VICTOBER 2024 🕯🍂 My Pile of Possibilities!
Seriously, One Hundred Years of Solitude was a total letdown. I found myself rooting for the death of most of the characters. It felt like 100 years of reading just to get through it. I definitely will not be revisiting ever.
Hi Miriam ❤ I 100% relate with your reading goal to read less and take your time with the books you'll be reading this year. I'm trying to do the same for my reading 2025 goal. I'm also hoping to reread more. Because I can't help my pace sometimes, but it always broadens my understanding when I go back. I find that I missed so many gems. It's so amazing to see how your reading taste has changed throughout the year 😃 Reading truly is a lifetime journey ❤
Christmas at Thompson Hall made me feel stressed out! 😂 Sugar Plum Manor I liked only BECAUSE they actually talked through a love triangle. Go figure! 😂
I did not care for Marmee at all, but liked The Midnight School
Can you do a what i got for Christmas video plz and thanks
This is a great idea! I’ll have to save this for next year maybe, this year we didn’t do gifts so I don’t really have anything to share.. but I love these types of videos!
I am really looking forward to reading Charlotte Mary Yonge this year!
Louise May Alcott check out little women
I loved Anna Green Gables books and the movies and Jane of lantern Hills book and the movie. It was very good.
Wonderful, wonderful video! I think I need to RUN to the book store now!
😄🤭🥰🥰
Great video! I added a few is these to my wish list, you describe them so thoughtfully! Thank you
Thanks so much for watching! 🤗
I have yet to read a Mesu Andrews. After hearing you talk about In Feast or Famine, im very interested in that one of hers now!
Daddy Long Legs main character definitely reminded me of Anne of Green Gables 🫶🏻
I loved divine rivals 🫶🏻
Good morning! I just found your channel today and absolutely loved this video! It seems we have very similar taste in books and I'll definitely be picking up since of your recommendations! Now I'll go and watch your back list of videos. Great job!
Thank you so much! 🥰
Thank you for the lovely video! The Literary Life Podcast did a beautiful job of going over the Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner in a multi-episode series (I believe in September 2024). I HIGHLY recommend those to supplement that delightful read :) (or post-reading as you are probably finished by now🙃). All the best, and Happy New Year!
Oh I’ll have to listen!! I’ve listened to a couple of their episodes, they’re a great podcast!
Loved the bookmas videos! Something fun to look forward to even after Christmas is over!
Thanks so much Bethany!!
I have been planning to read Daddy Long-Legs for ages now! I need to pick it up.
A Seaside Wonder! yes!!
Not hating on Poirot!😭😭🤣🤣.. I agree that some of Agatha Christie's books are mediocre--hoping we both read some great ones this year.
So many of these are my favorites as well! I agree with all your thoughts on Born of Gilded Mountains. Such a fantastic book. Lily of Ludgate Hill, too, and Sylvia's Lovers. Yes! I enjoyed Martha Ballard's story in The Frozen River, especially how Ariel Lawhon wrote her marriage relationship, but I didn't love the 21st century overlay on the 18th century story. That brought it down for me, but now I really want to read the biography of Martha Ballard.
So what you’re saying is that 2025 needs to be year I finally read Charlotte Mary Yonge? 😉
Yes yes yes! 😍 and I do hope you love her writing! She’s so wonderful ❤️
Just stumbling across this readathon, and now I must dig through my shelves, lol! I do love epistolary books, and I've been thinking about rereading some favorites, so I'm looking at Dracula, The Martian, and a few books by Meg Cabot (who has a ton of both YA and adult romance). I've also been meaning to revisit some Jane Austen because I know there's always a ton of letter writing in them, but I don't remember if any of her works have enough to count for this or if I'm going to have to finally make myself read a book of her real letters...
Dracula is so great! I plan on rereading it in February! The iconic letter at the end of Persuasion is the one that instantly came to me! And it’s a shorter book too.
Thanks to you, I bought the same editions of the Herriot books that you have. I JUST discovered today, that if you put the front book covers side-to-side, from the first book to the last (left to right), it creates a wonderful collage of Yorkshire through the seasons! I read the first book this year and will definitely continue through the series. So THANK YOU!
I love that they depict the seasons! 😍 I’m so happy that you want to continue the series! ❤️
Miriam, may I ask a question? Just curious, have you read any Fredrik Backman? I haven't yet but have heard positive things and would value your opinion. He's scheduled to release another one this year called My Friends. Sounds like it could be good, but we'll see.
Ive read a few short stories and enjoyed them! I did DNF Beartown though - I didn’t find the writing style engaging and am not a huge fan of sports. I just read the summary for My Friends and it sounds like it could be a really great one!!
@@miriamelizabethreads Thank you.
I'm so glad you're going to read Daddy Long Legs. It's so good! Also, LMM's journals are fascinating. I take it all with a grain of salt, because maybe you know, after she became famous, she went back and rewrote her journals. In a way it makes it more fascinating because you wonder what she was hiding, or how she was altering the presentation of the facts.
Im so so excited for Daddy Long Legs! Hoping to start it Monday!
Happy New Year Miriam!
Happy New Year!❤️
You aren't alone, I think I am in the middle of a large number of books too. Oh the joys of episodic reading 🤣
😆😆😆 I look at my currently reading stack and ask why I’m doing this to myself 😅
Just added The Keeper of Hidden Books to my running cart on Better World Books
I hope you enjoy it!
