      Yes that would be a good idea. I am just nervous over the cat N status and how it would affect resale. I am not sure if I would keep it long term unless I can put a really low mile engine and the damage it sustained was minimal.

    If you can trailer it to track days then get a 2nd hand engine to swap in, strip the interior and sell to get some money back, if the skirts are good have them for your v6 and put the v6 ones on the black one and rattle can them black. If it still has a cat, remove and sell it/weigh it in and fit a decat. Have some fun with it and won't have to worry if you over cook it as its going home on a trailer anyway plus no need to get it mot otherwise break it for parts, there's still plenty of mk1s out there no point getting a cat n road worth again.

    Insurance categorisation is a topic that always elicits opinion, often with limited understanding beyond the label of “write off.”
    When a vehicle is classified as Category N (rather than the older C or D), it indicates relatively recent damage to a vehicle that is almost 25yrs old. However, the availability of parts play a crucial role in an insurance company’s ability to repair the vehicle. If parts are unavailable, the car may automatically be categorised. But there’s more to the story: a garage’s willingness to undertake repairs also factors in.
    Don't fail the car like the insurance company did based on what they typed into their calculator or perhaps because they couldn't get a grille as everything had gone honeycomb, take some time to establish if the car is worth saving on it's merits.
    I hope to see the car back on the road and sold for a fair some of money.

    • @andycharger
      @andycharger  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your comment. The issue is the stigma and loss of value from a Cat N car. I cant see it making serious money if I stuck an engine into it. I would probably make more money and help more people disassembling the car as a teaching aid and selling the parts. If only RUclips paid enough money to make this worthwhile putting it back on the road!
