So so so many shared favorites here! Love Dear Mrs Bird and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. I also love the Lady Hardcastle mystery series and highly recommend them on audio. The narrator is fantastic!
I’ve read so many good books this month so far. Mostly middle grade and my standouts are Some Writer!, Regsrding the Fountain, and A Kind of Paradise.

So glad you're enjoying Laurie Lee! That's the edition (from the library) that I read too and it is so lovely. You'll love the sequel, too. I agree that The Other Bennet Sister is a bit too long, but it does pick up towards the last third of the book. Will be interested to hear your thoughts on it. I _have_ to get to The Heir of Redclyffe--maybe April?

Sooo happy to see someone else read the Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret book! I really enjoy all of that so much.. I don't know why either. I know I wouldn't be able to survive that family or the fish bowl they have to live in. I'm listening to King Charles III book now by Christopher Andersen. It's a pretty good listen. Thank you for your videos!

Oh noooo re: Bleak House. I know even many Dickens lovers think he can be too verbose. I've not read enough of him to form an opinion yet but i did love the 1/4 of Bleak House i did read.
    Yay Charlotte Mary Younge!!!!🎉🎉
So glad you loved Dear Mrs Byrd!❤ can't wait to get your final thoughts on The Other Bennett Sister. I usually don't like retellings (I'd rather reread the OG) or "what ifs" like that book but i enjoyed March so much that i see if the book is really well done, they can be good to read.

OH NO!! I just got my copy of A Lady's Guide and assumed it would be a favorite... I will have to see (sigh- I don't like enemies to lovers when they're unkind). I added The Warm Hands of Ghosts to my TBR previously, but will probably remove it. I like Arden's writing, but some content is not my favorite. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I listen to all the vloggers on content. I'm still growing as a Christian, so I don't even want to delve into something that raises my discernment alarms.

I was a part of an online book club for Bleak House. Buddy reading is the best way to work through books like these.
I then watched the movie which was so good.

Oh no! I want to read the Lady's Guide book but now I don't know. I did just read a middle grade book that seemed to have some steam punk elements and I didn't hate it, so I might still like it. It's been so long since I read Bleak House, I don't remember my specific feelings on it. I think I really liked it but it did take me forever to read. And I remember enjoying the adaptation as well. I had so much fun reading Dear Mrs Bird with you! Such a great book! I'll read the second one eventually but I think a lot of people felt like you did about it. I bought the Amari book a while back for my son, thinking he would like it but he's tried a couple times and couldn't get into it. Meanwhile he's read the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson series multiple times. I really want to read The Other Bennett Sister. I thought I had read it but turns out it was a different book (but also about Mary).

The Other Bennet Sister is awesome. Seriously was totally impressed, although at first, I thought there was too much of P&P plotline. I changed my opinion on that.
Yonge is a great author. Haven't read her in like 30 years!
Definitely need the Laurie Lee book! EEEP!
I prefer Dickens as adaptations. You will enjoy the most recent one I think if you want a better experience with Bleak House.
Love Dear Mrs. Bird! I'm nervous about the second. Someone said the third is good, so... maybe a sloggy middle series book for #2? I love how flawed Emmy is but how well meaning she is, too.
Eeep! I have a Kind of Spark. I didn't plan to pick it up we just kind of liked the synopsis so we bought it but then I kid of ignored it. So... eeep!
Roger Ackroyd is brilliant, isn't it? So much fun!

I need to do better at DNFs with books. I just feel so guilty that I don't finish it!! But I really need to stop the one I am reading now because it is making me want to not read all together and I didn't read much last week. I read A Kind of Spark last March and loved it too. Have you ever read a good historical fiction about the witch trials by any chance? I have to read Dr. Mrs. Bird. I need to find someone to buddy read that with me.

    • @miriamelizabethreads
      @miriamelizabethreads  7 месяцев назад +1

I used to feel very guilty too! I sometimes still do but I really really just want to read what I enjoy. I don't care if it's a big classic that everyone loves (e.g. I DNF'd The Count of Monte Cristo among other iconic books). I'm not reading to earn any sort of degree, I'm reading to experience what I want to experience from literature, so if that means I DNF what I'm not enjoying I will DNF! It feels so freeing too.

I finished “The Girl In The Gatehouse” by Julie Klassen on March 1st. I gave it 4.5 stars. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to any Jane Austen fan. I am currently reading “Manhood: The Masculine Virtues America Needs” by Senator Josh Hawley and am enjoying it. I am also reading “Fire By Night” by Lynn Austin. This book will probably end up with a 3 star rating. The writing itself is good and the biblical worldview content is good, but the two main lady characters both lie to get what they want in this book. They face the consequences but I don’t feel any sympathy for them. All I want to say is, “Duh” to these characters. I have started “Into The Whirlwind” by Elizabeth Camden and am still getting into the book. I am only at chapter 3.