The wonderful thing about Christie is that as you age you rediscover books that didn't work for younger you. There are definite benefits to a large back list. Take a break from Christie, or consume her in another fashion. Try Tommy and Tuppence mysteries married couple that cracked me up at your age. Or try the Christie website yearly challenge, although you didn't enjoy the first recommended book for the 2025 challenge (Five Little Pigs).
I can definitely see that being the case! I will probably take a long break and when I’m in the mood try another of hers.
Roseanna M. White is very hit and miss for me. When it's a hit I love it, but those misses are almost unreadable nonsense for me.
I feel that!
Storygraph is very good!
DNF'ing is liberating isn't it?
It really is!
❤ 📚
I was really disappointed with Spectacular as well.
I loved you Bookmas videos, Miriam. Thank you!!! Such a gift! That copy of Lyrical Ballads looks lovely!
Thank you so much friend!!❤️
Oh, I hope you LOVE Daddy Long Legs. It's such a fun book. 😊
I’m looking forward to it!
Adding "Meet me at the Museum." 😊
I loved both movie versions of miracle on 34 street but I didn’t love the book much. I think it’s because you get in to his head so you see him scheming. And in the movies, you are left to wonder if maybe he is Santa.
Who do u like best… poirot or marple?… which marple would you recommend for ez entry/quick engagement…🤔🤗
Ive always said Poirot but I think I prefer Marple more now! Honestly the first Marple book, Murder at the Vicarage is a great place to start! My favourite though is The Body in the Library!
I felt the same about Christmas at Sugar plum manor. I liked it better after book club with my mom because she noticed some nutcracker things I had overlooked, but it didn’t quite meet my expectations either.
Hi Miriam, happy new year! I know I will miss you after these lovely videos. Thank you so much. I too read Christmas at Thompson Hall last year and was rather disappointed. It just wasn’t very Christmas. But that’s okay. I just read two books I got for Christmas, the first was The Woods in Winter by Stella Gibbons, and I enjoyed it. I loved the pretty cover, but not a favorite. I then read Wormwood Abbey and enjoyed that. I was glad it was short though and don’t know if I’ll read anymore. I may if they’re from the library. I hope to read Middlemarch like you in parts if I can get a few friends to read with me. I have some copies to give them, so we’ll see. Thanks again.😊
Happy New Year, Cassandra!! Thank you so much for all your lovely comments and support, it means so much! ❤️ I felt the same about Wormwood Abbey! I enjoyed my time reading it but am not sure if I want to continue the series.
I just got Henrietta’s War too and put it in my January queue. Love Ethan Frome, though definitely not an uplifting book. If you didn’t already read Dear Hugo, I recommend that for an epistolary read, or start on the Mrs. Tim series. It starts a little slow but is worth it. I just finished the second one Mrs. Tim Carries On. It’s been a hectic month, so hopefully I didn’t repeat myself from a previous comment.😂 Happy New Year and hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
I would love to read Dear Hugo at some point! I’ve also had the Mrs Tim books on my TBR for so long! lol the more repetition the better I have a terrible memory 😂😂😂 Happy New Year! I did and I hope you did too! ❤️
@ Just finishing up Henrietta’s War. There’s a lot of humor in it. I really enjoyed it! It’s truly amazing how during the midst of something so terrible, they could find something funny and share it in their writing. It must have been a comfort or a nice bit of escapism during the war.
@@gerrid9092 Oh that makes me so happy to hear! And more excited to read the book.
Happy New Year.
Happy new year!
Happy New Year💕
Happy New Year to you too! 💕
Happy New Year! I totally get what you’re saying about Agatha Christie. I read my 4th this month and I am finding I don’t like the murder crimes because they get to my vivid imagination. I like cozy mysteries with the amateur sleuth and crimes like thefts and things like that. I can handle someone being killed, but I can’t handle the details. 😊
Happy New Year! 😊
I'm so sad you didn't have the right expectations for Christmas at Thompson Hall. I loved that story! It was so funny! Oh girl you need to read The Mill on the Floss and Daniel Deronda! My top favs so far Eliot.
I really hope I enjoy Daniel Deronda and the Mill on the Floss when I read them! I’m hopeful I’ll get to them in 2026 as middlemarch is my focus for this year.
Just to offer a respectful differing POV, I think number ratings have value, despite their limitations and imperfections. I even like the 'half' ratings (e.g. 3.5, 4.5, etc.). I also really enjoy tier rankings. Just my 2¢.
I do agree! and yes I’m definitely a fan of the half (and even quarter) rating system!
I love Arabella and reread it this summer. I enjoyed The Heir of Redclyffe a few years ago but have never heard of Dynevor Terrace so I picked that up for my Kindle. My favorite book of 2024 was The Bodyguard. I am not usually a big romance reader but that book swept me off my feet.
Ive heard great things about the bodyguard!! Im so glad you also love Arabella! I hope you enjoy Dynevor Terrace!
In Feast or Famine is one of my favorites of Mesu's too!
If you like The Heir of Redclyffe you may like The Daisy Chain by the same author. It deals with the life of a close family in a realistic way and I loved it.
Definitely looking forward to The Daisy Chain!!
