Torture Test Magazine is an e-magazine which documents, in fine detail, the stories of bikes subjected to a real-world reliability test known as "the torture test." In the magazine, the torture test is conducted on a bike until it mechanically fails so badly that it can no longer run. Why? Because bike reviews based on a few hours of test riding are not satisfying enough. We want to know exactly how reliable a bike is, and how it will eventually fail. Simply put, Torture Test Magazine brings you the world's most detailed reliability and cost of ownership reviews for motorcycles.

Try a hare and hound, when you travel across mountain ranches, almost NO dual track, perfect motorcycle stuff. My bikes Bultaco, CZ and finally a Yam. @DavidVanmeterDutch 3 года назад +1

@@noidontthinksolol maybe you should realize that all bikes have pros and cons, but just like op said. It is all about the rider not the bike. I highly doubt you have extensive experience on all brands and variants of bikes to make blanket statements like this. Pros in all aspects of racing use all brands of bikes and no bike dominates. But, everyone is fully allowed a contradictory opinion.

For the last 15 years or more the bike condition and setup matters more than having a brand new bike. My 2021 Ktm is not hugely better than my 2004 Honda was. The margin could easily be made up by being a little better rider.

I feel your pain with the gearing on the CRF. I have a 2006 CRF 250x. You know how you said 5th is to high for up hill straights. I fixed it on my bike by putting a low and mid range hot cam. CP high comp piston. And lost a few teeth on the rear! What a difference! For what your doing here it is just gold! You should try it!

I haven’t rode a dirt bike since I was like 14, and decided to buy my coworkers old 15 xcw 250, him and my boss got brand new xcw 250 and 300s. Went and rode in the desert a couple times with them and started the TSCEC (Texas state championship enduro circuit) had brake problems my first race and had to stop before the mountain range, then got 6th in a Grand Prix race, then 8th then 7th in the actual enduro races. Your video pretty much sums up my experience to a T, gotta remind myself verbally to look ahead, breath, get loose, squeeze the bike with your heels, and get blood to your hands somehow(haven’t figure that out yet) and most of all DONT CRASH! Smooth is fast.

Hot damn you're absolutely THRASHING that 250! Pretty darn entertaining to watch/listen to, great racing man!
Edit: Definitely an observation we share when racing is how crazy nice the bikes and gear are. I always feel like I have pretty decent gear and a good bike, I maintain it all well and definitely have pride of ownership in all of my stuff. That being said, whenever I show up to a bigger race (WHS, NHHA, etc) I always feel totally outclassed!

I read a " Bob Hannah's racing tips" in a magazine in 1984 or something(yes, I'm an old puke), his tip for arm pump and numb hands was " stand up, get your butt back some, and your upper torso in the attack position. Then grip the bike tight with your knees at the seat/tank junction, and relax your grip on the bars". Try it, it takes a while for it to become second nature, but it cured my numb hands. With the added benefit of increased stability....just put your hands on the bars to work the controls, steer witth uour knees. It works!

Dude you did amazing for your first desert race... you I’ll find that you just like everyone else have a certain progression of experiences that everyone has also gone through . with every race that passes you will find things get a little easier And a little more comfortable .. you recognized your skill and you know what you have to work on, all you need now is experience Nd as we all know that’s something you can’t buy or be told or find without going through it. Great job though. Impressed. Hare scrambles and euro scrambles are my favorite type of desert races.hare and hounds are more difficult and longer but equally fun. they just take more experience to be able to match the fun level..if that makes sense

Also I may be off a bit here, but think about joining the AMA as a novice winning a few novice races (I believe it only takes five) and at that point the AMA will bump you to intermediate. That's just my.02c. That' way you can gain the experience you need before you go racing with much more seasoned "racers". That's not to say you won't be fast enough, I'm sure you are, but the experience is a key factor.

Great video! Did you experience any head shake out there and if so how do you manage that (bike setup, riding technique, just ignore it, etc.)?

If that is novice class, I would be smoked for sure! Ridden quite a few events and did terrible on all of them but they always pushed me out of my comfort zone which is good.

awesome race and video, do you have a video about the modification you did to the bike? I just came off that 250x and jumped on a 2019Wr250f, if you get your hands on the WR with the 6speed gearbox plus your skills you'll smoke those guys

I have an older 2006 wr250f with steel frame and carb, but with a good bit of modifications. I have made it street legal geared it up a bit, and made it more comfortable, and better on the small stretches of pavement. With seat concepts seat,a rear rack and bag,Large tank, full pipe, carb mod, 2 sets of wheels ect. Compared to my true dual sport bikes from factory this bike will rip them all to pieces doing anything off road. My bike still looks new ,and I got it with the stock tires still on it so low hours. Those new wr250f's are just awesome though!! I do like that I can still kick with a dead battery though. I honestly do not need anymore than I get from mine it runs strong. Instead of one new killer bike I like to have a few lol. I grew up racing, so I needed this bike to scratch my aggressive fast riding itch and it does that. Some of the suspension on these low maintenance dual sports will kill you if you get too aggressive. I love all bikes and types of riding though.

How do you power the Speedometer? From the bike power or battery inside the unit?

Looking at this race from an east coast prospective, we have dirt roads for cars that are rougher than the trail that you are racing on. I didn't see a single tree, and it seemed like you were never lower than 4th gear. That whole races is just soooo foreign to anyone East of the Mississippi, but cool none the less. Good stuff.

I'd rather take my chances with tight trees and ruts rather than being tapped in 5th and cactus . I don't think I'd race that
