The Blue Castle - reallly enjoyed the quirkiness! I was cracking up at her private thoughts before she was free - and then the things she said to her people when she returned. I had the physical copy and then listened on audio on the way somewhere and it was fabulous!
The Heir of Redclyffe yay!! I love savoring Yonge's books. Some of her other books are more plot driven. Is it bad that I really didn't like the animal bits (for the most part) in the Beatrix Potter series? 🤣The Inheritance sounds fun! Put it on hold! Loved this whole wrap-up! You read so many good books.
Hi Miriam, I loved the Beatrix Potter books too. My faves are Tale of Two Bad Mice and Jemima Puddleduck. I also dearly love the James Herriot books. I love his style of writing and his hilarious characters, and especially the involvement with the brothers. Tristan was over the top wasn’t he? I don’t really think of them as nonfiction but I guess they are. We went to Yorkshire back in 1992 and followed the trail of James and Helen. It was a wonderful trip of a lifetime for us and my dear mother was with us. She is gone now but we have wonderful memories. I read the Blue Castle too and really enjoyed it but am left with a feeling that it was just a bit strange. My sister felt the same. Maybe LM Montgomey is just not for me. I love Anne but only read the first one. ❤ I guess we all feel differently about things, and it’s okay, right.😊
That's funny! I hit a reading slump recently and had a terrible time finishing any books. I also DNF'd The Moonlight School. I don't know why, but the MC annoyed me. The Amelia Peabody series sounds delightful (adding it to my overabundant TBR...lol). I just love your vlogs. I thoroughly enjoy your passion for your books.

I did not like The Moonlight School, either!! I gave it 2 stars. I'm so glad you read The Inheritance with us. I agree with your assessment. I'm just now starting the Vanishing at Castle Moreau. I like the beginning so far, but we'll see how it goes! Emma M Lion!!!! Love it. I just read The Blue Castle. I had thought it was my first time reading it, but as I read, I realized I had read it when I was younger. It was very good! I still love Anne more, but this is a more mature story, and it was very good!
I totally get the series being rated higher than individual installments. It's a "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" situation. In fact, I often give the last book in a series the rating I would give the series overall.
You had some winners! I completely agree with you about the Inheritance. I really love the way the movie made it feel even more Alcott. I wish she would have returned to the book for a revision and published it in her maturity ♥️ And, of course, hooray for Mrs Polifax and The Blue Castle.🤗
The Herriot books have been some of my favorite for many years. I am listening to All Things Bright and Beautiful narrated by Christopher Timothy and have just finished the "biblical cord" chapter. I laughed so hard!! And I'm so glad you love Billy Beale. He is my favorite in the whole series. ❤ I've never read The Blue Castle, but maybe I should???!!
@@lisabailes1065 The Blue Castle is very different. It's much more mature as the main character is in her late 20s and it has a slightly more depressing tone than the Anne books although there are many funny moments and of course LMM's beautiful prose!

Miriam…if you are interested in a very good historical fiction book about Lady Jane Grey try Innocent Traitor by Alison Weir. It was so engaging and unpretentious. Oh and I too dnf’d Moonlight School. Loved the cover but just didn’t chime with it enough to finish it.
A) you never have to apologize for not liking a book, in my opinion B) aside from the Peter rabbit books, I have literally not heard of any of the books you talked about. C) I covet your bookshelves!!!!

"Jane Eyre" is my favourite novel. I am always willing to try a re-telling or a pastiche of it...but OH, DEAR..."My Plain Jane" was cringeworthy (and full of Americanisms, sigh). In the end I decided I was just too old for it and gave it to my (YA) niece, who also DNF'd it. So you are not alone with that one. 😉
