OMG! Thank you soooo much for this video! I've had this item for years & haven't been able to use it cuz I lost a gasket! Finally, I found one, but I was concerned about how loose the pressure valve was. I've been scouring the internet for days trying to find info on just this particular part! You are a Godsend! Now I can't wait to start using it! Thank you!
Bought one used and had no idea how to use, I thought the pressure valve was broke, but I feel the groove and it works!!! Thanks, fixing ham as I type!
Just like everyone has already said: thank you so much this was so helpful! A friend gave me one and I was worried I was doing something wrong and that the valve was broken. It worked flawlessly when I followed your directions however. I really appreciate the video.
just bought a pressure cooker and couldnt find any video on exactly how use the pressure valve and you did a great in deep explaination thank you so much. thumb up
Thanks for the video. The stream coming out after it was warned out made me a little concerned the first time I used it. Thanks to your video, I know it should do that and I’m comfortable using it again!
WOW thank goodness for you sharing this wonderful information I was so sadly that I could not understand the manual! Was about to retyitthe I looked up your video! Game changerhe for sure! Have a pot of beans on now plan to practice all day and share with friends and neighbors! Thank you for sharing! I put the captions on to watch repeatedly until I felt comfortable to use my 10 Quart xl on my own! I am now as ease! Looking forward to preparing many wonderful recipes!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR A GREAT "HOW TO" SET UP YOUR POWER PRESSURE COOKER XL!!!! I was REALLY FREAKED OUT about how loose & free that pressure valve knob was spinning. VERY WELL EXPLAINED ...quick & to the point. YES, it was NOT CLEAR at all in the start up guide / set up manual. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!
Thanks for this. I actually took back the first one I got in the mail due to the sloppy feeling of the pressure valve. The guy at bed, bath, and beyond looked at it and said it was broken too. If you shake the lid it even sounds like some plastic bouncing around inside. Got the new one in the mail today and the valve was the same so I figured I must be doing something wrong. Your video was very helpful.
Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. The markings on the valve rubbed off and I could not remember where the valve was to be positioned to begin and release.
thanks - the printing came off the valve, needed confirmation of the right setting for valve, you provided and also info on the steam prior to internal valve closing was helpful
Thank you for this video! You assuaged my concerns on that valve. I don't like "sloppy feeling" mechanisms, especially with a kitchen bomb (via pressure). I appreciate your time on this one!
Michelle Winters Did the lights spin or no? If yes, and they were still spinning, then you should feel the side of the pot and if it is warm that means it is heating up. It will take quite a while, but eventually there will be some steam that will come out of the top of the black handle. Once that steam comes out, the lid will lock a few seconds later, and your lights will come back on to the 10 minutes and start counting down.
Thank you. This is exactly what I needed to understand. I thought that spinning valve should be spring loaded and push down to get to where it needed to be. Thank you for your video.
So I did my test run, and when I turned the release valve, it did NOT set in the groove. It still spun until I got it lined up just right, but it never felt seated. Is that right?
I have the Power Pressure Cooker XL Pro and it has an entirely different set-up for locking the valve. It's just a slide switch. Slide one way and it locks the valve. Slide the other and it quick releases the steam and reduces the pressure. Have had for about a year and a half and I love it.
Thank you! I Just bought the 770 and as has been mentioned, the instructions don't seem to be very clear. I worked on setting mine up today and was getting concerned that things weren't working as expected as it took quite a while to pressurize. I got a good deal on it, but wouldn't be able to return it due to the store where I bought it closing. Looking forward to doing some ribs in it soon! Thanks!
I'm glad you found it helpful. I ran into the same issues/concerns and almost returned it. Then I figured it out and thought this video could help others. Glad it did for you. Enjoy your cooker!
I have this and absolutely love it. However the the valve and little rubber gasket fell out . It’s the one under the handle. I have no idea how to get it back in. Had any one here had this issue and had success putting back in? Please help or other my beloved pressure will find itself on the shelf at the local Goodwill.
I too was going to return it. When I unboxed it that little knob popped off and I wasn't sure if I had broken a piece off or what but I don't like that free spinning feeling either
Thank god for this video! Was about to return the unit cause I thought I got a defective one. I figured something as important as the pressure valve shouldn’t be that loose.
My mom has had this pressure cooker but the valve being loose (as intended) is not a normal feeling and a concern. I did a test run with just water and then releasing the valve water came out with the steam not sure of this is normal and I never felt like it sealed correctly. I have the instant Pot and the valve mechanism is way better/safer. Thanks for confirming pressure cooker valve is working as intended though
I don’t know if I’m not doing dangerously because I’m cooking with the steam going up through the lid. I put to the position like you show on the video, but it’s stuck it won’t move to lock at all. What’s going on?
Excellent. This is why I posted the video. I bought one, couldn't figure out why the valve spun like a roulette wheel, couldn't understand if the cooker was heating up or not, and so I took it back and exchanged it. I thought it was broken. The new one was exactly the same way. However, once I figured it out, I knew I couldn't be the only one with the confusion, so I did the video. I'm happy it helped you. Enjoy your cooker!
