Camping In 40 Year Old Vintage Canvas Tent
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 май 2024
- We acquired an (at least) 40 year-old tent and I decided to camp out in it to give it a try. Most of my camping is with modern tents, so this one was a bit different from what I'm used to. They are durable I can say that for sure, but also quite heavy haha. Anyways, crazy neighbor came along on this trip in the yard (he was helping with the house and joined in for the video)

"gonna start a small fire here"
- proceeds to light a Gondor warning beacon
It had to be done :)
@@campingwithsteve It was huge, LOl! xD
I wondered why I heard a horn blowing in the distance right after.
thats small? wtf does BIG look like! 😂😂😂
They’re playing dark souls. Never know when you need to save before a boss night camping!
“We’ll start a small fire” **throws a signal flare into a collapsed shed with gasoline**
Caleb HAHAHAHA!!!
Fax😂😂
This is something my wife would do....she's definitely the fire bug of the family.
I thought you were joking...
Never a truer word said 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Steve has it all: a Beautiful Wife, a Crazy Neighbor, and a house full of wasps.
@@lowco9575 I came here to write exactly that
Luckily its not "Beautiful Neighbor, Crazy Wife"
At the end of the day, if you have enough step 2's just about anybody could be beautiful wife. Keep that butane canister warm and don't forget your CO2 detector. Now you're camping with Steve.
@@lesterawalt3184 stop being gay.
@@mgaeeeee9150 best reply lmao 🤣
When your campfire's bigger than your tent you know you're camping with Steve!
Did anyone else spit their coffee out when they realized a 40 year old tent was only from 1980!? Why does 40 years ago, to me, feel like the 50’s!?
I hear you! But if you can imagine I spit out my wine! LOL
Was just telling my husband when he said 40 yo I was like man that’s old and then he said 1980... 😳 Sometimes I forget how old I am!
I always feel like that when someone talks about things that happened in the early 2000's. Seems like it was only a couple years ago.
No, but i did shit my pants.
Haha I had to breakout the calendar 📅 😅
Camping with Steve on a Monday?...... I'm not complaining.
Steve bud thanks for the video! Big fan!
I couldn’t be happier, my Monday left me requiring a step two!
I got’er waitin beside me.
I prefer camping from Sunday to Wednesday. Far less people and fr less traffic on the highways.
I prefer camping with no amenities. I do not want to see any other humans at all, except for the people in my group. I have also gone camping alone. In this case I still want to see no other people. This is the whole idea of "getting away from it all" and "roughing it" ;-)
Hi Steve,
Klepper is a German Brand. We used the same tent as Kids in our garden. Those tens are very old. Klepper now only produces folding boards. Greatings from Germany!
You and crazy neighbor really hit the lotto becoming friends and living next to each other it's a blessing!
@Greg W. If only we all could be so blessed!
Steve is the Bob Ross of camping videos, his calm soothing voice just draws you in.
Except Bob Ross didn’t have any step 2s, lol.
Couldn't agree more, and I say this next thing just because I think it's funny, so don't be mad
Simp :)
Bob Ross was once a Master Sergeant I’m the Air Force. I have a feeling he wasn’t always so calm east natured lol 😆
He's therapeutic
agreed
Steve, you are so lovely, referring to people, “beautiful wife” and “generous in-laws” :)
Well, crazy neighbor might have something to say, ,??
