was going down to Woodbridge to shoot. That is indeed the Auto Train.
I can't wait for April 18 when i will leave Chicago aboard the Southwest Chief to Az,and will return in May aboard the Texas Eag.le
Nice trains I enjoyed the video great job
Yes. They are all diesel electric locomotives.
Nice catches :D
Yes they all are. This was filmed last year.
Wish Amtrak had Business Class on the long distance trains, such as Coast Starlight. Bedroom space is limited, and when I travel last minute, I'll fly before I go straight coach. I travel alone, and having to sit next to a stranger between Seattle and Los Angeles isn't gonna happen! If Amtrak would wall off the last half of the last coach with large biz class seating, I would give it a try, and pay more for the semi-privacy. I wouldn't expect the same complimentary meals as sleeper class. Perhaps just a coffee card would do. A single traveler in coach is subject to being moved around to accommodate couples and families. A first class coach section would be well received, I believe.
Well the elevated platforms cost a lot more to install and maintain. plus some of the other amtrak equipment has lo level doors that are incompatible with elevated platforms.
They where both in the pool for those services for a few days.
You got it!
That's awesome!
Amtrak 66 is my icon
Fantastic video.
Thanks.
Very nice video.
Very cool!
@amarkanders777 They don't have specific dorm cars in the east. Its more of a reserved seat in the coach or cafe that the crew occupy. I know on some trains that run in the west fave a transition sleeper which serves as a crew dorm
Very cool video!
Great video
Excellent video,enjoyed the variety of train equipment,and the good camera work.
Wondering what equipment you use to get your v g quality ?
RC
There was one day when the LSL had the whole Amtrak Exhibit Train in tow.
Thanks!
Amtrak trains the best day of trains
muito bonito formidavel espero ver um de perto um dia
Those trains are huge compared to European ones!
Thumbs up for the doors open or partially open @ 1:30 and 1:36. What's up with that?
awesome backgound music :)
Ive been to this station many times with my kids and later mostly with my youngest daughter. Walking to the DC metro that you can see accross the way was a nuisance since you had to walk all the way around. They were planning a tunnel to get accross
was that ever completed?
al
They may be long, but the platform is so low down and the train is so high up. I know there are steps to get on the train but is it necessary?
@BosworthJ Yes this was Friday April 22
they should create Heritage Anniversary Train cars for Amtrak
Amtrack really need to give their trains an upgrade
@Applachia0928 Thanks I appreciate it!
Alexandria, Virginia...King St. area I think
@Linzlinien Yes they are really cool
ah thanks for telling me. cause that one seriously threw me
@csx2566 Not sure on the train ID. It could have been Q316.
Good train
why were they using amtrak heritage units 66 and 156 that day??
You got it
nice..
Nice! :)
I agree.
okay what is with the amtrak train/freight train at the end that one threw me cause I have never seen a amtrak train longer than the southwest chief
Yeah I railfan Depew all the time. You know Cory Rusch right? We go to the same school.
I saw that video when I was seven years old
what train was that conrail
Which one? 66 or 156?
156 apply emergency breaks buy the sound of it ???
@stcatharinesrailfan That's awesome!
do amtrak trains have Dorm cars? I worked for the GN, they had them for the dining car people. I quess NEVER any baggage people as crew members, I think a 'brakeman' (asst' conductor) takes care.
What's Virginia Railway Express
Word going around is AMTK 66 is going to be retired...
@stcatharinesrailfan Those two P42's have plenty of horsepower to handle that train.
@BNSFandSP Nice!
@eladsein Thanks!
Cool! You should check out Railworks 3 on Steam.
@Aqwert76 haha never heard that before....
@trinityct Thanks!
What do you mean?
5:40 new cast p5
@msdejesus Thanks!