Thank you so much, I thought my pressure valve might be broken when I first took it out of the box. The manual is not clear and their RUclips channel has a different model with a different type of switch on the valve. THANK YOU!
I'm so glad I watched this video. Right when you started to talk about the steam coming out of the handle mine did just that. I would have crapped my pants if you hadn't given me a heads up 😂
Hi! I just found your video. I got a problem with the pressure cooker that last couple of days whenever I am turn on the power it’s doesn’t work . So I thought maybe the fuse is broken but I changed the fuse. Still the power doesn’t on the coolers. So I am confused is the pressure cooker completely broken or I can fixed it anyway. Can you give me any idea that I can try for. Thanks
just opened mines today and thought something was wrong since it was releasing steam from the hole on the handle and I turned it off cause was not sure if it was working properly! But this video really helped thanks for the details on startup!
Hello I got this and it worked fine for 2 days. Then all of a sudden the I get this loud beeping noise which supposedly means the unit is not pressurised. Try as I might - I cant get it back to work. Any ideas? I've tried realigning the valve, plugging, unplugging, taking the gasket off and back on.
Just got a second hand one of these, I’m used to the instant pot which is very quiet when operating… this is very noisy, almost like a stove top canner… constantly releasing steam and “jiggling”… is this normal??? It seems like this isn’t normal
1 question and 1 concern. Question : could you focus inside the handle I’m trying to figure how to put the valve it came out when I was trying to clean it. 2: if it’s a goldfish in the background I hope you give him a bigger tank :) but great video though.
Mine is on 27 mins trying to pressurize and still spinning lights and steam is coming out of the valve. It's locked on both handle and closed circle on valve. What am I doing wrong?
You are doing everything correct. Keep allowing the cooker to do its thing. Eventually the steam will stop coming out of the hole in the handle, and that is when the spinning lights will stop and the cooking time will start counting down. Reply back on if you were able to get it to work. I'd like to know.
You are very welcome. I knew I must not have been alone in being confused about the valve so I made the video. I'm happy you found it helpful and thank you for your kind comment.
No, when you're spinning the valve, you will feel it bump up a bit and then back down. Well, when it bumps up, leave it there. That is setting it to release the pressure/steam (careful that steam is hot, use a pair of tongs or something to spin the valve). All other points around the dial when you spin the valve is "locked" (when you feel the valve bump back down while spinning it).
Hi, I have had my XL for over a year and it has worked like a charm. I attempted to make bone broth, but the steam never stopped leaking slowly from the release valve. I stopped it, vented it completely, cleaned and replaced the valve, but the same thing happened. How do I know that pressure was maintained, or since it did not stop leaking. It was a constant insipid hiss.
I'm not fully sure, but maybe look at two things. 1). Is your plastic seal/ring on the inside of the lid placed incorrectly or damaged? 2) is that metal plate that connects to the under side of the lid (that the plastic ring goes around) attached to the lid incorrectly or upside down?
My pressure release valve is more than loose it lifts up and i don’t feel a groove it just lifts up on that release like it can’t catch or something please help
Hi Michele, lift it by the handles on the side not the handle on the lid. But it's been three months since this question so you have probably figured it out. :)
First, make sure you have the same model as the one in the video by looking at yours and comparing it to the one in the video. Once you have confirmed its it the same model, the hole in the handle is a pressure valve. when the heat builds up enough inside the cooker, a little bit of steam will come out of the hole and then the pressure will force the valve shut and no more steam will come out. The pressure valve is built into the lid/handle.
Thanks for the video. My problem is that it refused to open, I left it all night to cool down still no luck. Pls help. The meat on it is almost gone bad. Don't know what to do.
Here's an update thing you can try: A: Make sure all the pressure and steam has been completely released. Make sure the small Floating Valve is no longer in the UP position. It may be stuck in the UP position, simply tap the lid slightly to make it go back down. Then open the lid. If the lid is still stuck, unplugging the unit may help.
No, it is not. I would check to see that your plastic O-ring seal is correctly seated around the inside plate and that your lid is set/spun to the lock position.
Update on the new models! The older models had a button on top that said "cook time selector" The New models that have the red pressure indicator on top of the lid says instead of "cook time selector" now says "Saute" Which means you cannot use the big round button on front to change the cooking time. If you press it and put the lid on it will beep at you and flash "LID". You have to select what you want to cook and immediately press the minute button to reach the cooking time. I called customer service and got a person in the US that explained this. She said the "Saute" button on from is for searing the food and not jump to the cooking time. My new pressure cooker doesn't automatically seal up for pressure cooking so I have to jiggle the lid to make it quit letting steam out the vent hole on the lid handle.
Can't believe their instructions don't include this LOL (about how the pressure valve spins). Thank you for alleviating my concerns.
Most helpful video. I purchased mine from a thrift store with no manual. This has helped me a lot
OMG! Thank you soooo much for this video! I've had this item for years & haven't been able to use it cuz I lost a gasket! Same!
Thank you, this video was more informative than the ones on Power Pressure Cooker XLs site!
Thanks for this many years later. I thought I was going crazy staring at the spinning dashed on the interface.
HUGE help!!! I seriously thought mine was broken out of the box. Thank you for clarifying.

