You're right, the difference between the 150 and the 180 is not too big when you are cruising. The really relevant point is that it is 100% original. Love my 180 roadster every time I use it.
I've got a 180 Quattro Coupe, I think it's great. Drives really well, the ride on 16" wheels is supple and it still performs really well. I found when looking for mine, that the 150s and 180s do tend to be less played with and more genuine cars. Mine is completely stock, full history and in lovely condition.
Sounds like a brilliant car, they are incredibly underrated and i think your right usually un modified for the most part and often had quite an easy life :)
I own a 2004 150 coupe as a daily driver, and i love it. It’s completely stock and has 17” wheels. The big plus for me is that the 150 can be fueled with 95 which is about €0,20 cheaper per liter than 98 over here in the Netherlands. Really like your videos, keep it up!
That’s awesome! Yeah 17’s are the perfect wheels for a roadster, nice combination of shock absorbents and still look relative size wise. Appreciate the kind words about the channel means a lot
As far as a 150 coupe, they do make them. There was a 150 coupe that was for sale near where I live that I went to look at. I have a 180 and I think that it is plenty of fun. Turbo spools very quick, but it does feel like it lacks a bit of power sometimes. Mine is on coilovers and it drives really nice on the twisty roads. Perfect little weekend car for something that won't break the bank.
Owning a S3 8L which shares a lot with the TT 225, I've found your channel interesting to watch. We are now thinking about which car we should get for my wife and a TT 150 or 180 might be just the right choice with a good value for money. We also love the Lupo GTI.
Mines a 180, FWD Coupe. Has plenty of go, feels at home on twisty roads or as a daily. Sits on 17"s, find them quite comfortable, repairs are easier as I found out when changing the clutch. Quick spooling, fwd and lighter I would argue could be more fun than the 225 on smaller roads.
Thanks for that input, yes it’s certainly a lot more straight forward when coming to repairs as less to worry about haha. 17’s are great for comfort. 18’s offer a little better handling but less comfort and more scuttle shake
Now on my 4th TT currently I’m running a 190BVR coupe mapped to 216 bhp and 245ft/lb torque by Decimal Tenths in Newcastle It is seriously brisk and great fun to drive on country roads 17inch wheels definitely help the comfort on poor road surfaces
Awesome mate thanks for sharing that, yeah it’s wicked I’m looking forward to getting this on the dyno and see what’s left bhp wise and then treat it to a little more 😂
I have a 150 model roadster in red with cloth seats and super happy with it. The only real tweak I’ve done with mine is to pull the wind deflector fuse to disable it and will soon obtain an aftermarket manual deflector. My electric one is fully operational but I’ve seen reports of belt failure on these which is a hassle to obtain parts and fix. My last two roadsters were ND4 MX5 and Fiat 124 Spider - both had fixed (but detachable) wind deflectors and these were fine. Actually prefer the un-heated cloth seats too as they appear new even after 19 years which could not be said for the leather seats in my old VR6 TT. Mine is super basic but in great condition with less to go wrong - now I’m retired my aim is to drive and enjoy the car and not spend hours tinkering. Looking forward to a European road trip next year (France, Belgium and Western Germany). Enjoying your channel especially now you have an almost identical car to mine 😊
Thanks for messaging, I think the cloth seats are very underrated! That's a great way of looking at it, less to go wrong with a more basic spec but still has all the great mk1 stylings. That road trip sounds decent, i do love a road trip especially if it's with a group of decent folk. I have been driving it all week and enjoyed it both rain and shine although im going to need to treat the soft top as its got zero protection
Planning to go to Monschau or Cochem in Germany - both not too far from Nurburgring and also pass by Spa circuit just before leaving Belgium and entering Germany. The road from Durbuy to Monschau is superb - quiet, twisty and scenic. Did this in MX5 prior to lockdown and really memorable twisty road (I’m an ex-biker).
Never owned a 150, but I did have a Golf Mk4 GTi with a 150hp AGU and K03 Turbo setup.. nothing wrong with that engine at all, I'd have one all day everyday. I wouldnt want a convertible though so rules it out. I have a 225 Coupé and its lovely 😍
i mean in the tt world the 225 coupe is the best of all options but for those who wont chase numbers the 150 is plenty of car for sure and with a roadster you dont need to go silly speeds to enjoy it
