- The state of the Britain's armed forces has come under serious scrutiny after a series of embarrassing mishaps, raising concerns about whether they're in crisis.

China is not an aggresive nation. China does not invade other countries, China does not seek military conflicts with her neighbours and certainly not with far away lands such as Britain. Britain needs a military, especially naval, force to keep the country safe and not a force poised for invasions or sorting out distant preoblems.

I am astonished! We have not felt the full effect of Brexit yet and we want to pick a fight with China thousands of miles away. China and Europe do not have any conflicts of strategic or practical interests. On the contrary, they are complementary in economic and other fields. If Europeans think China is a threat, I think it is the message sent by the United States.
Europeans should have a rational self-understanding. Europe is a Europe for Europeans, rather than fighting for the interests of Americans. Just like the Russia-Ukraine war, it hurt Europe but benefited the United States. European funds and industries have been transferred to the United States, and Europe has imported American energy at high prices. America replaces large Russian gas stations exclusive to Europe.

The difference between the 1930s and Hitler and now is that in the 1930s the UK was a great power economically providing about 11% of world GDP. Now it is around 3%. I have always thought that the main reason for WW2 was the harsh and unfair conditions put on Germany after WW1, at the Treaty of Versailles.

Just look at the adverts to join the army ( I know they are only adverts), they don't really inspire confidence, and they are aimed at the wishy washy types who probably wouldn't make good soldiers anyway. But if you discourage the people you really need in order to encourage those who you don't, just to look PC, then it isn't going to end well. I think the biggest elephant in the room that no one gives any discussion to, is the large amount of people in the UK who might well become active enemies.
We have millions of people living here who have no allegiance to the UK, in fact openly despise our laws,customs and culture.

Military families in the UK depend on the NHS so having dental issues will be the same challenge as everyone else. The serving member will have access to Military Dentists and DRs. A lot of the housing stock is old and not well maintained and has similar issues to civilian market rental accommodation (mould etc). It is still heavily subsidised however this is also becoming more expensive and will be in line with the civilian sector soon enough. These issues coupled with non competitive pay are causing some to look elsewhere (certainly not leaving in droves). If the recruitment timeline was shortened the churn would be more sustainable.
@@markturner6755 not leaving in droves? The army was 113,000 strong and over manned in 2010, its about 75,000 now and undermanned too. The standards, unit cohesion and morale have all dropped since then as well.

I agree. I think people here still seem to think that we live in the land of freedom and democracy. I grew up in the 80s and 90s…that was real freedom. They have taken those freedoms one by one. We live in an authoritarian state now. I would lift a bar to defend here. There’s nothing left to defend.