Thanks for the video. The stream coming out after it was warned out made me a little concerned the first time I used it. Thanks to your video, I know it should do that and I’m comfortable using it again!
Thank You for the video. I appreciate the clarity that the directions don't give.

Juliana, it pleases me so much that you found the video helpful. I really appreciate your feedback. Thank you.
Agreed! The instructions that come with the pressure cooker suck!
Thanks for this. I actually took back the first one I got in the mail due to the sloppy feeling of the pressure valve. The guy at bed, bath, and beyond looked at it and said it was broken too. Thank you so much!!! I was about to break mine thinking it was supposed to snap down. You're the real MVP!!
Thank you so much, that was very clear. the manual was driving me absolutely crazy I couldn't figure it out but you made it understandable.
Thank you for your comment. It pleases me that my video was helpful. Enjoy your new cooker!
Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. The markings on the valve rubbed off and I could not remember where the valve was to be positioned to begin and release.

Thank you for this video! You assuaged my concerns on that valve. I don't like "sloppy feeling" mechanisms, especially with a kitchen bomb (via pressure). I appreciate your time on this one!
It makes me happy that it was of some help. I was the exact same way with the valve and almost returned it. Thanks for your comment on the video.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I was thinking the valve was broken due to being as loose as it was. This was super helpful!
I'm very glad that you found it helpful. Thanks for your kind comment. Enjoy your cooker!
93BlueDevil so I went through this process and it beeped. I set the release valve and no steam came out. The display went off and wont come back on.

Thank you. This is exactly what I needed to understand. I thought that spinning valve should be spring loaded and push down to get to where it needed to be. Thank you for your video.
You're welcome. I'm glad you found it useful. Enjoy your cooker!
Ditto!

Thank you thank you! I thought the spinning vent was broken! Followed your directions!!

