Frankenstein gets better with every read. One of the penultimate classics and it hits you with each page. (Being) Written by a young woman gives it infinite mystique. Flowers for Algernon is 'Thee' sad boy novel. It's in my collection and soon to be read.t
I'm definitely going to be participating! I'm thinking of reading Henrietta's War and Things We Didn't Say. The Visits of Elizabeth sounds very intriguing. I've never heard of it before. Possibly more too!
Yay! Can't wait to join in this readathon, thanks Miriam. My reading list for January has now just expanded by a million, lol! But i just can't pass on all the beautifully heartwarming epistolary books.. Divine Rivals, Dracula, Helene Hanff.. can't wait! Wishing you lots of happy reading, hope you have fun! 🌻💜
I appreciate all of your recommendations as this readathon idea is new to me! Every time I think i have a plan, something else catches my eye 😅. Happy reading 🕯️
I've been stockpiling my recommendations, too! :D YES!!! Read Things We Didn't Say (although there isn't a LOT of romance in it. It's minor). YES! Daddy Long-Legs... again, minor on the romance elements. And the sequel, Dear Enemy!!! 84 Charing Cross Road is AWESOME. SOLD on Henrietta's War. Off to buy! EEEP Oh, it's audible, too... and BEAUTIFUL on that one. EEEP!!! I LOVED Meet Me at the Museum. Especially how the author handled an awkward and potentially not-so-good situation. Ella Minnow Pea is AWESOME. I love it so much.
Yes Daddy Long Legs is definitely a romance, although a not ordinary one. I also like the movie with Fred Astaire even if it is quite different from the book. I plan to watch the anime now
I adore epistolary fiction. Thank you so much for these recommendations. Daddy-Long-Legs is an all-time favorite. Also, Madensky Square, by Eva Ibbotson♥️
See if your library has The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society-it's an epistolary novel set on English island, Guernsey. And there's a movie too. Henriett's War sounds amazing.
You must read 84, Charing Cross Road, Daddy Long-Legs, and Ella Minnow Pea! I love them all so much! Ella Minnow Pea doesn’t really fit the email/text prompt but a contemporary middle grade that does, and is excellent, is To Night Owl from Dogfish by Holly Goldberg Sloan. It’s a bit of a twist on The Parent Trap. I have a few epistolary books I’m planning to read for this challenge. I’m really looking forward to it. 😊
Just stumbling across this readathon, and now I must dig through my shelves, lol! I do love epistolary books, and I've been thinking about rereading some favorites, so I'm looking at Dracula, The Martian, and a few books by Meg Cabot (who has a ton of both YA and adult romance). I've also been meaning to revisit some Jane Austen because I know there's always a ton of letter writing in them, but I don't remember if any of her works have enough to count for this or if I'm going to have to finally make myself read a book of her real letters...
Dracula is so great! I plan on rereading it in February! The iconic letter at the end of Persuasion is the one that instantly came to me! And it’s a shorter book too.
Oh and I had a hard time finding an epistolary romance as well, which is kind of strange. The one I settled on I'm a little unsure of but I have been wanting to try it, so we'll see.
Great recommendations, Miriam. I will be sure to participate. I read a hilarious novel with wonderrful epistolary elements this year that I think so many would really enjoy - Dear Committee Member by Julie Schmacher. It is set in a university about jaded English professors tasked with writing letters of recommendations. Great academic satire and such fun!. Loving your Bookmas this year!
I love Screwtape Letters. It’s one of Lewis’ books that I can follow along with quite easily, whereas his theology books take me a long time to get through, since I have to read and reread lol Also, I just listened to a podcast today with an author named Tilly Dillehay. She has a new book out called My Dear Hemlock that was being compared to The Screwtape Letters, but from a woman’s perspective. I definitely want to check it out soon!
I never hear anyone mention “A Woman of Independent Means” by Elizabeth Hailey. Read it back in the late 90’s and still remember it being wonderful. Please check it out! All letters…
I enjoyed 84 Crossing. I think you’d enjoy the story and found friendship. It’s short so that’s a positive. It really has the epistolary feel. Dracula immediately came to my mind as it’s a fave for me. I’ve heard people like the Ella Minnow Pea. I was thinking it’d be challenging to read as the letters continue to fall. I like fun books like that though. Another epistolary I read in highschool Griffin and Sabine. I’m reading Little Women right now. I’m totally like Jo. Did you relate to either of the sisters?
I relate to Jo’s temperament so so much! Her feeling of frustration like she’s not accomplishing what she wants in life. But I also relate to Meg in some ways once she’s matured some! 😅
@ I looked up her personality type and last night and she was INFJ and that’s my type. I thought that was neat. I’m glad I finally got to read this book.
84 Charing Cross is one of my favorite books and the movie is pretty good too.
Daddy Long Legs is FANTASTIC! A spin-off or retelling of Daddy Long Legs that’s also terrific is Katherine Reay’s Dear Mr Knightley.

So agree about Frankenstein! I want to reread it! So many books to read, so little time.
Great recommendations! Looking forward to your thoughts on the book set in Denmark. 😊
My favourites are “84 Charing Cross Road” and “The Guernsey literary and the potato peel pie soc”
I completely forgot to include the Guernsey book in my TBR!! Definitely going to put it on hold at the library.
I'm definitely going to be participating! I'm thinking of reading Henrietta's War and Things We Didn't Say. The Visits of Elizabeth sounds very intriguing. I've never heard of it before. Possibly more too!
So glad!! So many options I wish I could read them all 😅 I think I’m going to start a few this month!

Loving these recommendations going into epistolary January 🫶🏻
I loved Divine Rivals!! I read The Screwtape Letters this year and it was so interesting.
I appreciate all of your recommendations as this readathon idea is new to me!

❤️
I love a great epistolary book! I hope to meet several of these prompts in January!
I've been stockpiling my recommendations, too! :D

I was only able to find a copy of Henrietta’s War on AbeBooks and it’s a little pricey but I think I’m going to get it, it sounds soooo good!!
@@miriamelizabethreads I found it on Audible, so I'm going to listen there. None of our library apps had it.

Oh I didn’t know there was a movie! Thanks!
Oooo maybe I’ll add that Rachel Fordham in January. I already filmed my January TBR and mentioned this readathon, but girl I may have to!
I just got a beautiful edition of Daddy Long Legs at a library sale so I’ll be reading that 😍
Oh that’s awesome!! 😍

84, Charing Cross Road and Daddy Long-Legs are definitely going to be read!!
Yours Truly Thomas, The Visits of Elizabeth, Evalina look interesting! I need to read The Screwtape Letters book too
I'm planning on Screwtape Letters. If my other books gave letters then it's just a bonus. 🎉
I really hope I’ll be able to get to it!

I love this video so much, Miriam! And you totally made me completely change up my January TBR so it's a good thing i hadn't filmed it yet. 😂😂
Oh and I had a hard time finding an epistolary romance as well, which is kind of strange. The one I settled on I'm a little unsure of but I have been wanting to try it, so we'll see.
Aahhh 🙈 hope we enjoy all we read!

Ok that makes me feel much less intimidated, thanks! 😅
Adding "Meet me at the Museum." 😊
If anyone is interested in YA try Paula Danziger PS Longer Letter Later and it's sequel Snail Mail No More.
Thanks for the recommendations!
I never hear anyone mention “A Woman of Independent Means” by Elizabeth Hailey. Read it back in the late 90’s and still remember it being wonderful.
Please check it out! All letters…
I just looked it up, it sounds fantastic!! Thanks!