Perry Newton I think he likes that name!
And crazy neighbor lmaooo
... might a future nephew be referred to as "Little Bastard"? 😃😃😈
@@doneown503 Lol, he came up with that name himself, he has his own channel you know "crazy neighbour" spelled the canadian way
“We’ll start a lil fire”
As he burns up what looks to be a whole broken down shed lmaooo 😂😂😂
I’m an antique myself and I remember the 80s well! That tent is much earlier than the 80s! Guessing 60s and maybe earlier 70s vintage... probably a top of the line tent in its day.
they made lots of tents just like that on e in the early 1960s
I was thinking the same. More like 60's. It's adorable 😍
It’s nice to have something on RUclips that doesn’t involve politics, racial division, or COVID. Just living life, man. Yeah.
Couldnt agree more
So true! I am so glad i found this account! It got me back into the outdoors!
Yea besides ur comment reminding us
Mike Mainer Wait you’ve unsubscribed from Steve because of ads that RUclips is sending out? I don’t think Steve runs his own ad buys? You really want Steve to take time out of his day to find the URL to every political ad and manually block them from showing up? Get over yourself. Subscribe to the man, watch his content, learn how to block ads on your browser or network. It’s really not that hard.
Changes Needed Mind expanding on what you’re referring to?
That's a german Hauszelt from the 60's! ps: I found a catalogue form 1958 and this model is in it, so it may as well be a tent from the 50's ;)
Man, the smell of being in a canvas tent is such a wholesome smelling smell but it's so difficult to describe for some reason. If you know you know I guess.
Especially after a downpour.. ugh
Born and raised in Wyoming. My dad would set up our sheep herders tent. Nothing more therapeutic than the smell of canvas tents and a dirt road!
when he said it has a rubber floor - I hope that's not PVC. terrible toxic smell.
@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 the ohio smell
@@JackONeill497 It's very bizarre that pvc is now fairly common to be used as "tent floors" - and the tent "reviews" make no mention of this toxic smell. It's the exact opposite of communing with Nature to sleep on PVC...
This channel was recommended to me and I just love it. Just a regular dude being himself and not trying to be anything else.
I love the old newspaper. Still no answer on Who Polices The Police 40 years later...
Local Machine you could probably reprint that article today, only changing the dates and it would still be relevant. 40 year old newspaper reporting today’s issues, sadly.
im still trying to figure out ac/dc's "who made who" i mean... who made you!? yeeeahhh! (solo)
I thought that was interesting as well.
Ever heard of internal affairs? It's tough living with ignorance isn't it?
Indeed, after 40 years such an appropo headline.
I like driving around Edmonton thinking “I wonder if steve is camping in that thing over there”
Funny, I saw a guy setting up a tent near South Common today and I told my girlfriend, I wonder if that's Steve from RUclips lol
Steve lives in Edmonton
Probably.
Ron, I thought you lived in San Diego.
This is the most genuinely interesting channel I’ve seen . Love his videos
Man, you just describe a childhood fascination: “could I get away camping hidden in that woods?” Every group of trees I saw I wanted to explore and hide in.
“Don’t do anything Steve does”... that’s a tee shirt idea
Good idea
I've been thinking "I'm not homeless, I'm camping with Steve."
Steve: we're eating dinner a little bit late tonight