Finally!!! A demo of closing the lid 🙏
Omgoodness thank you so much!!! While I’m still scared to death to use it, I’m less so now. Thank you!!!
So I did my test run, and when I turned the release valve, it did NOT set in the groove. It still spun until I got it lined up just right, but it never felt seated. Is that right?
Thank you so much!! I was so worried we were doing it wrong. We restarted our PCXL 3 times I was so close ro throwing it out.
I have the Power Pressure Cooker XL Pro and it has an entirely different set-up for locking the valve. It's just a slide switch. Slide one way and it locks the valve. Slide the other and it quick releases the steam and reduces the pressure. Have had for about a year and a half and I love it.

Para ablandar carne que opción debo poner?

Excellent info noht given I manual. I got nervous when I saw steam coming out of handle. Thank you for clarification.
Thank you!!! This is the only video that helped me!!! I was about to return it as I wasn't sure it was working!!!
I'm glad you found it helpful. I ran into the same issues/concerns and almost returned it. Then I figured it out and thought this video could help others. Glad it did for you. Enjoy your cooker!
Thank you so much for this video. I just got mine and thought the valve was broke.
Thank you for these good instructions, they relieved my concerns. The manual is some what vague.
Awesome! You answered all of my questions - thanks for posting and taking the time to make this video...would love to see more :)
Glad that it was of help and answered your questions. Thank you for your comment. Enjoy your cooker!

Thank you. I was wondering why it was taking so long to build up pressure.
I don’t know if I’m not doing dangerously because I’m cooking with the steam going up through the lid. I put to the position like you show on the video, but it’s stuck it won’t move to lock at all. What’s going on?
This was exactly what I was looking for. Thx guys
thank you. I just reassured myself I did it right. it's in the middle of the initial set up now
Thanks for your comment, Mike. I'm happy the video was helpful. Enjoy the cooker!
Should it be loud? I got scared and unplugged it
Thank you !!! You saved me a trip to return it! Super helpful video!

Your instructional video was very simplified and to the point..! Thanks so much for sharing this.. great job 👍🤘
I appreciate your kind words. Glad you found it helpful.
Could you address how to set the time and pressure?
Thank you so much, I thought my pressure valve might be broken when I first took it out of the box. The manual is not clear and their RUclips channel has a different model with a different type of switch on the valve. THANK YOU!
I am happy that you found it useful and that it addressed up your concern. Enjoy your new kitchen toy!
I never had problems before with locking the lid. What am I doing wrong? The lid is crooked and won’t go into the lock position. Please help
This helped me a lot, I thought it was broken or something lol Thank you!
I'm so glad I watched this video. Right when you started to talk about the steam coming out of the handle mine did just that. I would have crapped my pants if you hadn't given me a heads up 😂
Does the floating valve in the handle have some kind of gasket?? Or is it free floating?
Thanks so much- exactly the information I needed. Thanks for taking the time to vid and post!

