'We don't have time to care about British elections,' CCP spokesman says after hacking accusations

- ‘No-one has any bandwidth to care about the elections in Britain.’
Victor Gao, widely described as a spokesperson for the CCP, denies allegations that China launched 'malicious' cyber attacks on the UK.
Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden said China's "cumulative attempts to interfere with the United Kingdom's democracy have not succeeded".
He said there was an attempt to compromise the UK Electoral Commission between 2021 and 2022 and attacks against UK parliamentary accounts in a separate campaign in 2021.
Mr Dowden said calling out such behaviour was part of the UK's defence, with allies - including the US - set to issue similar statements to "hold China to account for the ongoing patterns of hostile activity targeting our collective democracies".
Andrew Marr also hears from Nigel Inkster, the former Director of Operations and Intelligence for Mi6.

Gao says it all. China is not competing with the UK at any level, meaning the UK is a total non-entity. Victor Gao knows that it is useless to try to influence British politicians because they will always just obey whatever the US command them to.
China may not see the UK as a competitor but it certainly views it as a rich seam of intellectual property to be mined. Plenty of clear examples of IP theft, from commercial to military, that should should convince even the most sceptical that the UK is of significant interest to China.