Not fast but the top comes down! Best car I've ever owned for times when all you want to do is drive. My 2001 180 Roadster only leaves the garage during summer and autumn. As far as wheels are concerned, I got rid of the stock 17" 6 spoke and got some 17" 10 spokes off of a 2010 A4 and I love how it looks.
Best informative TT on YT. I'm looking forward to my 3rd TT MK1 Roadster, but the first 150 HP (before 225 and 180) I decided on the 150 because it is in an incredible condition, not to say new!! But 1500£?? Far from. 9500€ !!
I love my stage 1 mapped 150 fwd with full miltek and decat and air filter drilled and groved discs all round bilstins and lowering springs. Yes I blown my brains out on the cost doing it but drives mint and take it out on twisty roads on weekends 😊😊😊 ohh yes I got some grey outer and purple centre leather seats to make it stand out and 19 inch alloys and got a cup holder to haha
I owned a 1999 A4 1.8t 150 Quattro 5spd when it was new and it felt plenty quick, at least coming from a '98 Subaru Legacy with an automatic! I was lusting after a TT Roadster at that time, but two pesky small children made that a non-starter.
Ooo no! haha children and sports cars are a juggling act, will have to save them for later life when you are old enough to tick that midlife crisis box haha, my partner often jokes about what i would get when im in my late 40's early 50's as in her words i have terrible taste in cars now haha
Hey just some corrections. The 150 was available earlier, i personally have a 2001 with 150hp with the baseball interior so i dont have the facelift version. As you said there is no 150 coupe version. You cannot swap the exhaust for a 225, it wont fit because the spare tire is in the way. Mine is mapped to 200hp and feels plenty quick.
I love my 150, also bigger boot for those weekends away. Needs 18s imo. Finding harder to get in nice condition, I'm gonna sell mine as it just sits in my garage and deserves to be used. But will only sell for strong money, not 1500 banger money.
See i think the 17's are the dream on a roadster, the 18's give that scuttle shake a little more however the 18's do look far better to the eye haha Shame to not have it out and use it but selling it gives someone else the chance to put it to good use :)
Love my TT 150, just wanted a convertible for that roof down experience as I'd never owned one before. Bought it 4 years ago. it's coming up time to sell, but I really don't want to 😁😁😂😂
I have a 180 awp and it's definitely quick around town. But being in the US, you aren't finding anything cheaper than 6k. I would definitely have another one if I could get them at that price
Yeah i can imagine any mk1 TT is hard to come by for any reasonable price, plus you have a completely different road set up to us, some mega road trips over there im sure
It's a car, they're all built to stand outside. Clean the roof regularly and apply a roof protector when needed and it will last for years. Most soft tops fail through damage rather than erosion.
Like said below the canvas roof is about the only difference, a well kept one will last for many years, clean the roof drains and you’ll be fine. This one will be for sale in a couple months if your not in a rush
The Audi TT (except in more modern TTS or TTRS form) has never really meant to be a particularly fast car. It was always about style and the mark 1 is very much a stylish classic. I guess that the performance of this is akin to a whole host of classic cars including …. dare I say it ….. an Austin Healey 3 litre. Provided that they can keep up with modern traffic, all such cars can only be great fun. A standard Aston Martin DB5, albeit with the dreadful tyres of that period, had a similar 0 to 60 time as the TT mk1 150PS and I wouldn’t mind posing in that.
Your right mate, often I’m sure they just try a few different engines just to show what they can achieve. Like the w12 in a Passat I mean who needs that kinda displacement in a Passat of all cars haha
You're right, the difference between the 150 and the 180 is not too big when you are cruising. The really relevant point is that it is 100% original. Love my 180 roadster every time I use it.

100% mate, I loved taking it on a tt convoy from London to Brighton 😎
Love my roadster, especially when its such a nice day as today - just got back from a drive myself
Can’t fault you mate, makes a sunny cruise that bit nicer 😎

Thanks for letting me know that, I’m interested to see if a map can give it that little more that it needs or not.
I know that BSR do a stage 1 map for the 150 and 180 which I've heard is good. Having a bit of extra torque would really help.@@TheParrottBros

Can’t beat a small turbo dom love driving my 180 it’s better driver than my last v6 ,topman 👍
Thanks for the message mate, always nice to hear others experiences 👌🏻
Great comments. My 225 roadster is powerful, but I love my Golf Mk 4 1.8t GTI with the same turbo, it's much more fun around town.
Ooo the mk4 golf! love them, i always wanted one but never actually got round to getting one, ended up buying a mk1 tt 😅
