Rebels: It takes years to put together a giant fleet and take over the galaxy. Five suicide bombers on a ship assembled on its knee, not even having shields, literally 12:00 minutes later: hello there!
Was literally looking for the most recent world record for FTL thinking, "There's no way nobody's gotten WR in 7 years," and turns out you managed to top it TODAY. Like, literally an hour ago. That's some serendipitous shit, man. Congratulations on the run!
Thanks, haha. I swear I keep having weird coincidences like that too. Hopefully this motivates someone else to grind and we won't have to wait another 7 years.
"I don't have the best mechanics" Man singlehandedly manages to do immense amounts of complex decision making and calls it "not the best mechanics" Man, you just deserve this win because it was so smart!
I had never seen an ftl speedrun before and considered doing a run. I'm pretty familiar with the game so I clicked on your run to find out what it was about. As soon as I saw Stealth B my heart sank because I knew the rng I'd have to get would need to be immaculate. It really is incredible how much good luck was in this run and I certainly don't have the same patience to do it for 1000 attempts
You should definitely still try it out. You can use Zoltan A to reduce the need for good rng. The 4th fastest time uses that. and if you do end up speedrunning you should upload your runs to speedrun.com so that people know you're trying.
@@golddmane is there a community hub or something of the like? I would like to know if certain things such as having hyperspace installed is okay and the like since a modded version of FTL is a bit finicky to return back to vanilla just for speedruns.
I didn't think I would learn something new about the game but I didn't know you could de-power hacking to dodge the laser of the defense drone. I assumed you would just spam the hacking until one goes through, which works if you have like 10 drone parts to spare.
Yep, just makes hacking that much better. And if you browse some other quick speedruns you'll see people who are much more proficient at it than me. They can depower without pausing and still evade the drone. These little unintentional details are what makes FTL so great.
That was a new trick to me, with over 400 hours in the game. I'll definitely be keeping that in my playbook for the future! Kudos on a really impressive run.
@godlyvex5543 It's been patched in Multiverse. Hacking drones will now self-destruct if depowered mid-flight. Luckily you can also just buy Defense Scrambler at any time now.
Phenomenal run, with the kind of luck you were getting I really do believe you reset 1000+ times. The only major mistake was that on the drone fight at 8:57, I don't know how I could have kept it together and made as many correct decisions as you did under such pressure when everything lines up. Overall, great job!
Incredible, I appreciate the pure effort and will put into this. Tho 9:06 was painful to watch... could have shaved off 30 sec... you must have felt it more than I do.
Most absurd thing I have witnessed in this game. How are these things even possible? Edit: I am sure you were sweating just waiting to see if the flagship would hack your weapons. Also that final phase 3 superweapon firing had me on the edge of my seat. It was like the world was going down in flames around you yet somehow your weapons remained online.
I don't even wanna know how many runs it took to get rng to line up, and then to play so tightly the whole way through when the perfect rng presented itself... really, really amazing work.
Damn... I've lost on easy mode with 4 shields, a full crew, full arsenal, stealth, pre igniters, completely loaded down using all my reactors power available. This dude makes it easy and destroys the flagship without even having shields
@@arandomperson12345 True, but I've been on pace to beat the record before but made blunders and let boarders kill my weapons against the flagship, so I still consider it pretty lucky that I didn't waste this godly seed by getting weapons hit.
At 4:20 you could've saved a few secs by depowering the Glaive beam and using the Halberd instead, since it would hit 3 rooms with one damage each, which would've been exactly enough to destroy the ship.
Damn, so lucky to get first jump stores so often. You were very low on fuel there! The unmanned fighter fight in the second sector could have netted you a few seconds - switching to halberd would have killed it on a shorter cooldown.
I think if you would have aimed the two beams to hit four rooms the super shield would have been destroyed with one volley, thereby also saving a few seconds. Other than that, incredibly amazing and you have my utmost respect
I miss playing this game when i was younger, its just amazing. Good job man,i always hated stealth b (i think thats the ship) but you used it very well!
thanks man. i used to play when i was a lot younger too, but stopped for years. yeah stealth b is pretty annoying but its great for speedrunning bc of glaive beam. if you're still interested in ftl theres a crazy mod called multiverse that you can look up that adds so much to the game, you should check it out
it's objectively a pretty bad ship layout (not *nearly* the worst as people like saying, that goes to either Zoltan C or Engi B), but it's prime speedrunning material thanks to starting with such a god-tier weapon and cloaking (in speedruns, shields are actually a dump stat)
it seems like the very start of the run was rather suboptimal, not necessarily with speed, but with the amount of damage taken and immediately getting hit in the cloaking. what made you keep going on this run instead of resetting early?
the glaive beam does 3 damage per room hit, and beams have the innate ability to deal damage through shields, if at -1 damage per shield layer the stealth B is built around starting with this and to make it balanced make it have no shields to start with(which cost like 90 scrap to install... and also require a shop)
The Stealth Cruiser B is the "glass cannon" of the game. Starts with an absurdly powerful weapon that has a long cooldown, but very few means to actually keep you alive while it charges up. It might seem OP in this video, but it can be a nightmare to play with. You hit an asteroid field, you're screwed. You fight an enemy with drones, you're screwed. You fight someone else with beam weapons, you're screwed. Something hits your weapons ONCE, you're screwed. etc.
I don't think it's a bug. The devs specifically programmed a mechanism to determine when weapons, drones and asteroids collide and used that same mechanism to fire down the hacking drones. It's only natural that a hacking drone can dodge a defence drone by changing speed. It also explains why they designed anti-drone drones to fire faster than defence drones-- so that they are less likely to miss.
Я не говорю по-русски, поэтому не могу сказать, было ли то, что ты только что сказал, обидным. Но я думаю, оно того стоило, потому что это было весело.
I agree hard mode would be more impressive, however you will NEVER get the lowest possible time on hard mode. So if the goal is beat the game as fast as possible it has to be on easy. Beating the game as fast as possible ON HARD MODE should be its own category with its own records. But you'll see a huge difference in time. Maybe double at least. You'll need twice as many jumps to earn enough scrap to beat the game on hard. Or just absolutely insane RNG where you're getting tons of free weapons and double rewards.
@@Dukerdjerrbs holoshideim has the current record for streaks. Something like 124. that's on hard mode with no pause too ..and he was speed running the streak. Got through all 28 ships in like 20 hours or some nonsense