I love the comment section. It’s a comedy show lol
Hey Steve, any chance you could do a second test run using this tent in the coming winter? I'd love to see the fully assembled tent (with the fly) and since you said it was best suited for winter weather and temps, it would be cool to see you put it to the test.
Liking and commenting so that hopefully Steve or his sister sees this! I had the same thought!
@@punishedmatteson7108 Winter is almost over so hopefully Steve sees this comment and is able to find the tent and make a video about it before it gets too warm... Else we'll have to wait another 9 months

"My 3 favorite food groups are deep fried, wrapped in foil, and on a stick." Ha! Steve you're a legend.
So happy that this channel was randomly recommended to me. I dont even camp, but Ive watched 40+ videos while recovering from covid!
I've been a subscriber for at least a year, probably two. You never disappoint. Unfortunately the exchange rate between our countries is so bad that donating one beer to you equals an entire day's worth of labor for me. The best I can do is to like as many videos of yours that I can to influence the RUclips algorithm.
Edit: Apologies for spelling mistakes. I donated blood earlier today and beer is making me groggy quickly
Wife here: I just saw this comment today. Please, know that your support and well wishes are SO deeply appreciated; we honestly couldn't ask for more. And please never feel as though you need to donate as your kind words already means so much. We both actively try to check comments on a regular basis and its ones like these that keep the channel going. I'll make sure this one gets to Steve. Thank you for supporting him!
Your English is excellent my friend.
Great video Steve and Jess. Thanks and be well.
Can I say that Crazy Neighbor and how much he helps always makes me remember that they’re in Canada and he’s stereotypical in that he’s always helping out and being nice.
Headline on that paper was relevant then and now. Some things never change!
I'm really hoping to see a "camping in a blizzard" video in this tent on the acreage this winter :D
Me too
I hope the blizzard is what is keeping him from posting haha. I am dying already without my weekly dose of Steve!
Recently new sub to this channel, I want to see this as well. I have a sorta similar canvas tent that I've slept in down to 20F and it was pretty cold. I get cold pretty easily though
Don’t worry . . . . He'll DO IT!
A Klepper tent, very high quality. They originated folding kayaks which became wildly popular in Germany and Europe, the outdoor/Alpine movements of the 20's and 30's. Klepper tents were OEM supplier to VW Westfalia camper van kits for many years.
I have a 1972 FolBot(folding boat), Klepper's main competitor. My FolBot was built by two Korea vets and sailed across Lake Erie to Canada from Ohio 16 times, about 55 miles at night. They were both in their 60's in those days, really great guys. When the last one passed away in the late 90's, the family came to settle his estate and a friend of mine saw it sticking out of a dumpster. I grabbed it within seconds of the news.
FolBots were setup on the decks of small British submarines in WWII and proceeded to bomb a strategic bridge in France, most of the commandoes perished. (see "Cockleshell Heroes)
A regular "over-the-counter" consumer grade Italian seasoning, as compared to the black-market industrial grade of Italian seasoning

Thanks for the video, Steve. 🍺👍
I love the sound of a good tent zipper. Brings back lots of great camping memories.
I know everyone probably profits something different from Steve's channel, but what I get is the important reminder that you're never too old to take a playful approach to your life.
As adults, we don't play enough. When Steve's outdoors, there's this sense that he's indulging in simple, specifically _childlike_ enjoyment, & it's so valuable.

In the 50s and 60s, my family camped in an old army tent. There were six of us and most of our things were in the car. There was very little room in the tent for stuff other than the six sleeping bags. It was so fun to be out camping. Miss doing it.

Yes, you're absolutely right. Klepper is a German company from the Town of Rosenheim. They've been making folding kayaks and tents since 1905. If I'm correct this is a Klepper Sonnland.
This tent is most likely from the 50s or early 60s. The tents in the late 60s and 70s had a different color scheme (Orange/Blue). It's definitely not older than then 1950s, because Klepper used wooden pegs and rods till the 1940s.
Klepper stopped making tents like this in in 1975 But they still make formidable folding kayaks.
I’d kill for 65 degree weather here in the southern US. Keep hunkering down, Steve!

It's an off-year here for heat, usually it gets up in the 100's and back down to 60's here in the summer. I'm not complaining though!

Hi Steve, I learned last week the my local library has camping gear (tent, hammock, backpack, and lantern set) you can borrow. You should see if the Edmonton library has that and try it out. I love the old tent. My dad had an 8 person canvas Hillary so heavy I couldn’t lift the bag as a kid. Best times ever. Thanks for all the great videos. Cheers crazy neighbor too!
Wow that sounds pretty cool. Sounds like some forgotten equipment left in the archives from long ago.
I work in a public library...we loan out cake pans, garden tools and fishing rods. PLEASE do not tell my director about the camping gear idea. It is already difficult enough putting barcodes on bobbers.
Wait what I need to check that out
I can feel that tent from there. My grandfather had those from the 1960s. No one ever wanted to carry them. They were awesome in the cold hunting season.
