Absolutely Thank you. My 04 Monte decided to acted up in this fashion. It guess it misses me working on it 🤔. Bit going to take advantage of this tutorial and spray paint the plastic parts to a dark black.

I own a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix and had the drivers side wiper stop in up position. I followed this video and fixed my wiper. TY. Update: I turned my wipers on in freezing weather and both wipers got all floppy, now I need to re-fix both of them . UGHHH. At least I can find help on RUclips.

There are just a lot of sad people and it makes them feel better to try to bring people down to their level. That is my theory. We should really be feeling sorry for them.
They're the mechanics that would rather you come in and pay them for 4 hours worth of work.
Driving and thunderstorm comes and wipers stuck... Pulled over as I can't see the road... Must be mechanics who are upset who missed a chance on charging you 200-499.99 for the repair

I have found as of late the spring catch mechanism which is what connects with the metal tab to be sticking in the closed position. You then have 2 choises; 1, You can replace the drive. 2, you can lubricate the mechanism heavily & work the catch till it moves freely. NOTE at the minimum, turn off & remove the key from the ignition! If the wiper drive decides to turn on, you could easily loose a finger!
For that, you get a thumbs up.

Ingot2001 civic European model. I want to clean the water collect are below that. The wipers are stuck, took the bolts off but no motion what ever. Sprayed d40 on it but still no luck. Mine are different than what you showed. Do you know any tricks to loosen them?
What part is that tab a part of??? Its not a part of the transmission or the motor

I agree with everyone else you are a lifesaver. I have this problem with my Firebird and I have been wanting to fix it for a while now just never had the time. I just got done adding a new radiator, thermostat and just replaced the water pump and now I am thinking might as well take the time to fix the wipers. How long did that take you about an hour or a little less?
Yeah, I'd say under an hour. Maybe 20-30 minutes.

My 02 grand prix does this only on the intermittent setting.
mine were doing this tonight; and it's raining out.. pissed me off.. had to put it on high so it would keep going.. I'm afraid to tinker with things like this by myself; I don't really have the tools for it anyway.. I should just get it looked at... gonna cost me probably. ugh.

I’m not sure if this method works on all cars. I just know it should be the same for a majority of GM cars who shared the same platform as the Monte Carlo.

This video is very helpful. I have an '05 impala. My dilemma is I have my wipers epoxied on because the cone shaped parts with the teeth were all stripped out. I am going to attempt to just tweak the plastic piece and see what i can do to get it off of there. I may just have to cleanly cut it and (once again) epoxy it together lol. Anyone have any suggestions?
Yes, if it is that eaten up, meaning the splines are gone. You can use a little red loc-tite to secure it or if you are a little handy drill a hole in wiper close to shaft and add bolt and nut. I have done them both with great success. Good luck!

I was trying to do this today I had bent the tab a few years ago and thought that's all I had to do today but the little piece that catches the tab is missing. So before you start make sure that little piece is still there without it you can't bend the tab make it work. It had taken me an hour to realize what was missing.
Youc an see that little piece with all the covers on?!?
DMV failed me because my wiper blades wouldn’t go to down position but work fine when you turn them off they stay up

Sounds like you're having a different issue, and I'm not sure if the wiper motor would cause this problem. Could possibly be the wiring from the switch to the motor. Best thing to do is to have it looked at by a professional, unless you're able to diagnose the issue yourself. Good luck!

It turns on when ignition.Wipe 3 times than stops and up pisition or conus. And wont work when I turn switch. But if I turn ignition on first position it works and stop ...What is problem how to fix

No this is only on gm cars you have a different problem

This helped for a while but my wipers keep getting stuck upright should I just take it to a pro?
You need a new gear mechanism. When the metal tab easily bends back to miss the rotator again then it's time to replace the geared mechanism.
Did this but as soon as I cycle the wipers it bends the tab right back down. :(

Is this the same on most cars? Or is it by models?
As far as I know, this should be the same for the Chevy Impala, Pontiac Grand Prix, Buick Century, Buick Regal, and Oldsmobile Intrigue.
@@AbnormalGarage i have a 05 buick century. My wipers are currently stuck in the upright position. Many mechanics told me i need a new wiper motor and wiper transmission. Cost is about $300-$400. Thanks for this video...now i know what i was told is not tru.

how did it get bent in the first place?
It got bent from turning the windshield wipers on when the windshield was covered with snow. It’ll push the snow, but the amount of force from trying to push the heavy snow causes the tab to get bent, and then the wipers get stuck in the up position.

Sounds like the wiper manufacturers are cutting corners. That piece of metal for the transmission gets bent back should never happen.