Does anyone know where to get a replacement pot for the 10qt? Could not find one on Amazon
Thank you. I appreciate the building time info.
just opened mines today and thought something was wrong since it was releasing steam from the hole on the handle and I turned it off cause was not sure if it was working properly! But this video really helped thanks for the details on startup!
Will turn on that's it
Mine won’t come to pressure. Spinning lights go on and on plz help
AWESOME this was EXACTLY what i needed... as you said, not very clear in the instructions... thank you thank you thank you!!!
You're very welcome, Karen. Thank you for your kind note. Enjoy your new toy!
I have the older version and can't get it to pressurize. Where can I find information about troubleshooting that?
Thank you, I thought I had done some thing wrong. have you got any more tip's on using pressure cooker (ie) cooking.
This was very helpful, 👍🏽thanks for sharing!!
Thanks mate. just need to know how to use the steaming plate.... its got me beat.
Life saver! Finally got this sucker cooking.
Just got a second hand one of these, I’m used to the instant pot which is very quiet when operating… this is very noisy, almost like a stove top canner… constantly releasing steam and “jiggling”… is this normal??? It seems like this isn’t normal
@UrbanHomesteadMomma, it sounds as if the pressure wasn't reached.
Thank you so.much for this video. I was so worried.
Omgoodness thank you so much for your easy instructions👍
Happy it helped you, Sarita!
Steem was coming out of the hole in handle that scared me. I thought I was closing it wrong. Thank you !
Very helpful , this cooker was given to me so I didn’t do the water but I cleaned the removable insert . Seems fine
That's great!
Thanks man, i was totally confused...YOU Rock~ Saved me a trip back to the store to.... :)
I'm happy it helped. Enjoy your cooker, Alfred!
Thank you so much for this video. I thought my valve was broken.
You are very welcome. I knew I must not have been alone in being confused about the valve so I made the video. I'm happy you found it helpful and thank you for your kind comment.
Why my lid won’t close and won’t go to lock position?
my valve is not marked with release and lock positions - should I get a new one?
No, when you're spinning the valve, you will feel it bump up a bit and then back down. Well, when it bumps up, leave it there. That is setting it to release the pressure/steam (careful that steam is hot, use a pair of tongs or something to spin the valve). All other points around the dial when you spin the valve is "locked" (when you feel the valve bump back down while spinning it).
Hi, I have had my XL for over a year and it has worked like a charm. I attempted to make bone broth, but the steam never stopped leaking slowly from the release valve. Perfectly done! That helped a lot! Thank you!!
Great to hear!
My pressure release valve is more than loose it lifts up and i don’t feel a groove it just lifts up on that release like it can’t catch or something please help
Yes, that's normal.
Can you tell me how I can properly lift or move pressure cooker xl....which handles??
Hi Michele, lift it by the handles on the side not the handle on the lid. But it's been three months since this question so you have probably figured it out. :)
Thank you so much for this video !!!
What is the little hole on the handle. Where do I get that pressure valve at?
First, make sure you have the same model as the one in the video by looking at yours and comparing it to the one in the video. Once you have confirmed its it the same model, the hole in the handle is a pressure valve. when the heat builds up enough inside the cooker, a little bit of steam will come out of the hole and then the pressure will force the valve shut and no more steam will come out. The pressure valve is built into the lid/handle.
Is that one held in with something or just free floating?
@@93BlueDevil
Thanks so much, I’ve been letting mine sit for a year cuz I thought it was broke
do you have to do this every time
Thanks for the detailed information 😊
The handle pressure does not close. Why?
Thanks for the video. My problem is that it refused to open, I left it all night to cool down still no luck. Pls help. The meat on it is almost gone bad. Don't know what to do.
I'm not sure what the issue might've been with your cooker. Sorry.
Here's an update thing you can try: A: Make sure all the pressure and steam has been completely released. Make sure the small Floating Valve is no longer in the UP position. It may be stuck in the UP position,
simply tap the lid slightly to make it go back down. Then open the lid. If the lid is still
stuck, unplugging the unit may help.
Very informative video, thanks for posting it really helped. Does one have to remove this valve to clean it? The manual is not very clear.
Thank you! This video was extremely helpful in answering questions I had as a first time user.
The poor fish in the background is sayin "PLEASE DON'T TURN THAT HOT POT ON RIGHT BY MY FISH TANK SIR!" LOL! 🙂
Great video straight to the point.
Thank you for this video! It helped so much!
Is it normal for some steam to be released through the seal? (Side of the lid)
No, it is not. I would check to see that your plastic O-ring seal is correctly seated around the inside plate and that your lid is set/spun to the lock position.
93BlueDevil turned out to be a defective unit. They replaced it; new one works like a dream.
Thanks for the input
I put it on the lock but it did not stay there it moved on its own
I'm still confused my pressure valve started releasing steam on it's on at 5-3 minutes
Update on the new models!
The older models had a button on top that said "cook time selector"
The New models that have the red pressure indicator on top of the lid says instead of "cook time selector" now says "Saute"
Which means you cannot use the big round button on front to change the cooking time.
Great video helped greatly
Glad to hear that it helped and you found it useful. Thank you for taking the time to provide your comment.
So helpful thank you!!!
Answered my question. Thank you!
I keep having the red pressure valve pop out when it is pressurizing.
Hellfire O722 seems about right. Hate these things
